I want those rims for mine. The under bead air compressor wouldn't be a bad idea but I won't lose my spare tire for it. 1 zinc does nor stop galvanic corrosion, it makes it worse 2 mounting the switch and gauge under the bumper will rust it away and corrode the contacts in the switch 3 that bumper is really cool if you dont have chrome, nothing bad to say about that :) 4 why did you opt for not putting a mat over the front hump? and no rear mats? This seems like a huge oversight. I really love the idea of the onnboard air, but I never see anyone address the 20 ton gorilla in the room. That is that mounting the pump and tank under the vehicle will lead to premature failure from rust and corrosion. I never see any interesting ideas on how to protect it.
@StuartBreland6 жыл бұрын
Maybe use bed liner on the air tank. For the compressor I'm not sure if that would be such a good idea.
@americantrucks6 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry but you are simply incorrect about your statement towards zinc worsening galvanic corrosion. While not perfect (aluminum to aluminum) Zinc and Al are extremely close on the galvanic table while the 'Anodic Index' falls under .25V which is acceptable in outdoor/wet/salty environments. And in regards to your statement about the on board air, as stated in the video you can mount the system anywhere you see fit, we just selected the spare tire area for the sake of the video. -Justin

electrohacker Zinc coated screws are better than stainless screws in joining aluminum. However, your only going to have a galvanic reaction if the materials are touching and there is moisture present. Using bolts with Teflon washers or sealing the connection from moisture might help... but welding the aluminum directly is the only way to eliminate the problem.
@jakejohanson65626 жыл бұрын
Glad you took off those 90s style side steps.
@patmat.5 жыл бұрын
The hitch is what I like best. I wouldn't put pneumatic equipment in the dirtiest least accessible space, nor get rid on my spare tire. Also the weak fixed aluminium frame gets in the way when climbing on the bed. Has to be better options. For the fixation great point about Galvanic corrosion but use stainless steel bolts (of same strenght) with insulated washers, not zinc plated self-drilling screws !
@NordicViking886 жыл бұрын
I WOULD SAY A BED LINER WOULD BE A MUST HAVE FOR A UTILITY TRUCK OR ANY TRUCK FOR THAT MATTER TO PROTECT AGAINST DAMAGE. Ford doesn't pay attention to it. For YEARS they were using uncoated bolts to hang up aluminum exhaust shields, and then the shield ends up with huge holes where the bolts sat and would fall off or rattle around. Then you'd have to use huge fender washers to try to keep the thing held up.

Good video. However, moving the full side step back a foot would have likely provided enough boot room so the (very cool) Amp side step was unnecessary. I like the compressor, but how safe is compressed air in a collision? BOOM?! Also, no inside blueprint/gun rack? No outside locking tool box(es)? No cold air intake mod, etc. If you ever have done commercial or residential construction, you understand the value of these suggestions.
