Is it true that modern chip shops soak the spuds in a bleach solution to stop the chips going brown. And I won't buy chips cooked in transfat. I worked in one in Scotland as a teenager. Loved it. I never knew that. I like my chips to be golden brown which you rarely find nowadays. I can't understand why they would not want their chips to be golden brown because that way they look and taste so much better. I always thought it because of the type of potato chippies used as some spuds have more natural sugar in them which helps them to brown. I got this idea from a documentary about walkers crisps manufacture and they used a certain type of potato that was low in sugar, making crisps pale looking, unlike they were years ago also.
