Helldiver's wasn't designed to make passive income, it's meant to be a game and provide hours of fun. These other live services are done as means to make additional money and for no other reason. Until these publishers realize that and stop forcing developers to make these terrible games that they never would have made otherwise the troubles will just keep piling. It's no wonder all the key devs at Rocksteady including the founders all left to make a new studio. They were tired of the bullshit.

There are ways to do live services right, and even be marketable to single-player gamers, and ways to completely screw them up. Unfortunately, most AAA publishers both a) follow ALL the wrong rules, and b) pay ZERO attention to all the failures before, and forge ahead into game after game dying. The entire game died at the concept stage. The idea of villains killing off brainwashed heroes works as a one-off, but trying to extend that into a multi-year live service game is really dumb. one of the things these companies need to revisit is the ENTIRE CONCEPT of "the grind." I no longer care if "the grind" can be bypasased with MTX; I simply won't play games that require many hours of grinding AT ALL. I just hate the greed that inspired the live service boom because it caused so many developers and publishers to be painfully short-sighted. Live service games can be hugely profitable but people will only pay for an experience they feel is worth it. Instead of making a new narrative game which they are known to be great at, they tried to make a substandard live service game and then found that not enough players would support that decision. It's happened time and time again and I don't know when the industry will learn that to make a successful live service game you need to approach the gameplay and narrative side as a narrative game and then build the live service around that, because that's the level of care and narrative development that gamers have become accustomed to.

Interesting little brain-exercise I've been doing lately is thinking what and how minor changes would have impacted the story of this game. I believe that instead of the game's legacy being one of the worst bombs and a PR nightmare, we would have a very different conversation if if exactly the same game other than live-service elements and microtransactions removed and never having been a part of it, the game wouldn't be pulling Helldivers or Palworld numbers, but it would be a positively received title with minor financial success. I genuinely believe that chasing those big live-service money is the thing that killed the financial viability of this game. Talk about WB digging their own grave with greed.

Reminds me of Paragon. If they start doing periodic character releases, they could kind of hype people by doing character mastery challenges or something so the first 10 players that hit a certain milestone with a new character get a bonus skin or whatever. You know your in trouble when even Angry Joe trashes your super hero game, the dude loves super heroes and are usually pretty generous when reviewing them. They made some idiotic decisions, like having Captain Boomerang only use guns for instance. Basically they screwed up and made a boring repetitive game with a pretty bad story and Helldivers 2 released a fun live service game pretty close so they are pretty much screwed. Actually making the game good would be very costly. They would have to revamp the combat (and give the Cap his boomerangs, what were they thinking?), they would have to add in a lot of new enemies since they are far too few variants and they would also have to fix the boss battles. I think it is likely they will release about 2 more seasons of the same quality as the first and can the game afterwards. Live actions games are very hard to get good and I don't think anyone at Rocksteady had any idea how to do that. Some idiot in charge saw the money Fortnight brought in and wanted a piece of the pie without actually having the people to make it work. So yeah, Rocksteady needs to go back to their formula that actually worked if they want to still exist a few years from now. I also think it was a mistake to make the villains the protagonists of the game, it is generally harder to make a game about villains the heroes but it isn't like it really mattered here, if the game play isn't fun people wont stay. Even if the story would have been good (which it isn't) that is less important in a live service game then a single player game since you want people to play the game for months or even years. That means you need your combat to be really good and it isn't. That is something very hard and expensive to fix and once the word is out that your game is bad, it is super hard to fix that and get people interested in your game again.

None of the visual changes in the game have made me want to buy the game, where I didn't want to play the game before. To me as a viewer following the game, there is nothing that these updates bring besides "I need money to make up my losses". Although to be fair I liked the Batman Arkham knight's game and I would have bought, but I never played or bought it because I didn't have the ability to play them on the device I wanted to. However, at this point, I do not want to buy the game because the game doesn't look enjoyable to either look at, play, or even think about with the controversy surrounding it.

They have in bold font on the Xbox store where they said they can cut online support for the game at any time so anytime they want Warner bros can cut the cord at any moment

I can assure you the game isn't doing great on Console either. It isn't in the top 40 most played games on either console, and total sale numbers across all platforms is less than 300,000 copies by the.most optimistic estimates....which is pretty crap for a game that allegedly cost $200m to make.

The game is nothing like the classic, New 52 or Rebirth Suicide Squad comics. It is just a cringe shooter with a subpar DC skin. I love Deadshot in N52, Rebirth and Assault on Arkham. This Deadshot seems to come from Wish.

Also this is the worst version of Joker I've ever seen flat out. If somebody could sit down and intentionally talk how bad this Joker is he's the dumbest freaking character. I mean it's even worse that he's supposed to be the Joker but just but even just judging him as a character it's terrible

Season 2 will have the Batman Brainiac gimmick fight and the mid season update will conclude the whole thing with an epic Brainiac Brainiac battle that is just all controlled League members at once while you occasionally get to shoot him. Then they will post some apology.jpg announcing that the servers will be shut down in the near future. The end.

There's a couple issues, as someone who likes the game. 1. Lack of content 2. You earn the Joker by doing the new content...so you have nothing new to do with Joker...IDK what they were thinking there... 3. Reskinned boss. BORING and uninspired.
