I was born in 1968, so I got to live out my teenage years and early 20's in the 80's. It was just a decade that will never be captured again. The nation was in harmony and the world was our playground.

@@kiks399 I think it’s because we were lucky to have the 80’s as our backbone, then have the 90’s tech to play with. Tech in the 90 was just right. Not too much, not too little. We had Playstation, but we still rode our bikes and broke into “haunted” houses. It was just a magical time to be a kid. Born 1985.

My dad was a teenager in the 80s. He always tells me stories about the decade and he's always involving me around it with movies, music, ext. So when I saw this on National Geographic, I recorded it for my Dad and I to watch together. Let me tell ya', I had never seen my dad so nostalgic when we watched this. He said it brought back so many memories. I now have this huge feeling of respect for that decade thanks to my dad and National Geographic. This decade is truly amazing!

I am Russian and I like this video. This is the America that defeated the USSR and thanks to which Russians now live freely. This is the America on whose culture many people in modern Russia grew up. This is the America in which a Russian would like to live. It is very sad that modern America itself is turning into the USSR. Americans, don't let this happen! God bless USA! From Russia with Love.

What are you saying ? Collapse of the USSR was the greatest catastrophe in Russian history. Did you know how much humiliations Russia faced in the 1990s ? Russia was humiliated by the US and was treated as a vassal. NATO expansion and interference in Russian elections were also unacceptable. Russia’s population declined, millions were pushed into poverty while the oligarchs became insanely wealthy. A system which continues to this day was established after the collapse of the USSR.

@@GenocideWesterners You, from abroad, probably know me better than a Russian person. The greatest catastrophe in the history of Russia was the collapse of the Russian Empire and the October Revolution. The communists destroyed millions of Russian people, deported peoples, and I am glad that this damned regime fell. Sit and rejoice that you did not have the same in the United States and Europe as in Russia. My people were almost completely destroyed by the communists and the Soviet regime. From 5 million before the revolution, the number of my people was reduced to 50 thousand. Come on, tell me now about the delights of the Soviet regime, storyteller.

Take a rollercoaster ride through the decade that made us! The ‘80s is not about nostalgia; it is about a decade of people, decisions and inventions that changed our future, told from the perspective of unknowing history makers who lived these iconic moments. It was 10 years of nonstop glamour, unchecked excess, ruthless ambition and explosive technological innovation that combined to produce the historic changes and global events that made us who and what we are today..And unchecked is where we are today and are now engaged with the ISIS middle east crap that will eventually infiltrate our own US culture if we let this go UNCHECKED!!!

When i think of when i lived in the 80s (i was born in 1978, i like to call myself "All American, full bred 80s kid") the first things that come to mind based on my experiences are these (no specific order) 1. Arcades, Atari/Nintendo: Man, do i miss couch co-op game play 2. Smurfs, Fraggle Rock, Transformers, Voltron, Gi Joe, Star Wars, TMNT, Sesame St., (the cartoon/movie/toy thing could go on forever so we'll just stop there) Saturday morning cartoons with a tray on the living floor eating Count Chocula cereal & watching cartoons for hours 3. Skateboarding & BMX...i mean...the jumps we would build (yes, i said build) were so ridiculous and unsafe is was nuts...but...we survived it. Rode all over the damn neighborhood & were yelled at by baby boomers constantly for riding through their yards. No cell phones...we were told what time to be back and if we werent back at that time...well...youre screwed for the next month. This taught us to respect authority & what a cost/reward system meant. 4. MTV....i dont need to say anymore there 5. HBO.....same thing...speaks for itself (me being the younger child, the amount of times my big bro would say "hit the box button for me!" was uncanny. Only an 80s kid knows what the box button is) 6. Board games: Good Heavens......Checkers, Yahtzee, Battleship, Fireball Island, Crossfire, Clue, Trivial Pursuit, Mouse Trap....this list will also never stop..... 7. Neon lights, loud clothes, baggy clothes, the weirdest sunglasses you could possibly find, freakin colors everywhere on everything. Nothing had less than 10 colors to it...NOTHING! dudes dressed as chicks and banging the hottest chicks ever, women were tomboys and nobody questioned it, Islamic Terror only existed in Indiana Jones movies.....Time Travel WAS possible you just couldn't get your hands on Plutonium, Renting a movie from the local movie store was a night out with your family...everything had charm!!! EVERYTHING!! Ugh, man....so anyways...yeah....God i miss the 80s.

Being an 80's kid I also think of the time families spent together, the respect we gave to any grown up, all the miles I put on my old huffy, the ridiculous Halloween costumes and every house gave out candy, decapitating myself on the 10 mile long phone cord stretched throughout the house, leaving the couch to control the tv, shooting out the street light in front of my house with my bb gun so I could stay out later (that backfired lol), riding in the back of a truck everywhere, shoveling snow for people in the neighborhood for some money to buy candy and sodas (where I come from we call it pop), little festivals set up all over during the summer, I haven't seen it for years but my favorite cartoon was the real Ghostbusters, ET cereal, the list goes on and on. Good times that went by so fast.

It's like we've been at a stand still since 9/11 or so. Look at 1900's from decade to decade and how drastically music, style, and culture changed. Not so much now since 2000.-ish. Lack of originality, ideas, and fear of being different.

@@bcnicholas123 I guess to a Generation Z fellow like me, the 2000s seemed pretty tame compared to the absolutely insane, out of control politicization, cancel culture shitshow that was the 2010s. When I see stuff on the 80s, I'm almost like "HUH? THIS was America? It feels like another planet!" People getting along okay, respectful disagreement on politics before then moving on to other discussion topics, no one losing their job because of their beliefs, genuine creativity, people actually wanting to help each other not destroy them, WHERE THE BLEEP DID WE GO WRONG?! I feel like I'm in a lunatic asylum today.

Fourz Ell people were more respectful back then.you couldn't disrespect your parents. school wasn't as bad,and I made alot of friends. we didn't come out our mouths in a bad way like saying the n word or how young people these days use a lot of slang such as lol lmbo and stuff to communicate. we didn't need social media to talk to anyone which I think is Sad because back then you played and socialize with people in your outdoor neighborhood playing hopscotch, riding bikes pogo sticks and scooters with friends. I used to also go to party's almost every month.because back then we used to have this thing called house party's were you can play games, dance eat lots of snacks and have fun !!!. music videos during that time that was popular were Michael Jackson thriller,Billie Jean and beat it , Madonna's like a virgin and material girl was popular Olivia Johnson's physical etc. and we also had lost of bands and groups at that time such as the clash, guns and roses, pixies and so many more that you should look up and listen to. prince was also one of my favorite artist.pop music like eye of a tiger came out and flash dance were great songs that I can name.television was way better and didn't have the innaporiate mess that's on television today. I used to watch threes a company after school, the facts of life,.the Cosby show family ties, the A-team,happy days, who's the boss, growing pains saved by the bell, different strokes and boy in the 90's senified was popular, friends, the Simpson's ,Martin, the fresh Prince of bel-air,full house,Dawson's creek, New York undercover, the X-Files.on Saturday morning in the 80's we had so many Saturday morning cartoon's and great cereal and commercial's . I used to get up in the morning and watch abc nbc and cbs cartoon's like super friends,Tom and Jerry, mighty mouse, bugs bunny and the road runner show.scooby and scrappy doo,Godzilla and dynomutt,Pacman, the little rascals,Dragon's lair, the super Mario bros. super show ,the real ghosts busters, super man,Alvin and the chipmunk,Beatle juice captain n the game master,Popeye and olive,Garfield and friends, punky brewster etc.and that time it would be so hard for you to do your homework on Saturday.McDonald's chicken MC nuggets were the bomb when I first had them but they just don't taste the same like how they used to. McDonald's and burger king had play houses and games for kids after they were done eating.the video games we had at the time were Atari intelvision ,Commodore,Mr. Game & watch ,Nintendo Entertainment System, game boy.Sega genesis and the master system games I still have today have today.but arcades boy were they popular and kids all the time were trying to skip school to go to them. they call it the golden age of games because Pacman camed in at the time, space invaders, donkey Kong, q-Bert,pole position, dig dug, tempest,Tetris,Frogger, defender,Ms. Pac Man ,double Dragon, bubble bobble,Rally-X,Galaga, baby Pacman and many other's.but those are the main games I were playing at the arcade. and they used to give you so many coins for you to play them.

I know right ? You also got the vivid neon color, the AMAZING 80's big hair fashion, the LOVELY BELLY BUTTON REVEALING SHIRTS etc. This combined with amazing music, more down to earth normal mentality and conception and some good old fashion 80's full of energy lives made it AN UNBELIVEABLE GREAT DECADE TO GROW UP IN. I'm born in 1990,in Romania, and just like other central and eastern Europeaun Countries, all this madness of the 80's came into force in the 90's ... and boy life was good. The money still camed till 2003-2004 and combined with everything above, made a superb life. I'm only 24 now,but i feel like i'm retired FGS.It seems like all this happened 100 years ago. Boy i would lock the world into the 1980-1990's period :D P.S. Not to mention the good old video camers, and the semi-colored image, wich added to the amazing live and feeling

I was born in 1997, but I live in Great Britain, on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean to all those Americans commenting on this Video. I'm glad that I was old enough that I Learnt to read and write before I learnt to type. Before I started High School in 2009, mobile phones were non-existent amongst Primary school kids and High School teenagers who had mobile phones had Nokia bricks and BlackBerrys. Most people still used Mobile Phones for simply phoning people, texting people and quickly checking the time. No What's App, fewer mobile games and no Instagram back then. It was the invention of the iPhone by Steve Jobs in 2007 that started the touchscreen Smartphone revolution. In my first 4 years in high school, I noticed touchscreen Smartphones becoming more and more commonplace. Nowadays I have seen toddlers and little kids younger than 6, walking around with iPads and most kids ages 12 have Smartphones now. I was actually a bit of late starter when it came to getting my first Mobile phone. I only got my first Mobile phone in 2012, when I was 14, and that was old Nokia brick I think. The first Touchscreen Smartphone I got was for my 17th Birthday in 2014, by which time 90% of my academic year already had a Smartphone and I knew that I had become a bit out of date.

I love nostalgia. I love the 80s. I was a teenager that decade, and indeed it was 'the decade that made me'. However, there were very serious problems, not the least of which was the constant spectre of nuclear annihilation, which was ingrained in kids at school starting age 5. That really is what made us. The end could happen anytime, so Carpe Diem! That attitude was everywhere. Thanks again for another awesome video.

I was born in 1983 so technically I was there but in reality I'm a child of the 90's since I don't remember much from 80s. I mean I was what 7 years old when they ended. That been said 30 years from now someone will make video just like this one and everyone will say: "Man 2010's were really something!" The point is your childhood or/and teen decade will always have special place in your heart. It is turbulent time when we discover world and it is magic by definition. But yea life was simpler and I long for that life since I wasn't born with iPhone in my hand but for the kids of 21st century this is a simple world. 1980's must be hell of a complicated era for someone born in 1920's.

Tbh as someone from the recent generation i have never personally had this great generation. Everything was drama or other issues. The 80's had its problem but from speaking with people who lived there there was never this extreme doomsday shadow on peoples minds. Climate change, decline of the west and the growing domination of social media only isolates my generation and i think that even with its flaws the 80's probably were the latest golden age which i sadly missed. I hope we as a species can make this decade a decade of change in the right direction.

80's was the best of times to be young. No social media to judge you, no smart phones to record your every mistake, indiscretion. No online shopping, we had shopping malls where shops, arcades, cinemas, food courts catered to thousands daily. The high street still had a pulse with family busineses providing the community and shop keepers knew your name. Papers delivered by kids on bikes, Saturdays kids working for their record/clothes money. TV shows didn't lecture you, films entertained you, music consisted of instruments, voices, oh boy some of the voices. Freddie Mercury, Phil Collins, George Michael, Laura Branigan, Madonna, Richard Marx etc...... Everything in the 80s seemed to be full of life, an explosion of goodness in every area of your young life. To be part of a generation that inspired and experienced such a decade is something I am eternally grateful for. I ❤ 80s.

I feel so much nostalgia for a decade I wasn’t even born in. I wasn’t even thought about. But I feel like I got to experience just a tiny bit of it through music, movies, adverts and videos on KZbin. How I wish I was a teen in the 80’s man. P.S. WE’LL ALWAYS BE TOGETHER. TOGETHER IN ELECTRIC DREEEEEEAMSS

The 80s was one big no stop party for me, I was at the perfect age and had a new Z28 went clubbing almost every night, and to think we couldn't wait for the future thinking it was even going to be better, boy was we fucking wrong. I pray I'm in a nightmare and ill wake up in the 80s.
