I think you need a higher speed gear ratio. The fact you cruise at 30 with very little throttle means you should have enough power, but the engine is probably hitting valve float and just won't rev higher without internal mods.

Try a higher gear ratio, you’ll get it. You put a lower revving higher torque engine on it, you can’t rev the engine any higher so you’ll need to gear it up more. You also might want to sink the seat down a little as well so you have less wind resistance.

it either needs a higher gear ratio or gotta get the belt tighter the motor is at high rpm when you are at 50 mph more power wont change anything unless you have a higher gear ratio

I have a lot of experience with this engine family! you could totally get it to hit 70 if you could get it to rev higher or if you put the 9 tooth sprocket (I think it was a 9 tooth, but if I screwed up on the number of teeth, whatever the smallest sprocket was on the transaxle) back on the transaxle and put a centrifugal clutch like a snowmobile has on the bottom of the engine. In my experience, this has allowed for good low speed acceleration and good top end speed as well because the ratio can vary so much with that clutch setup. Hope this helps and I would love to see a part 3!

swap those cheap carbs out for a set of pwk flat slide carbs and get a set of jets to tune them. it was smoking black and breaking up in the higher rpms so it was too rich. those engines can easily make double the hp they are rated for but tend to throw the top connecting rod due to oil starvation. if that engine craps out get a briggs vanguard twin. they are pressure lubricated and put out more power. good luck!

some opposed twins were pressure lubed. if it has a oil filter, its probably pressure lubed

in my experience, if they are pressure lube, there shouldn't be any problem with the oiling to the top con rod. If you had these problems with your engine, this is good information for me as i build these engines for racing. Thanks for your tips!

instead of filters you should put a big cone air scoop force air in when going fast. lots of air in the tires to lower friction. maybe lower seat for less air drag. or like a little windshield to deflect air over you

Higher gear ratio a few internel mods in a simple turbo you may pass your goal put a bukcet seat and seat belt with racing steering wheel on it that would look sweet and add you a blue under glow light

Had a old 72 Craftsman Tractor with a modified 11hp briggs that would blow away the fastest mopeds on my street. Which the one had a top speed of 55+ 2 speed 50cc moped and the Craftsman would blow by the moped like it was standing still. The tractor used a actual 3 speed peerless transaxle with gear oil not grease and all shafts on needle or ball bearings. They shift like a car and last forever as long as you maintain it when using the 3" imput drive pulley. Power was never a problem it was stability At high speeds that really sucked!

try CVT and idealy put in the engine stronger valve springs , but first you need to adjust main jet on the carbs becouse engine is runing soo rich , you need to go leeaner , but remember that more power means les engine life 😀

You're still getting belt slippage because of the tall gear ratio in the transaxle. Try doubling up the pulley and belt system if you possibly can

Note you are running ag tires now......good for off road traction ,you also charged tire size this changes things ,I'd try using the old tires and see what happens or any other tires that will put more rubber to the ground

50 is fast for a scooter, but my nearby highway just got divided into a 4 lane split from a signal two lane... like an American interstate grade profile to there summer time limits. 85mph is smooth but the vast majority of vehicles are made for staying in town... like they brake axles all the time trying to go 85. 5500ftlb is a bit vlogger off a stop light

Get a peerless 820 for it go for a 5 inch on the engine and a 4 inch on the trans get get the roms reworks high speed gear set and use gear oil in the transmission, another rought you could take is a using a peerless 700 and a live axle, do a 5 to 5 pulley setup and you can change the sprocket on the axle to mess with gear ratio on another note if you do either one of the options remove the reverse chain, I've been beating on 820s for almost 10 years and haven't had the chain come apart but I can and has happened to others, the 700 is the same way but at a higher rate

Sounds like the belt is slipping at around 40 on up. Put a stiffer spring or manual tensioner on the belt (clutch) idler arm to make the drive belt hook up better.

v twins are built for low end power, most with an under-square ratio, so in theory the higher RPM you’re actually losing power. It’s the reason Harley Davidsons make 80hp at 4k and a sport bike will make 80hp at a higher rpm on identical displacement motors. Maybe it’s time to try a 450 dirt bike swap

@@MisterdionneYT yes! I have a triumph 3 cylinder engine and it’s the best engine engine for low end and high end. It’s a 765cc triple, makes 50 ft lbs of torque at the tire are 3,500rpm and never dips below that . Peak is at 9,750 so from 3k to 10k all torque, 12,000rom limiter, peaks at 120hp. So every 1k rpm is 10 horses. If you could find an older 675 motor and also it in one of these, that would be epic. But yea get a Yamaha it will probably last longer. Love your videos, me and my gpa are working on a bolens with a 350 VTWIN. Should be fun

Its that vari drive set up, you need to ditch it and run a straight belt with a clutch. Also having gears helps. Convert it into a 6 speed mst 206 transaxle out of a craftsman/murray. I hit 61 mph with an 8.25 on the front and 3.5 in the rear with 22" rear tires. If you can run even .5 - .75 bigger on the front, or smaller in the rear you could probably hit it.

Change the fuel filter and everything else that is in the engine that is not stock change it to be custom like fuel lines air filters you name it you have to change it and go twice as fast with the stock motor

i can tell you for sure its geared for way to low. From what iv'e been able to research and count gear ratio wise it's geared for at least 130mph that's just at 3600 rpm. i would put a 4 or 5 inch pulley on the engine it'll help significantly
