I see "within reason" for the first tenet meaning that while you should act with compassion to all, if you are in danger or a bad circumstance then compassion sometimes just isn't the move to make.

I was raised by my secular mother and got my Catholic dad every other weekend. I suffered great religious turmoil growing up and made a lot of mistakes. Stumbling in the dark. I accepted the truth of Christ at around 20 and finally came around to Catholicism a few months ago at 25. I want better for my future children. It isn’t perfect, but I got here. I have in a large way the rosary to thank for my conversion. There is hope for your child. It may come with pain, but there is hope.

The conversation about empathy being tempered by rational thought when dealing with evil is the most pertinent thing I have heard in months. I had an abusive marriage and my empathy was always leveraged against my best interests. Truly selfish, unscrupulous people rely on manipulating others through guilt and empathy. For the sake of not caving to evil, sometimes you have to use detatched rationality to make choices

Donatist heresy held that if a priest was a hypocrite in terms of his faith or moral behavior, then the sacraments he performed would be invalid. the Church (and the great St. Augustine) rejected this premise. yes, the celebrant should be holy, but even if he is not, it is Christ who supplies the grace. so long as the form and matter are valid. you can ask a canon lawyer, but unfaithful priests don't invalidate sacraments. God works effective grace through the sacraments he has instituted but is not constrained by them....

Pray to Our Lady of the Rosary. Do not use the “Divine Mercy” Chaplet, as it promotes heresy and is from evil forces. Faustina talked to (a) Demon(s), not Jesus. Her diary is creepy and demonic. Antipope JP2 was instrumental in getting this demonic devotion in the mainstream. It should be avoided. It distracts from the true use of the Rosary with traditional prayers.

Excellent show. However, these"tenets are only advocated by one branch of Satanism, The Satanic Tempe. The "Church Of Satan' is much different, and deserves a separate critique.
@JoshSteed
@JoshSteed 2 жыл бұрын
The Satanic Temple are fundamentally a humanist pressure group. In my view, a true Christian should have no problem with either their ethos or their goals, as the Biblical Jesus clearly preached a message of unconditional love and acceptance. The Bible warns us of a wolf in sheep's clothing, which could be Evangelical Christianity - there is no mention of a sheep in wolf's clothing. Contrastingly, the doctrine of the Church of Satan promote a heavily individualistic and nihilistic philosophy, to the point where it seems to me to legitimise and encourage undiluted self-interest, unfettered pride and an exaggerated sense of self-importance, making that organisation a far more legitimate target for criticism from Christians and humanists alike. Ask yourself which side you are on in the eternal battle. Is it which holy name you evoke that determines whether your actions are good or evil? Or is whether or not your ethics and actions lead you to behave with compassion towards all sentient beings ? Its not Christ vs the World - the good Samaritan helped the passer-by, he didn't try to convert him. Its not theist vs atheist - thats a meaningless argument, until we can agree on what 'God' means. Its universal love/respect vs dogmatic hatred, which equates to self-righteousness vs tolerance, or helping others vs persecuting them, inclusive vs divided societies, peace vs war, Heaven on Earth for mankind vs Hell
@Skurian_krotesk
@Skurian_krotesk 2 жыл бұрын
I agree but i would add that this is not the complete picture. The temple of satan advocates science and the way this works is that our best understanding of the universe is always the most modern interpretation of our collection of knowledge. The satanic church is much older and therefore not as fitting for modern society as the temple of satan. Also i would argue it has alot less active members. So in conclusion yes they would certainly have to be receiving different judgements but the church of satan is more or less irrelevant because it is already falling into the background and fading away. I highly doubt that any of those people who where openminded enaugh to go to the satanic church would be too ignorant to see that the satanic temple is such a clear upgrade. The only real difference is that the church of satan still belives in some degree of supernatural and has a more dramatic approach of moral guidelines. Which you know... It is what it is.

@@kiryu-chan577 they lure people in by telling them how to live a life as a decent person as opposed to an egocentric and ignorant adult-child. Then as you catch the lure and you change yourself to be a better person you are being punished by living a great life with the only downside of not being able to harm other people anymore. The question i have is.. How exactly do you think you are losing or selling anything by learning and adapting? Why would you think that getting information will cause you to be less than before? If you want to belive that god created you, go on. But why would you let your god given brain rot away instead of using it by confronting yourself with opposing ideas. If you think those well designed tenets are horrible and false. Use the same type of analytical skills on the ten commandments please. They could use an update. Thats why those satanists came up with a new guideline to live by. We are a modern society, not a millenia old tribe of slave owners.

For a self-referential materialist, there's no logical way out of the loop. In order to overcome this evil, supernatural intervention must take place. That is why prayer and the sacraments are the best and most important way to reach these souls. I was gifted with a supernatural experience to overcome my wayward stroll toward secular humanism. Thank God for my family praying for me! Public education is only as good as we fight for it to be. When our government is run by people who don't think government can't work, but that it shouldn't work, that it should just protect the interests of the wealthy and well connected, then we get bad schools. That's directly in line with the libertarian, pro market, pro capitalist sentiments of the Satanic Temple

Both of them thought the tenets were fine and had to do serious mental work to prove to themselves that they were actually bad. Another conclusion is their first reaction was correct and that Satanism as religion really doesn't have anything to do with satan outside of iconography.

However, I missed things like the sense of community found in church, and the rituals. Then I discovered the Satanic Temple a few years ago, and after reading into it a lot and learning more about how religions are defined and why it is possible to have an atheistic religion, I signed up with a quickness. @@slimfrinky It seems to me that you still believe or else you would've picked one of the atheistic religions like Buddhism... no? My understanding of Satan is that he tempts us with the idea that we can do it alone... that we don't need God because we become godlike ourselves. He's just holding us down. Is that right? Or does that sound like Anton Levey? (he was an atheist as well). You are aware of the SJW Satanists? They also seem to feel an attraction to Christianity. Maybe they're sneaking a little Christianity into the experience and in ten years half of them will be born again Christians. Whenever there's a temptation, people typically rationalize it with themselves. You miss Christianity so you rationalize you reentry into it? The ceremonies are based on Christian ceremonies? Shouldn't Satanists reject the whole idea of church and do it alone... or at least have people worship them? It seems kind of non-Satanic to even worship Satan. I'm not sure if that's ever been the case. I know there were lots of claims of it. Do you know if there were real Satanists that worshipped Satan? You took the temptation but still need a feeling of meaning that can only be found in church.... doesn't that say something? Seeing that since you used to be Christian you can't help but be always referring to your old CHristian feelings... even digging them out.

I was a formal member of TST and had a brief stint of minor leadership in a chapter in the PNW. I left when the in-fighting and "purity"-spiraling began and accusations of sexism, racism, "transphobia" etc. caused a major split with the National TST leadership and the local Chapters. The leadership realized they couldn't just let anyone in, despite their supposed liberal/progressive/open-door political views, and they instituted their own distorted form of theological study, which also alienated chapters. By the grace of God, I was able to see that my hedonism--particularly fornication--was causing great distress and discord in my life. Once I stopped the sexual sins, more and more of God's grace and mercy, the light of truth and goodness, was revealed to me, until I found myself finishing my catechism classes I abandoned in my youth a few years ago, just before the "pandemic" hit. These people literally suffer from demonic oppression, perhaps some of them possession, and definitely generational demons from sexual sins (divorced parents, fornication, pornography, prostitution, etc). The only way they'll be saved is if they manage to stop fornicating/watching pornography/etc. and many of them won't be able to stop that until they stop the alcoholism and drug use. I pity them, and I thank God every morning I wake for the chance to atone for the evil I've done. Perhaps the theological study and aping Latin will impart some grace upon them to see how misguided and lost they are, but mostly they just serve as a way for everyone else to see that liberalism is Satanic and always has been.

I think the main reason these 7 tenets are worse in reality than they appear (because do contain some truth in each of them) is that they imply doing these 7 things without God in the picture. Sometimes he wants to save the unborn, sometimes in the bible, he said to rip the unborn out of the bellies of the women who didn't worship him, which makes me wonder why Christians are so against an ungodly woman having an abortion if that god specifically ordered that ungodly woman have their unborn ripped from their bellies. Sounds like the work of your lord to me, at least that was the way he used to do it. This brings us to the second point, your moral system is actually moral relativism. It seems our culture promotes the psychopathic and many act like psychopaths and are unaware of the growing guilt in their souls. I would like to learn more about your study in personality disorder- its seems to me that the DSM personality disorder characterizations are not nearly as elucidating as the kind of study you are undertaking, but that is of course as it strikes me on the surface.

@@civitatedei9224 I entirely agree that narcissism can be a learned perception as it seems to be in our culture - an entitlement added to ones self-centered ness, a tuning down of conscience if you will, perhaps being brought up that it is perfectly fine to put yourself first and be insulted by anyone who affronts you. But Psychopathic Personality Disorder is always preceded by childhood trauma and/or neglect (usually pretty severe) so that it interferes with attachment which is the basis of empathy and conscience.That element makes the defense much more impenetrable and conscience almost inaccessible. @@civitatedei9224 Yes of course. Psychopaths whether with just an individual, group, cult, or country must be in a dominant role or they won’t participate. There are many examples of psychopaths having a dominating influence over a partner or group and the partner or group (for whatever reason based upon their own traumatic wounding) will hurt others and even kill for the psychopath, where on their own they never would. Think David Koresh, Hitler, killer couples, gangs - often a shared ideology will mask the psychopaths true goal of power and control (played out in sadistic and/or sexual pleasure, murder, dominance, etc). What you’re saying I think is an ideology itself can become psychopathic if it seeks those same goals. I agree! May we say then that the psychopath in control is Satan? It seems evil in all its expressions has the same pattern: figure out the vulnerabilities of those you want to lure/control then become the answer to all their dreams and needs (Eg. utopian or romantic fantasy, you don’t feel victimized, you are loved or special), and subtlety gradually conform their will to yours until you possess them.

Love what Fulton Sheen said about the devil.. “Very few people believe in the devil these days, which suits the devil very well. He is always helping to circulate the news of his own death. The essence of God is existence, and He defines Himself as: 'I am Who am.' The essence of the devil is the lie, and he defines himself as: 'I am who am not.' Satan has very little trouble with those who do not believe in him; they are already on his side.” Without Christ we are powerless against this ancient enemy. We just don’t realise how miserable we are and how easily we fall..we need a Saviour. It’s sad we don’t even hear homilies on this topic nowadays - so many Catholics just don’t believe in the reality of the devil. This serves his purpose pretty well.😬

But the issue is he’s assuming that only Satanists are the ones who subject “within reason” to their subjective viewpoint. Everyone, even Christians, assign their subjective view to justified actions by saying for example“Well this is just what any good God-fearing Christian would do.” while they’re doing something at half the world might see as immoral or wrong. So he makes a good point but he’s only applying it to fit his argument, not unilaterally. Also the “within reason” is closer to a term of acceptance. You can be vegan and a Satanist so you don’t ever give your money to materials or food that came from an animal or you can be an omnivore, eating cheeseburgers but you can still hope the beef came from a harm free farm.

@@Metal_Is_The_Way Not exactly true. Christians might fail to do this, but the rightly ordered way to understand this is not according to each of our own subjective human viewpoints that we see as reason and will, but rather to behave according to objective standards. What "any God-fearing Christian" would do, hopefully, is to act in accord with God's will. When we act according to God's will, we will NEVER do anything immoral or wrong. The difference here appears to be this: the satanist, when she follows tenet 1 as a matter of religion, and behaving according to her own will does as St Thomas Aquinas says of Islam and Mohammed: "(Mohammed) seduced the people by promises of carnal pleasure to which the concupiscence of the flesh goads us. His teachings also contain precepts that were in conformity with his promises, and he gave free rein to carnal pleasure. In all this, as is not unexpected, he was obeyed by carnal men.” In other words, if you follow a religion that promotes indulgence in your own passions, in your desires, in your own will, that is exactly what you will do. Whereas when a rightly ordered Christian follows tenet 1 as a matter of religion, behaving according to the will of God, she struggles mightily but with grace will rise above the merely human will, she controls her worldly passions and overcomes her own materialistic desires. You do make a valid point though: it's not "only" satanists who do this. Materialists, Atheists, political Leftists all promote the same moral relativism based on human reason and acting according to human will.

'Hail Satan?' is an excellent documentary on this group. It's the prince of all ironies that the Satanic Temple strongly criticises organised religion and hierarchy, yet they experienced a schism of their own when one chapter went against the central organisation on a question of doctrine. The leader of the Satanic Temple had to rule on the dispute and ended up excommunicating the heretical chapter! The Satanic Temple and its purported tenets-secular humanism dressed up in edgy satanic trappings-appear to me as a wrongheaded and farcical imitation of our Holy Mother Church. From what I've seen, its members deeply long for the spiritual life and for religious order, hence their codification of beliefs into a canon, and their instantiation of rituals which attempt to 'invert' and 'corrupt' Christian rituals like the mass. But their modern pride prevents them from committing to God (or anything higher than Self), so they commit themselves to a very poor inverse imitation of Christianity, an imitation which asks nothing of them, which promises no salvation, which endorses hedonism, et cetera. The tenets of the Satanic Temple are always spoken with a certain irony, because its members are caught between two contradictory ideas: 'Yes,' they say, 'we believe in Satan, the ultimate rebel against authority, and we conduct obscene rituals in his name. And yes, we also believe it is ultimately all symbolic, and really we are just a secular charity/activist group.' I believe we should pray that these people will be led by the Holy Spirit away from sin, and will find redemption in Christ. Many of them evidently are blessed with gifts of the Spirit like intellect and a strong sense of justice and fairness, but they've given their gifts over to self-worship. I pray that God will turn their gifts back towards good and godly ends, and away from the service of the Deceiver. ☧

You honestly have no idea what you’re talking about and you’re obviously seeing this out of a biased lense that taints everything in your own religious bias. We aren’t against organized religion, we are against one form of religion being sanctioned by the state and put above all other religions in a way that their religious rules are implements on the rest of us. Unlike you, we have nothing against you or your religion as long as you don’t try to push your religion on the rest of us and we aren’t going to pray that you change just because we don’t agree with you. We’re for religious pluralism. Also, of course there’s going to be infighting within Satanism! We’re a group of highly individualistic people who value self governance and unlike your religion, we have no strict religious structures or rules and that allows it’s followers to make up their own rituals and practices. That doesn’t mesh well when trying to build large unified organizations with a consistent message when the membership numbers have exploded in size and the people in leadership are struggling with limited resources and lack of experience. We aren’t the Catholic Church sitting on a massive amount of wealth. And no we don’t believe in nor do we worship Satan. We don’t believe in any higher power or deity nor is it in any way connects to anything Christian besides the mere symbolism. Satanism is post Christian, more so than Mormonism. It is only loosely inspired by the fanfic of the mythology. I’m speaking as a Satanist who has been a life long atheist and comes from parents who have been life long atheists. This has nothing to do with Christianity or Catholicism. We don’t care about your dogma or what you consider sins, so please don’t try to speak for us like you understand what we’re coming from because you clearly don’t.

@@jojorumbles8749 I do, I'm just clarifying that, for the time being at least, you concede on this point; also, the fact that they call their belief system "the Satanic Temple," and then re-define Satan to be a figure that opposes all forms of tyranny, and advocates "freedom," emphasizes my point. Satan was high-ranking angel (most probably a Seraph) who believed himself to be better than God and did not want to have the Blessed Virgin Mary to be his Queen and thus, he rebelled against God and rejected His kingdom and now spends eternity away from Him. (Along with his co-religionists) God is the Supreme Being, (YHWH quite literally means "He Who Is Being") that basically means He is Perfection Himself, He is Perfect Power, Perfect Truth, and, most apropos to our discussion Perfect Moral Goodness, He is Moral Goodness Himself; that's key problem with the Seven Tenets, how do they justify themselves? They're clearly not justifying themselves from God, Whom they most probably do not define the way Catholic Theology defines Him, how do they justify themselves?

One overarching problem with the Satanic Tenets is that they rely on reason alone while denying God. Reason does have an important role in decision-making, but it’s one that should always be subordinated to God, especially related to God’s Law, Virtues of the Holy Spirit (wisdom, understanding, council, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord), and Faith in Jesus. The application of reason may help us better understand God’s Will, but it’s important to remember that Christian thinking is informed (NOT determined) by reason. Once you realize the fundamental flaw in the Tenets is the denial of God, it’s not hard to begin seeing their application in numerous areas of modern life (advertising, marketing, success strategies, education, law, medicine, movies, TV, online media, etc.). They can look deceptively appealing, such as, “The Power of Positive Thinking.” The purpose of denying God is to suggest that people don’t need him…that we can help ourselves just fine without him. Want to be successful? Think positively! No mention of relying on God, or asking for Divine assistance. Will this help you achieve success? I guess it depends whether the standard by which you measure or define success is purely materialistic or based on God. For those who are strong in their faith, trust in God is more important than positive thinking. You might say it doesn’t hurt for Christians to think positively, and you would be right. It’s not that thinking positively is wrong, but that the power positive thinking has to change your life for the better pales next to God’s power, which is not accessed through positive thinking but through faith (faith=belief + trust + love) and prayer. Next time you see some encouraging or wise sounding statement or motto, look for God in it. The number one giveaway that you’re looking at a cleverly disguised Satanic Tenet is the preeminence or elevation of humanity over God, if not the outright denial of God’s existence, power and love. No matter how good the motto sounds, such thinking is dangerous. How? “For what shall it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and suffer the loss of his soul?” Mark 8:36.
