This guy has had an interesting life. He doesn't get bogged down with minutia and negativity. He described his Manila motorcle adventure going through weather and food poisoning in a few sentences and a laugh. This is the guy to listen to about SE Asia! I trust his judgement.

Great interview with a well educated man. I was waiting however for him to talk about relationships or family, but didn’t hear any. Would’ve liked to have known more about those reasons for coming to Philippines.

Wow!! Signs in Japan saying no foreigners allowed.. I guess they are still mad about getting nuked.. it amazes me how friendly the Vietnamese and Cambodians are to Americans considering what we did to their countries.. never had a desire to go to Japan.. good interview and a very cool guy living his life to the fullest.. 👍 thanks 👍

Absolutely great interview Mark! Your guest is so interesting! Your channel has such good, interesting, entertaining content. I am a lawyer in NC who has a Filipina fiancee: due to my having had a young child here later in life, I’ll probably have to bring my fiancee here to North Carolina rather than move to the Philippines. I have enjoyed extensive trips to the Philippines to visit her in the Cebu and Mindanao areas. I follow a number of vlogs from the Philippines, and yours is definitely one of the most interesting, along with Paul old dog. I do hope this recent drama in Dumaguete resolves in your favor! My two cents as a full-time practicing atty for some 34 yrs: I would seek legal counsel there, for at least advice, to protect yourself legally. You’re a quality guy, your wife is lovely, and I wish you all the best with your new child and your life there in the Philippines! Keep up the good work in producing quality videos, rather than the sensational videos of so many vloggers there!

UK countries that were under their belts before are not the friendliest place at all. India is one of the most snobbish place on earth. The new generation are changing all that I suppose. Singapore is not friendly also, being under the British rule. The UK has that imperial attitude towards other countries.

Great interview as always Mark, I like the new spot. Our buddy Richard is very missed here in BGC. He is a great guy and a real “man’s man”. It’s a small world for sure, I interviewed with Mark to tell my story on my first time here in late 2022. Now I rent Richard’s condo in BGC, while he is now living and being interviewed by Mark in Dumaguete. I plan to be back down to Dumaguete in a few weeks, hopefully I can catch up with both of you soon.

Richard - There is a process to convert your FAA license to the CAAP (Philippine Regulatory Authority) - PPL is not quite as tedious as a Commercial conversion. At a minimum there will be a written exam for a PPL and tons of paperwork. Or, to just fly with your FAA license (without a conversion) for a set period of time you can pursue a "license validation" from the CAAP to fly an RP registered aircraft (vs an N registered FAA aircraft). That process may be just as time consuming knowing how SE Asian aviation authorities work...seems to depend on who you deal with rather than a specific process. Much of this administrative process must be handled in-person (or by a third-party representative whom you hire for the purpose...which is the best approach). Good luck getting back in the air!

What a life of travel, amazing. Your conversation didn't steer into much with relationships at home or abroad. As much as I'd like to live that life of adventure having good ties at home actually makes it difficult to travel that much. I think a month away twice during the shoulder seasons is my best bet. Still, that sound of freedom in traveling sounds so sweet. I hope one day one of my month stays is there in the Philippines.

The term Ivy League refers to a college sports league. Its eight members are all private, old, East Coast universities: Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, Princeton University, University of Pennsylvania, and Yale University. It's pretty much as simple as that.

The term "Ivy League" originally came from the athletic conference in which these schools competed, but it has grown to represent a group of elite, highly prestigious universities in the Northeastern United States. The name "Ivy League" is believed to have been coined in the 1930s by a sports writer who was referring to the old, ivy-covered buildings of these institutions, symbolizing both their age and esteem. The Ivy League includes eight schools: Brown University (Providence, Rhode Island) Columbia University (New York City, New York) Cornell University (Ithaca, New York) Dartmouth College (Hanover, New Hampshire) Harvard University (Cambridge, Massachusetts) University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) Princeton University (Princeton, New Jersey) Yale University (New Haven, Connecticut) These schools are known for their rigorous academics, significant history, and selective admissions process.
