The "ZooLoo Mod" gets is name from a Swedish dude (with a freaking gorgeous mk3 should I add!!!) who was one of the first to do this and make it mainstream. You can find his original posts about it on SupraForums: www.supraforums.com/threads/h...
Other mentions of this mod show mixed / inconclusive results:
www.supramania.com/forum/threa...
www.supraforums.com/threads/s...
so I will let you know what differences (if any) that I see now that this is complete!!

Faye, much respect for you and Danny. As a veteran Race Engine Builder and Machinist, ask Danny if he is familiar with the term, " dry decking a block " ? This procedure will be much more beneficial for a high performance application especially if you are running high compression and or boost, or even just a larger bore diameter to prevent cylinder distortion. I may try and do a video myself on the procedure. You guys are EXCELLENT together, great job. SARGE BULLDOG.

Very nice! New hotness for EJ25 turbo Subaru engines is the cylinder 4 cooling mod. Basically uses an existing tapped hole and adds an outlet port for hot coolant. The other bank already uses the outlet for the turbo, but the driver's bank doesn't use the outlet. Pretty cool.

I miss our old Bridgeport. The things you could achieve with one of those old timers. Aluminium facing and crc = mirror finishes at the right speeds. Manifold facing and chamber mods, easy peasy. Plus, you should ask Danny how muany times hes spun a milling tool into one of those clamps. I'm guessing a few. You haven't lived until you've flung one of them across the workshop at high rpm.

I remember playing with blocks like those when I was a machinist. If it's not a customer's head you tighten it down good or use 4 clamps and use an end mill and a hand on each crank and pretend you're a CNC.

Oi Faye! You actually don't want it open to big. 2 max. 3 holes that are 5-6mm should do the trick. Because you see the return lines are right on the other side. Toyota closed that to avoid that the water just straight there and reduce cooling on all other cylinders. The rule of the flow with the lowest resistance will give you the hint. There are a few that done it this way and figured it out the hard way... NO BUENO! The thought about the ZooLoo (Zulu) mod is that the last cylinder is the problem child because it gets less cooling because of the blocked cooling passage. Like this opened up all cylinders will run hotter but the cylinder nr.6. My 7mgte expert recommends 2 5mm holes on this mod. not more. That is plenty cooling to avoid the head gasket blow on the cylinder and allows resistance to let the other cylinders to continue the cooling. Also when you open it up you get a weak area and some get cracked cylinder heads right there.

Toyota doesn't do things without a reason. Leaving the head water passage blocked off in the back was probably done to keep the EGR cooler and consequently the gases entering the intake manifold. If you're using block off plates for the EGR or have a JDM engine set up then it shouldn't make a negative performance difference.

Lets do a poll i vote for mid range torgue and power over top end i believe more time spent at max torgue gives the most acceleration where engines usually spend most of their time top end usually doesnt last long and your back climbing out out of the hole too get too top rpms which if your tuned for top end the lower end mid range suffers

So Faye, in the next episode will Danny be playing with his valuable marbles and accidentally loose a few LOL. On a more serious note, that was some good die grinding you did with the stubby drill bit, I know using carbide burrs on steel trying to clean up a multi drill slotted hole creation it can be really hard to blend it as that burr has a mind of its own, perhaps aluminum and the drill bit tool is easier to work with or it was purely your skilled hands after doing all that porting work.
@FayeHadley
@FayeHadley 4 жыл бұрын
Haha I do have some experience with porting, so that definitely contributed. Plus, this is a very low speed grinder, and I stopped frequently to spray with WD40. I cut a lot out but it took me a while - about a good solid 10 minutes almost (I filmed the entire thing, so that's an accurate number!) which in the industry is a crazy amount of time to spend on something so small and non-essential!!!
@charlesb4267
@charlesb4267 4 жыл бұрын
@@FayeHadley Wow, you really did go gingerly at that job but I can most definitely understand the slow methodical time spent vs doing a major oh oh where Danny faints from hearing your life ending scream across the shop LOL. If a person was doing a few of those one after another, either a manufactured steel guide clamped on or a CNC mill with program for the whole job so no drill set up would be required. But one offs are just not worth the time for those shops that have the fancy expensive equipment unless the customer really wants to pay for the privilege.

You make a good team; if you like the soul (with the energy and attitude of punk...) maybe you'll like to check out 'Tina Turner - Soul To Soul 1971 (Live)' but, if you preffer the Afro-Funk... maybe you'll like to check out 'Les Amazones de Guinee - Samba' and see for yourself what seven female cops can do when you give 'em instruments instead guns and batons in 1983. See you the friday night!

I actually only used the drill bit!! This isn't my shop, so I dont touch tools that arent given to me! I did think there would be another step - like perhaps a fiber grit to sand the inside, but Danny thought it was good the way it was.👍🏻

Never seen any proof (someone actually putting thermocouples on the head) showing this does anything positive, if anything I think it would allow more coolant to bypass the head via the return to the pump, note CO-2 in the TSRM. A bypass style heater valve without the bypass back to the pump maybe beneficial. Most of the 7M's issues are due to wrong coolant, poor tune (boosted stock ecu) and old age.
