She left willingly according Iiad. She states herself that she willingly left her family, not was kidnapped. @@pendragonsxskywalkers9518 Like 99% of the stories tell us that Aphrodite made Helen run away with Paris, which by our modern standards is coercion. Even the Aeneid, which is notoriously anti-Greek, has Venus save Helen from Aeneas' misplaced wrath because she did nothing wrong. Also, thanks Venus for saving the woman's whose life you ruined from your absolute garbage excuse for a son. But for some reason, the Greeks had this weird thing where, even in literal legends where the gods are responsible for nearly everything, humans get blamed for crimes the god explicitly make them commit. For example, Hera is responsible for Herakles murdering his entire family...so Herakles is responsible for the crime, and after following the oracle guided by Hera, he has to do his famous labours.

@@travisoliver6741 Aphrodite and Eros are SYMBOLIC metaphore of lust 🤦🏻♂🤦🏻♂ There is no coercion at all. Woman who inspired Helen run away with her lover and Greeks interpreted this that she was made by desire that taken over her and later made story about Helen. That's what it looks like. Eros is responsible in myth by all desire. So Paris was also "coerced" And whenever any character in greek myths fall in love, they were coerced. It’s not exactly Aphrodite’s fault since she is the goddess of beauty and love, which even with her beauty, it attracted Paris and he just wants the most beautiful lady in the world than power and victory. It was mainly because Paris was too dumb and young, which is why he chose Aphrodite. If I were him, I’d either give the Apple of Discord to Athena, since she is the goddess of wisdom and never lost a fight, or if I wanted to have the most handsome man in the world, being the ruler of the entire Asia, and want victory whenever there is a war, I would’ve sliced the apple into three pieces and give it to the three of them. 😔 Paris is just too dumb.

Hmm...this sparks a pet theory of mine. Historically speaking; I think that if there was a Helen or Helen figure during the time of the Trojan War, the "love affair" could have been a misunderstanding based on what Spartan witnesses saw. I think the Spartan treasury was Paris' actual goal the whole time and Helen was taken as a hostage. There's plenty of time between their little boat ride back to Troy and the arrival of Menelaus and the rest of the Greeks for Stockholm Syndrome to kick in. That would explain why the Greeks would think she was bewitched by Aphrodite, wouldn't it? I could be wrong, but I think it's very possible that that's how it happened.

Before you continue to read this reply, keep in mind that I am not that educated and I heard this information quite a while ago, so I might get some things mixed up. It is unknown as to whether or not this story in itself was fiction or not, however the city of troy itself was probably real. The only reason that we cannot find the remains is because of a man called Heinrich Schliemann. Basically this guy heard about where the remains of Troy probably were and he was like “oh dope how about we try and excavate them?”. Unfortunately this guy was too impatient and decided to use dynamite to unearth the remains. However in his dumbassery he ended up destroying the layer that would have contained the remains. So that’s that for you.

In Sappho poetry (For Anactoria) it was stated that Helen fell in love with Paris ("she did not spare a single thought for her child nor for her dear parents but the goddess of love led her astray to desire"). In Iliad Helena also states herself that she ran away with Paris and she refers him as "husband". In tragedy "Orestes" it is stated Helen ran away, and in Ovid's "Heroides" Helen agrees to elope and marry Paris. Also in many greek vases Eros/Cupid touches Helen brew ensuring her love for prince of Troy.
