Tony Giallonardo is founder of luxury menswear specialist OTTO in London's Mayfair. He tells Elite Traveler about the shopping experience there and eight items of clothing every man should have.
Tony Giallonardo is known as "the Curatore" for his ability to source the finest handcrafted clothes and put together a personalised wardrobe for clients. The OTTO shop in London's Mayfair reflects his vision.
"OTTO is the ultimate shopping experience for men. We wanted the customer to come in and feel like he's at home," he says. OTTO looks after a customer's needs. Any visit begins with a consultation where staff can get to know the man. They then prepare a wardrobe for him based on what they learn.
Giallonardo describes OTTO's style as young and sophisticated with the quality of its clothes stemming from the cut. He adds that there are eight items every man should have in his wardrobe. Watch the video to find out what they are.

This is a man that has dedicated a life and passion to create his own vision on how men's clothing should be, If you think he has no right to be a little more exclusive and have some self worth as a professional then i don't expect you to understand the mentality you need to have to someday be able to afford his clothes. Take pride in your talents and qualities because the people who are angry at society for not giving them a wealthy lifestyle on a silver platter are gonna be too busy criticizing those who do have it to realize they are wasting the days away..

All you people bitching about the price. have you ever gone shopping at Versace, Gucci, Dolce? Those places make his place look like the Goodwill store. You get what you pay for in life. Some people ca afford this, and buy without hesitation. If you can't afford it, do the best you can. Just remember a thin person can make almost any suit look good, so try and stay thin. get a black suit, grey, blue, brown if you can. But everyone needs a black one. Get a couple jackets in the same color's, and mix and match shirts, tie's, jeans, dress slacks etc.. with them. Make sure your suit fits you correctly, and that the shirt sleeves aren't to long, or short. Buy the best shoe's you can afford. The first thing people that know look at is your shoe's. Don't wear shite looking watches. Match your socks to your pants or shoes, not any other part of clothing on your body. Get a couple nice belts in different color's. Now go shop at discount outlets, and buy some designer clothing for a huge discount. Trust me when I say, you get what you pay for, but you can save on what you get, if you are smart!

I beg to differ. It's mostly about the brand. The fabrics are all cut in some cheap factory in China, India, Bangladesh or some other Asian country that use children labor. I've had suits that cost me $90 last longer than $1500 ones. The whole industry is just rotten, it's mostly in the brand and the way they present these brands. Yes, there are good and bad but I don't agree in the "you get what you pay for" concept. It's simply not so. Prize is not key factor in terms of quality - the production is. To make a good quality jacket or pant is not expensive and they sure as hell don't make them in high cost countries, so they can't use that old argument saying "oh, we use only the best fabric and it takes time to make them" bla bla. It does not take longer time to produce a cheap suite versus a very expensive one. You can figure that out yourself just be doing some research. Armani for instance is selling a BRAND. It's just like any other commercial product on the market. The Oakley glasses are made of cheap plastic most of them, and the glass is very affordable and mass produced BUT it's marketed as something more than a pair of sunglasses, and so are all the high fashion brands.
@gahloot
@gahloot 9 жыл бұрын
glasses are bought so cheap you would cry if you knew the real price. But hell so are car tire's. My friend brought in black market Versace into the US. and he said all he did was had the stuff make in Indonesia, and have the Italy tag sewn on in Italy! And yes u are probably right about suits etc..but most suits, shirts, ties that are cheap as you said won't use fine fabric's.

quick question..... how is an average 20 year old male on a £12000 a year wage and who owns his own flat for £600 a month plus electricity and water bills and internet and the occasional "out on the town" with friends supposed to afford any of this stuff?

Grey or Navy suit before black. These are your go to's right here for your daily wear/ occasion suits. Black is for funerals or very formal events (a black suit is appropriate at a black tie affair if for whatever reason you can't get a tux).

Would love to shop here, this man knows his clothes. Honestly I'd rather buy clothes of quality rather than label. Gucci, D&G, Versace, LV and the other aforementioned brands are mass produced and sold at absorbent prices because of brand recognition/position. Not that they are crap but to me just nothing special. I'd rather own something of quality that no one has heard of than a brand everyone knows shouted out by rappers. (Just my 2 cents.) That being said only thing wrong with this video is that the "8" wardrobe must haves are really just one outfit, but except for the jeans no other items are versatile, and the outfit ends up being one dimensional. Let's be honest how many outfits can you make out of a cashmere sport jacket or a pair of handmade brown shoes? For NECESSITY items I'd go more basic than this. The key is versatility. But then again he is selling to a different demographic.
@MistaKasko
@MistaKasko 9 жыл бұрын
Would you not say that designer clothes have connotations with quality? Sure they may not be THE best but the type of fabric used is usually high quality and the craftsmanship is bespoke. In my opinion those designers you mentioned only get to a recognised position because of the quality they provide - who knows, in 20 years we might see Otto become an international fashion house producing thousands of items a year! Not having a go at you, genuinely want to know your opinion.
@dang8961
@dang8961 9 жыл бұрын
Well I'll be perfectly honest, I have no designer clothing or accesories (except for a Ferragamo wallet which was given to me as a gift.) And that I must admit, I love. I cannot speak for the quality of these companies beyond what I've just been able to observe on the shelves of department stores and boutiques. So while calling them mass produced and sold at high markups might be a bit of a brazen statement, I'd bet there's at least SOME truth there. Actually, what I find off putting with designer brands is over-hyped marketing, and frequent use of logos. (Look at anything LV or Hermes). I'd just prefer a clean, quality product. I have nothing against shelling out the extra money for something so long as I am paying for its quality, rather than its marketing. Just my opinion, I have no problem with what anyone decides to wear.

The store is in Mayfair - I'm not an expert on London, but I've paid a little Monopoly, and I'm not surprised that his clothes cost an arm and a leg. For the people who routinely drag out the plastic in stores like his, I doubt thats an issue, but I didnt see anything particularly startling in his recommendations. When he starts insisting on *a cravat, cufflinks and a snuff box*, I'll side with some of the haters - till then, surely Otto has the right to charge whatever he feels his customers will pay.

That platitude makes no sense at all. If you are trying to make the "best of the person you are" than why should that guy have to wear a tie? I see everywhere almost every other man wears Rolex daytona wristwatch... that watch costs 20K €... ok second hand around 15K€... who could dedicate such a huge amount of money just to buy a wristwatch??.. I saw another sales guy wearing Rolex submariner... Are they all so rich, or they just buy 300 € Rolex replica...???

Otto's prices are ridiculously high. I'd never bought any of this, no matter how I'm rich. I mean, 300 for jeans, 3000-4000 for jackets, 1000-2000 for shoes, come on. It is ridiculous.

- the "dumb ass" was texting faster as the messenger box completed ... we count together: (1st) a jeans (2nd) a cashmere sport jackett (3rd) handmade shirt, (4th&5th) shoes (you wear it together but there are 2 shoes / I hope for you as well) (6th) + a belt (7th) a suit (7th & 8th single item) ...suit is a pant + 1 jackett = 8 Items because a suit consists of 2 items you can change and switch. Now let's see what we have to count: 1+1+1+2+1+2 = *8* / 8 items , the base of your wardrobe ... dumb ass ^^ one plus one equals two / and one of us is a dumbass , also true

I don't think I'd entirely agree with his eight items. Seems a little too modern to me. Suppose jeans are good if you plan on doing some kind of practical exercise or chore/work.
