"Perfection is paralysis" - Dan Pena. I used to be like John's Dad until I saw this quote from Dan. Changed my life. I love cars and have a reasonably large collection. But it doesn't make sense to dedicate your life to an object that you can't take with you. These cars WILL be owned by somebody else someday. My favorite cars in my collection are the ones that get driven, and enjoyed with family and friends. I've got art pieces too, but they are more of a burden I need to protect than they are enjoyable to own.

I think it's extremely screwed that his dad basically sank a marriage over a material possession. It's one thing to enjoy/obsess over a car, but to have your child praise your obsession over a healthy family is genuinely wild asf.

My dad is that ocd car guy that spent weekend's and almost all his spare time in the garage. My mom told him that one day he would regret not spending more time with her. She died in 4 day's from finding out that she had cancer, and her last word's were in the er where she was last conscience. We took her home, i was there the whole time, prayed for an easy passing, and that all her grand kids get to say goodbye. The last person to say goodbye was my nephew on a navy ship across the world, who was given special permission to call because they only allow for parent's. I saw a brilliant flash of light streak across the room, and knew it was time. My dad asked if he had time to chill in the garage because it was hard, and i said no, she is going. He said okay, because he knew that i had feelings about thing's that happen. In less than 15 minutes she took her last breathe, and my dad thanked me, because he said he almost missed it. He carries guilt, and doesn't spend the time in the garage as much because it haunts him. Never put some material possession above your family, and wife or husband you took a vow to. John, knows he has resentments, and is lying if he says he doesn't. G-d bless, and know that life is short.

I remember in the late 80’s my dad was hot-rodding Volare wagon and was wet sanding the fresh paint in the garage. He gave me a piece of sand paper and a bucket of water, and I immediately sanded a corner of chrome off the newly chromed bumper. He was furious and then noticed that I was upset that I made a mistake. He knew that being mad at a 7yo was a silly and said mistakes happen, then showed me how to do the job correctly (and actually sand the paint). He died a few years later after a long battle with melanoma and I always remember his kindness of this one massive screw up that I made while trying to help.

Wow I can truly relate to this story. I have been an engineer for many years and ocd is basically a requirement of the job. Unfortunately it's also a curse and follows you home in your day to day life. Striving for perfection in an imperfect world is a infuriating. Just the other day I had to buy some Twist and Seal Maxx Heavy Duty Outdoor Extension Cord Safety Covers. Their were about 50 on the shelf and I opened/ inspected every single one before picking the ones I wanted. 99% had quality control issues (missing rubber, deformed plastic, poor seals, etc). Even though I knew it was going to get scratched and damaged with daily use, I still expected it to be flawless when first purchased.

As a car addict from birth I could listen to car stories all day everyday! The only issue I have is with these very in depth stories is the showing photos of different cars that aren’t featured in the story. I understand if for whatever reason you don’t have a large number of photos of the specific car but if we are talking about block sanding and black lacquer I don’t want to see red or white cars! It makes sense in the introduction to use other Mira pictures especially if your lacking the visual element but it just detracts from the story because the viewer well at least I am thinking is this the same car? Was it ever white? It just detracts from the quality of the John’s story. I know he said the father was OCD and he also said he didn’t want the pictures of the process getting out but you would think someone with that level of ocd and commitment to perfection there would be binders full of photos of the actual car. .

This is pretty sad. The car is no longer original. By disassembling the car for body and paint, you now have a Lamborghini that was assembled by a guy in a Florida garage, rather than by the factory workers in Sant’ Agata. All of those paint issues were part of how they built it, and what gives the car its character. Now I expect this will become a trailer Queen, never to be driven at speed or enjoyed for the purpose it was built for ever again. What a waste.

It’s a time capsule. Why ruin a piece of art when you can just buy another one & drive that one? It’s the same thing the only difference is one has been perfectly restored & preserved.
@bwofficial17762 жыл бұрын
Think of it this way: it's the ultimate representation of what a Miura could be. Lamborghini workers would be puffing on cigarettes as they slapped parts on in between sips of wine. What if someone decided to rebuild it with an exacting eye for quality with money no object and no corners cut to create the nicest Miura in the world? All Miuras are trailer queens. They're too valuable to drive further than around the block. Why not have the nicest one? John seems quite happy to have an immaculate Miura.
@gotham612 жыл бұрын
