To be honest a Greek can't withstand the humiliation of another Greek. No matter how much they fought with each other they always stand together whenever a foreign country is invading.
@godricheart49562 жыл бұрын
I wish that were the case. The Russians bombed the Ukrainian-Greek community of Mariupol and killed Greek citizens. While the Greeks of Greece united against Putin, majority of Greek-Cypriots feel more solidarity with Putin than with their fellow Greeks.

I've read the Odyssey 8 times. Definitely my favorite book.
@dootznbootz Жыл бұрын
Which translation do you recommend?
@J_Braz_ Жыл бұрын
@@dootznbootz well, i don't remember the first version I read. But the version I've read the most is by, E. V. Rieu. I dont know how definitive his version is. In any case I'm sure any published version of "The Odyssey" would be a worthy read. ✌️
@dootznbootz Жыл бұрын
@@J_Braz_ Thank you! And I agree, I adore the Odyssey and I've already read a few translations (Robert Fagles, Ian Johnston, and Alexander Pope, specifically) but I've not read the translation by Rieu yet! I just like seeing the differences as it can change the whole story. Example: "Odysseus lied" VS. "Odysseus, a man of many councils, said" as saying he's a liar compared to saying "oh, he's an actor/storyteller." changes Odysseus' character. ☺I just find it fascinating!
@J_Braz_ Жыл бұрын
@@dootznbootz my pleasure. The Rieu version has many "Homerisms." My favorite part of the book is when Odyssey, disguised as a old beggar is told to fight the town slob. I think he got body slammed, much to the suitors delight.
@dootznbootz Жыл бұрын
@@J_Braz_ He broke his jaw or at the very least REALLY messed up his mouth depending on the different versions I've read. There's so many goofy/cool moments like that in the book because right before he does, he's thinking "Maybe I should do a light punch? Or at least act weaker than I am. If I use my real strength then I'll be found out." and still completely annihilates the other beggar in one punch anyways. Even when apparently holding back, he's still overpowered. Know why one of his epiphets is "Godlike Odysseus".
