You don’t NEED to do a mosaic with this technique, do you? Could I do this with any pixel pattern?

I too have asked that question but have not yet explored it. The issue with a pixel pattern is you would probably need to convert it because of the alternating rows and the drop down counting as basically 3 spaces (or 2) . But I think it wouldn't hurt to try right? That's how all great discoveries are made. I would love to see pictures if you do

Yes just be sure to use cotton yarn because acrylic will melt in high heat.
