Thanks to the community response, I've been tasked with reacting to Strawhat V's "The Breathtaking World of One Piece". I wasn't sure what to expect with this reaction, and was delightfully surprised by the visual feast for the eyes that took me for a ride!
As you are probably starting to figure out, my brain goes all over the place. Enjoy following me on a journey of memories both new and old in this reaction and incredible travel catalogue of the imagination of Eiichiro Oda's creation!

Thank you to everyone who recommended this watch! I can still see all the colors with my eyes closed! I know I'll get some flak for being a pause champ and chopping up the reaction, but it's just not my style to talk over a video. If you prefer reactions the other way, please give a multitude of other reactors some support for fitting your style. And as always please give support for the original video. I know how difficult putting together informational videos can be (because I've never successfully done it yet!) and these creators absolutely deserve all the credit! I appreciate you all for your time, and allowing me to be part of YOUR One Piece Journey too!

I'll check the copyright claims, but I don't think anything is blocked (I also think it would tell you if that was the case). Strange. Video is reading no impact on the claims, and it looks like HD is done processing. It should be working. Maybe a simple refresh of the browser or restarting the app could get it working again? Watching One Piece is like traveling and learning things from all over the world alongside your best friends. As if in the first episode Luffy had said "I'm going on an adventure to discover and change the world, do you want to come with me?" Whenever I watch it I feel at home with these characters.

I definitely get the sense of that already (even through episode 14 of the English Sub). I've often spoken in my Discord before I started this reaction journey that I'd felt like I'd been missing adventure. Games are fun, but I always felt so directionless with my let's plays. So, having an incredible epic to settle into and share in the journey with others for years to come is indeed incredibly epic! I count myself grateful for the people I've met since starting this journey and the people I will continue to meet into the future. Thank you for being a part of that with your comment!

Ive always said that one piece has more in common with epic fantasy novels then to other shounen anime. The world scale is massive, each location has its own environment, culture, politics, technology and traditions. The whole series inspires adventure, you can take the characters and plot out of the world and it is still an impactful and interesting place.

I absolutely got that sense as well from the other videos, and even the live action, I've watched so far. I think in one of them (maybe this one - they are starting to blur together) I mentioned the world felt like a character of its own, for exactly all the reasons you've stated. I'm so excited to work through the world and explore it on my own, and join the chorus of opinions that share a similar sentiment to yours. I really appreciate your thoughts. Thanks for joining me on this journey, and by extension, letting me be a small part of yours!

I love how you're coming back to the concept of hope with One Piece, as that's a core part of the entire experience. Giving hope to others, following your hopes to seek what you need to feel fulfilled, losing hope only to find it again when the right person or circumstance comes to you... all of that is explored in the series, from the intimate and very personal level all the way up to a global one. I am so glad you have stepped aboard the mighty vessel that is this story. From your other videos on it, you will definitely not regret it.

Hope really is the embodiment of all things One Piece. And as I've dipped my toes into this wonderful world and community, I'm learning more and more about how hope is a resounding part of every straw hat. I get the sense that a lot of veteran One Piece fans come to new viewer videos with the two-fold HOPE that the new viewer will enjoy One Piece and that they might be able to assist in helping a new viewer navigate the incredibly dense and intentional creation of Oda. For me, I really do think I'm an empath. I strongly associate more with the feelings people have, which often lends greater weight to the things they say. This is such a beautifully insightful comment, and I thank you so much for sharing this moment from your own One Piece journey with me, and I am so grateful that you have decided to join me in mine. I write that a lot in comments these days. Because I think that sentiment I've shared with the community all culminates in the idea of a shared HOPE that we have. Thank you 🙏

Oh, come now, it is, in fact, several volumes of manga. It's definitely on the level as a book series! As someone who works in a school, this sounds like a based American librarian take. Haha! Just teasing. I know exactly what you are saying, though. I was just talking with someone who was a fan of the manga for over 2 decades about how hard the ending was going to hit for them. And I couldn't help but try to imagine that for myself as well. I kept coming back to how difficult it was for me to watch The Return of the King and see the Hobbits return home to the Shire after their lives had been altered forever by their adventures, and how the people around them celebrated and went on, oblivious to the hardships and experiences of these four. I say it's such a hard watch because that was exactly how it felt to come back to small town America after my 4 years living in Japan. Life here went on as it always had, and I was left to pick up the pieces of an old life, the people around me unable to understand and relate to anything I'd undergone. I imagine to reach that end of One Piece when it's day finally dawns will be magnitudes upon magnitudes of that very sentiment. For so many having over a quarter of a century of their life pulled along on an adventure. I don't think it would be the best book (a container for a story). I think it already is. I appreciate your comment so much and look forward to the volumes of magnificent imagination that will take me to all manner of strange and wonderful places. Thank you for taking the time to let me be part of your One Piece journey, and I'm glad that you have chosen to be part of mine!

You know what's amazing? At first Oda thought One Piece would last about 5 years however he said that once he started writing, his characters just took a life of their own and started to write the story for him, now it's been over 25 years, it became a global phenom with one of the most amazing and loyal fandoms in the world, a story that incredibly still keeps on being better and better, even after 1050+ chapters and episodes, a story that like for many became my favourite piece of media ever. People can say whatever they want, Oda is still a human (surprisingly lol), ofc not everything is perfect, but the amount of passion, creativity and effort put on this story, is just unrivaled. My advice, enjoy the journey, don't rush it, because once you are caught up, it's when the real pain begins, you see the final saga just started and every storyline, every character, every piece of information carefully built over the course of 25 years is finally are finally coming together and oh boy, all i'm gonna say is that it's a struggle to not even read the spoilers every single week

This is such great insight! I attributed this quote to JRR Tolkien in another video, but I actually think it may just be a general idiom. The idea that: the story grows in the telling. I just wrapped up my final reaction of this pre-watch series and actually mentioned this very fact about how Oda had initially believed the story to be about 5 years and wondering at what point along in the journey he had realized it would be so much grander. It's such valuable insight that I really can't wait to experience in the anime, and even indeed (especially in fact) in the manga. How tangible the creators mind becomes in the pages. What messages must have been left frozen in time in the narrative to look back on. This story really has won me over in a lot of ways, even before experiencing it (apart from the live action - which I loved) for myself! From the creation to the community, I am very much looking forward to all the strange and wonderful imaginings of a genius mind. Thank you again for being a small part in this journey and allowing me to be a small part in yours!

@@Noxiddar No Sir, i thank you and welcome aboard! I can tell you that i've read the manga and watched the anime, the manga ofc translates way better the message the author is trying to give us but there's just something about seeing these characters come to life that astonishes me, so yeah i do love the anime as well, however it's not for everyone, the pacing is indeed not good and a lot of people struggle keep watching the episodes, me personally i just want to see these characters move, hear the incredible soudtrack and the SPECTACULAR voice actors that are in this show, so the pace to me isn't really tha much big of a deal, i'd say try both and see what better suits your mood, no matter the decision tho even if you decide to be a manga only, i STRONGLY suggest to check out some clips/moments or even a few whole episodes that are done beautifully and very well deserved of being watched, sorry for the long comment again, really liked your content so far, keep going man, i'll be sure to stay around :) P.S Oda does LOVE leaving messages frozen in time, you're in for a treat my friend

This video gives me tears of joy everytime I see it. One Piece came into my life when I was starved for good stories and I wasn't finding them from Hollywood. I came into it excepting nothing but a silly cartoon with nothing of substance, but before long an important moment (which I won't spoil) opened my eyes and made me realize I had discovered something special. I knew from that moment on that there was no going back. I would go to the ends of the world for these characters. My love for the story only grew from there. One Piece is a funny but dramatic odyssey that has ignited my love for storytelling like nothing before or since. It has also cause me to look back at stories I've read before and seeing them in a deeper way than before. It still blows my mind that something I thought was a silly cartoon would become my favorite fictional story of all time.

As a fellow storyteller, I can't tell you how much I appreciate comments like this. There really is no better feeling than having expectations subverted (and in a good way), being told a great story, and, as a result, felt like your life has been changed. Even just in this short process, I'm finding my life changed by this journey before I've really even begun! I'm traditionally a lonewolf type. I love to explore and discover things on my own, but it has been such a joy to have navigators on hand to guide and direct this wayward vessel, that had once been listless and directionless for years. I truly thank you so much, not just for the engagement on my little channel, but to have taken the time to look back on your OWN journey and welcome me along. The years ahead are bright indeed, as I look to a horizon with a rising sun over the dawn of a grand, new adventure!

It's such an underappreciated level of storytelling! I'm glad you noticed as well! Think of how many battles would be lifeless in the moment leading up to them if you didn't hear the quick *clink* of a sword shifting in its scabbard, ready to be drawn. Or what about the soft crunch of gravel when one character is breaking down, and the other has no words, just the shifting of weight to lend a reassuring hand on the shoulder? So much impact would be lost without sound! Thank you for being part of this journey with me and bringing your insight and commeraderie into the auditory nirvana that is sound design!

YES. You said it right there. "Not just a backdrop for characters." Remove the "NOT, " and you've summed up every Hollywood movie or TV show with a fantastical setting for the last 10 years or more. I'm looking forward to this because it seems like these places don't "SERVICE" the story, but they really "SERVE AS" the STORY. I made a fleeting mention in the video, but it really does seem like the world is also a character, where, in other stories, it is more like stage dressing for the story. I appreciate your thoughts!

It's amazing to see another Tolkien fan who discovered One Piece. I've noticed a lot of similarities between Arda and OP world, especially in manga (anime is great, but manga is a lot better, at least for me). When I started reading OP a year ago and I instantly felt at home. Not only because of the worldbulding, but also because of the strong morality of the main characters, especially Luffy, in the cruel world - that is really similar to a lot of Tolkien heroes. Good luck with your journey! PS.: You may, if you want to, watch also the video made also by Strawhat V that is called "Unleashed - The Final Saga Trailer". It shows the true face of the OP world - the amount of spoilers (although it's really "the final saga trailer") is similar to this video - so it is, in my opinion, safe to watch even at the beginning of the story. It mostly spoils the dark atmosphere of the further arcs, but you've already know it, because you saw some other videos concerning One Piece.

I just finished reacting to the first 3 episodes as I'm writing this comment, and immediately, it jumps out at me just how right you are about the strongly defined moral characters contrasted with a cruel world. I had a lot to say about how being driven so hard by intention doesn't mean Luffy is of low intelligence because he doesn't possess a certain no-how. It's more that the no-how doesn't present a worry or obstacle for him in the direction his intention takes him. It's so fascinating to peel back layers of nuance and character study. I really hope how fascinating I found diving into character and story translates to the viewer. But I thoroughly enjoyed my first (Second-First was dubbed up to episode 41-42) foray into the anime and story of One Piece. I'm very much looking forward to reading the manga after the anime for even more nuance and illumination. It's got me incredibly excited for the future in a way no other story has. “The beautiful visuals are just a small part of the grand scope” That line is so true. I want to say so much but I can’t because spoilers But Japanese myth, Norse myth, fairy tales, cartoons, religion, all of it is in this. It explores themes and motivations. Like what is treasure and why is it valuable to certain people and while we’re at it let’s explore the depths of the extreme differences in what is perceived as treasure BUT have two completely different characters embody the same desire for a similar and materialistic type of treasure BUT at the same time being juxtaposed. And that’s just one theme! It’s truly a remarkable story and my favorite of all time.

For me, it was the pure spectacle and vibrant, inviting world stretched out before me, although, always enshrouded in a kind of veil of mystery since I had no frame of reference for what I saw. I have stood before Izumo Taisha during Kamiarizuki, watched the ice at the edge of the world from below me stretch on as far as the eye could see. I've seen serene sunsets of orange that brought a grown man to tears. And yet, for all my adventures, I'm still looking forward to seeing where this one will take me. And chronicling this adventure on KZbin, I think the marvels will, of course, in part, be the visuals, storytelling, and lessons learned along the way. But I think, even more than that, this journey will be made memorable by the stories of the people I meet along the way, both in story and out. I thank you for being among the many here at the start to see me off on this grand adventure!

I was reading this book by Dr. Wayne Dyer called "The Power of Intention" and he had this saying that he often quoted throughout the book: "Change your thoughts, and the way you think about the world will begin to change." From what you are telling me, it sounds like the deeper into One Piece I get, the more different of a lens I will have to view our world through and appreciate it with a new perspective. That sounds exciting. It really is my hope that this journey through this series leaves me changed for the better. And already, before I've even begun, I'm seeing the culmination of so much meaning being brought out through the hearts and minds of those who have traveled far through their own personal journey with One Piece. I'm constantly blown away and treasure every knew insight and experience people share. Thank you for helping guide my start of this journey. 🙏

I do love that, and it's been a part of my core philosophy that I've adopted a few years back, which I refer to as "Become King."" I liken it to something like movie Aragorn's path where he has that turning point in his life where he realizes he must pursue a higher calling than let himself remain stuck in his own reluctance. So while I never actually want to be King or consider myself "on top," I want to continue to climb, to place a greater emphasis on "Become." Because for me, the journey is far more interesting than the measure of rest at the end of it. I think, especially after seeing how focused those themes were in the OPLA, really lit that passionate fire in my heart to go on this anime journey, and eventually to the heart of the story with the manga itself. I find myself no longer reluctantly standing still but thrust upon the open seas, adventuring through an EPIC in every sense of the word! It's been a blast so far!

I love the fact that you're approaching this with Tolkien's words in mind. Tolkien's Middle-earth and Oda's One Piece world are my two favourite fictional creations when it comes to imaginative worlds, and I have a huge respect for both authors. What they have created is beautiful.
@Noxiddar
@Noxiddar 9 ай бұрын
Tolkien's world ultimately left me changed. It was part of what made me realize I'd spent my youth preparing for a long journey. On the flight from my home to Japan I had intentionally listened to "Concerning Hobbits" because I felt like a fresh-faced Bilbo, leaving the shire for the first time and setting out on a world of adventure. On the return flight after spending 4 years in Japan. I listened to Hans Zimmer's "The Last Samurai" soundtrack, and quietly wept in my seat. My life had been forever changed by adventure. And here I find myself, the culmination of years of adventuring in our world and others, I'm set before the world from the mind of one man, a quarter of a century (and counting) in the making. And I find myself yet again like Bilbo, now older and seasoned, but still filled with the delight of another journey. "I think I'm quite ready for another adventure." Thank you for joining me, on another life-changing adventure!

I'm always gonna be happy when i see someone watch one piece for the first time and I’m grateful for the live action because a lot of people will also jump into this world. For me one piece is a journey, a long journey full of hope, sadness, suffering, joy and adventure and many other things. A lot of people are hesitant to go into this journey because this is an anime and it can seem childish but i will always say this, don’t let this colorful and childish world that is full of silly adventures fool you, it’s a layered world with many characters with their own stories, a world full of mysteries and you will be surprised by what this childish story can tell, like it can go VERY dark and i think that’s one of the strongest point of one piece, you see these silly stories and colors and as soon you say ohh this is fun, then Oda hits you with a twist that makes you think if this story is actually silly or is it more than that and i really love this about one piece and the genius of Oda's writing. My advice for one piece is don’t rush it! Watch it and don’t think of catching up because once you start it, you will find yourself half way through without noticing so just take your time and enjoy this story on your own pace.

One of my favorite quotes is from the beloved author C.S. Lewis in which he says, "When I became a man, I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up." I've lived in Japan and stood in trains and watched people from ages 8 to 80 with a manga in hand. So I certainly understand the love for manga and anime alike. I don't think I ever thought One Piece, visually, was childish. I think my biggest issue with it when I was younger is it seemed too simplistic in style. Where were the bulging muscles and world-breaking energy blasts!? Imagine my surprise to learn in my late 30s I had missed out on such amazing complexity and design both in narrative and art! I love that there is such a rich pallette of nuance in One Piece that can bring in an audience of all ages. I am definitely one of the LA audiences who want to continue on with the story in the anime and manga! I really appreciate your helpful introduction into the world of One Piece. I fully intend to embrace the adventure at my pace, which, if these reaction videos have taught me anything, probably means I'll be done reacting to East Blue in a year or two! 🤣

@@Noxiddar i grew up with one piece and it has a big place in my heart so i am really grateful that people are getting into it now after watching the LA. A lot of people unfortunately see the simple art style and the silly stuff of this story and immediately say it’s not that good but i always say this to people, don’t let the art style fool you. And i'm happy you're getting into this story with this open mindset because a lot of people will enjoy one piece if they went into this with an open mindset and don’t let the art style stops them. I really hope you will enjoy one piece and the story and the emotions of this beautiful world. Taking your time with this story is the best way to watch this, like the Live Action has so many little details you wouldn’t notice unless you put so many hours into this story 😂 and i'm someone who literally grew with one piece so i read the manga and watched the anime A LOT of times so if you’re someone who loved little details and connecting the story, you will enjoy this story.

You saying “I hope that I change from this” really struck a chord with me. I grew up as an anime hater because I was too busy watching the brain rot that Disney and Nickelodeon were producing. I had friends that watched anime but one of my friends was the biggest DBZ fan and that was all he ever talked about, so I just assumed (rather stupidly) that all anime was like DBZ so I was never really into anime. Fast forward to high school and one of my friends introduced me to Full Metal Alchemist one night while we were sharing a joint and right then and there it hit me in the face how stupid I was for never watching anime. I was hooked and started consuming every anime that peaked my interest, I stumbled upon One Piece very early in my anime journey but this was 2018 and there was 700+ episodes and that really deterred me from watching.I’ve been to Japan before so I knew the popularity one piece had within their culture. Fast forward to 2020 I had consumed most of the anime that interested so I figured screw it I might as well give it a go and like most people by episode 37 I was on my feet in tears hyped for crew. As soon as I got 300+ episodes deep it was clear to me that what I was seeing was one of the best stories ever created. I’ve been fully caught up since 2020 and let me tell you this anime will simultaneously rip your heart out while making you laugh tears. Your in-depth reactions and your ability to articulate your thoughts will make you feel extremely attached to the world Master Oda has crafted and that is the secret ingredient to creating a new One Piece fan. Cheers from Oklahoma 🥳

I'm certain you know by now, but One Piece just BEGS to be dissected and analyzed. There are so many little details and design choices that provide hints and context that are expanded on later. A great example is Shanks. Using your knowledge of Viking ship design and mythology gives you a decent picture into Shank's personality and motivations long before he reappers in the story.

This dude seems to get it. The reason I recommend One Piece so heavily despite also being a massive LOTR fan is no story quite has the emotional depth, the world building or the character design/depth as One Piece. Even today, having been through this story multiple times the same scenes get me, but it's all built up slowly and fantastically, you can truly feel these characters through their voice actors (which is why I tell people to watch this subbed as well, because the original performance is always better). I look forward to seeing your journey, the one thing i can recommend is take your time and enjoy it. One Piece has this magical effect where people seem intimidated by it's size, but when they are reaching the end they feel there just isn't enough, that they are not ready to go on a week by week basis with this show/manga. The anime has a lot of problems, but I feel it has many strong points as well.

I really think that came through with my appreciation (I don't consider what I do analysis, but instead, appreciation) for Usopp and the Syrup Village arc. Every aspect of that performance pointed back and indicated his character. The whole thing so far is exactly as you say. Magical. In fact it was him that help him get his gig in the Shounen Jump, the main manga publisher in Japan where One Piece is published. Even the focus on adventure and fantasy that comes from One Piece you can also see in Fairy Tale, but at the end of the day the author of Fairy Tale is not the best, at least for me as a fan of several mangas from S. @@Noxiddar i grew up with my parents and grandparents teaching me about Roman Numerals. Since neither my parents or grandparents owned a clock or watch with just regular numbers. All the grandfather clocks and watches they owned had Roman Numerals

I think you are mistaken my friend. Red flames burn at around 500ºC-1000ºC (roughly 1000 to 1800ºF ) while white flames tend to burn around 1300-1500ºC (2400-2700° F). If anything your flaming beard is just burning hotter hahaha

As long as I don't brown dwarf on camera, then all is well! But I like this sentiment. Time to burn hotter than ever and forge this figure into a formidable reactor!

I have certainly enjoyed the 51 episodes I've reacted to thus far. And in that length of time, I've come to learn that there is always something to draw out and appreciate. And once I've had that realization, I know there will never come a time I am unable to appreciate what I am seeing. But I confess I'm still at the beginning, yet looking forward to the rest of the journey ahead!

You said it, somebody get Usopp in here to scrape this dude growing on the side on the boat like a barnacle in my side! I would have done things WAY different than this guy! AND I would have wore more hats, too! Mad 😡 I bet he's only doing this for money and is secretly some bored wealthy rich guy who wants to sap even more of our money and ruin our beloved story! And did you see how slow he was talking!? Dude, spit it out! Every other KZbinr can talk and not look like they are thinking. Maybe he's an alien, come to think of it. This is some perverse mastermind plan to subvert our planet's population and subliminally send a message to prepare us for invasion. He actually is the worst. You're so right!

Take this comment with every grain of salt, it's just my feeling/opinion. I honestly can't with the Avatar: The Blue Na'vi People-sounding music in this. It just feels too reverent for a series that doesn't take itself too seriously. It gives me a vibe that this was probably created by a One Piece elitist who I don't wish to associate with. But I can be totally off the mark !

I certainly feel the reverence aspect. But I also think it fits because Adiemus has a kind of feeling of otherworldly sense immense scope. It moves from this floating woodwind to a female vocalist, showing the intimacy of CHARACTER until it hits the main chorus with evocative drums and chorus and strings showing the magnitude of the WORLD. I think it's a brilliant song choice for showing the magical and imaginative nature of Oda's world because it gives that feeling of being transported somewhere so alien from what is familiar about our world. Equating it to Avatar: Way of Water was more of a passing comment and not an absolute statement. But as they say: Your Mileage May Vary
