Today I take a look at and react to Sunlight Alliance's video "How One Piece Was Made Will Blow Your Mind 🤯". Before I start the journey of One Piece reactions, I really wanted to learn a little bit about its creator, Eiichiro Oda.
This video was phenomenal and gave me some fantastic insight into the genius mind behind not only One Piece's creation, but also its skyrocketing success.
I hope you enjoy this reaction, and forgive the tears. That raw emotion came out of nowhere and hit me like a truck!

If you are taken in by this story, you will wish it had twice as many episodes. My best advise is just jump aboard the boat, and enjoy the adventure, don't think about catching up, you will get there sooner than you think.

So basically, oda's entire goal was: One Piece He worked under and with other Mangaka on some famous series' + personal projects until he had enough influence and experience to feel comfortable finally bringing his story to the world and presenting it in a way that would garner the interest of the mangaka publishers and public enough to make it I ought to make a video on the topic, but I actually think that some of the earlier arcs and sagas CLEARLY represent things that Oda was sorta experiencing, The heavy emphasis on dreams, etc. There's an arc called Jaya, which without spoiling, follows the success of the Alabasta Saga which is considered to be One Piece's breakthrough of sorts, The message of this Jaya arc sorta comes across as a victory lap, and a proclamation to the people that were naysayers against his dreams, And the romantics involved with FINALLY putting himself on the direct path towards accomplishing his dreams/goals

@20:06 When i was a teen in high school and discovered the One Piece manga, it was 1998. in college in the 2010s my friends and I would joke that we'd turn 40 before One Piece ended. I just turned 40 in 2023. Now I'm worried that some of my friends (who've had cancer) will actually die before we learn what the One Piece is... or that something will happen to Oda before he finishes the series. He just had to get eye surgery and is approaching 50. Still young, but holy cow. I love it's length, but we honestly do need to wrap this up in our lifetimes. I predict I will be about 46-50 when the brand new manga I fell in love with in High School actually ends. That actually makes One Piece the longest commitment of my life, and one of my greatest joys has been sailing with the straw hats, and lingering on each chapter for a solid week or more, since chapter 22 - no binging available. I really got to soak up and break down every page of detail that way. So you can watch, and should. but reading the manga is funnier and Oda is called 'GODa' for a reason, especially post-timeskip

This is such a touching insight. Thank you so much for sharing. I hope there is a satisfying conclusion. It's hard to imagine how much of the soul is wrapped up in the spirit of this story to be following it so close to its onset. I always have a hard time watching Return of the King at the part where the Hobbits return home. They've been on a life altering adventure, and it is so bittersweet watching them come back home and look around seeing how the world has gone on without them, oblivious to the hardships and experiences they went through. For a long time, and I guess I still do, that scene always reminded me of coming back to my small town in USA after living in Japan for 4 years. There's nobody to share those experiences with that would understand. Life went on for 4 years, seemingly unchanged, apart from me. So I know the ending of One Piece is going to destroy me when it gets here. But what gives me hope is that there is a community millions strong to gather around when the time comes. It's going to be, as the person Oda told the end to, BEAUTIFUL. I appreciate you taking the time to share this. I'll treasure your words as I begin my own journey! It is fully my intention to both watch and read. I imagine by the nature of watching, reacting, editing, etc. That I'll read so much farther ahead in no time!

I appreciate hearing that! But as it took someone like me to do a 60+ let's play series for Far Cry 5 for like 6 months, I imagine it'll be like that transition at the end of Saving Private Ryan, where we go from a young Noxiddar, to an elderly Noxiddar, finally giving his signature sign off on the last reaction video One last time. Haha. OR... it may be over far sooner than I want. Whichever happens, I'm glad that, even for a moment of time, you've let me be part of your own One Piece Journey!

I really, honestly do not know where I would be today had my friend not watched the revamped English dub of One Piece back in our lord 2007 as it aired on Toonami - with the speech of a certain character by which might be from arguably one of the best chapters among the first 300 of them. His mind was blown, but I just found it sorta silly at the time. In 2004, I am introduced to the series (4KIDS). It is probably one of my least favorite things I had ever seen in life by that point. But in the following year, I had gotten semi curious to it, and actually had known that what I was watching (thanks to an old "VGCats!" comic) was not a fully-authentic version of the story. Pile all these factors up, 2008, after a recovering from a falling out with him, the same friend convinces me for a whole year to get into it. It's even to the point I complain to my mom "like, wow, I think he was being a tad obsessive over that there One Piece..." only for me to, in the next year, fall absolutely in love with one of its Opening themes to the point where I'd listen to it ritualistically. Then I consume the current episodes at the time, and first 9 movies. All of this, only for it to wholly smack me right over the head when I did a binge session in spring break 2010 of the episodes that I had missed by that point & give me my very first "mind-gasm," as it were, in my entire life at the wee age of 17. Nothing's been the same for me since. Basically everything I have done from then on has some sort of relation to what One Piece made me feel.

Isn't it crazy how the more reluctant towards something we find ourselves, we equally find ourselves ardent admirers at that turning point in our lives. We'd been stretching, not unlike with the Gum Gum Devil Fruit, and the snapback is tremendous, leaving us floored and dazed. I'm so glad you found your sea legs, and thank you for sharing such an intimate recollection. That truly sounds so special. I've been currently fighting the two wolves inside myself. One wolf wants nothing more than to dive into the manga and anime and tear through it. And the other wolf that wants the patient approach, sharing every moment. Not for aspirations of fame, wealth, or power. Mostly, as a cathartic release for all the years I'd been a silent naysayer. I want to document and catalog that personal character evolution and be able to look back with fondness how my life had changed for the better. There's a tragic story to go along with this sentiment. And I'm not sure if I'll ever cover it in detail. But One Piece, and by extension the community, has pulled me from a rather dark place. So, again, I thank you for being among the many to welcome me along. It truly has been an: Unexpectedly. Emotional. Reaction.

YESSSSS omfg i will totally watch every single video HAHA Welcome aboard, dude!! ❤😊 Been reading weekly since like 2009, and this is my favorite piece of media in existence. The reward/payoff of this series is unlike anything I've really ever experieced, it keeps on giving, year after year. There really is nothing like it, I know this sounds like the most insane wank of all time, But I really don't think one piece has been appreciated for its worth until the last 4 years or so, and even then, i don't think the genius of this series will be understood by the public for even longer It keeps on growing and growing, thankfully, because 10 years ago the community was sooo small! I think the reason why one piece is so misunderstood, is due to its silly presentation, length, and contemporaries-- its peers in the industry, It has a lot to say and its ambitious beyond comprehension, in a literal generational way. I can't wait to see the ending Oda-Sensei has had in mind for the three long decades or longer he's been cooking this up, This is a man writing a story that it seems like he was put on a MISSION to craft, it's something very. Very. Special and beautiful, This story IS his life in so many ways, he lives and breathes it, the commitment he has to this story allows it to reach levels of depth and breadth that very few authors could ever muster up the energy to

@Noxiddar Jump cuts, audio scrubbing if you want less effort (pitch up and down) Use a shaped "frame" to crop the video feed, Watermark! There's a bunch of methods I've seen! I'm sure someone has put out a reaction guide for creators-- (make sure it's a recent one because I'm sure rules are always changing) It depends on the presentation! If you wanna do more raw style videos, without much editing-- then scrubbing plus watermark, opacity should be fine! :p Upload in batches of 2-3 or something manageable, perhaps! I'M SURE it's daunting especially since reacting takes extra processing power, but I'm sure when you get in the swing of things, it'll be really fun enjoying it with other people You can also do it on twitch and then upload the recordings here, edited down

12:37 Just to add a correction, One Piece was well received from the beginning. While it did of course increase in popularity over the years, it was already performing well above average from the first chapter and quickly stood out as a possible frontrunner for the magazine. The first volume sold 300,000 copies and the series reached 100 million copies in circulation in 6-7 years, the fastest ever up until then.

Oh true! Was it the video or me that said 98? If it was me, then it's definitely an operator error. If it was the video, I wonder if they referenced the OVA "Defeat Him! The Pirate Ganzack!" I have this Celtic pendant of 3 horses chasing each other in a circle to make a triskele. I like to wear it to remind myself of the philosophy I created while looking at it. The first horse is hard work. It chases the second horse: opportunity. That horse chases the third: success. I needed a visual like that to remind myself that I can't chase success. Success chases the hard work that led to the opportunities of said success. I've seen too many people burn out chasing success and doing it all backward. But I think you are certainly right! 🧡

There is a little misinformation in this video. The rumor that he had told a dying child the end of One Piece was purported by a Korean website with untrustworthy articles. I researched this a few years ago and all sources lead back to that one website alone. No official statement or official news websites or Japanese TV reported on it; pretty much only the clickbaity article websites did. That, coupled with the fact that the supposed name of the child isn't even a real Japanese name (for example "ti" can't be spelled with native Japanese characters) is much more evidence that this is only a rumor. Sadly, it is a very widespread one among the fanbase today, because it would be a thing to do that we could very much expect from Eiichirou Oda and obviously makes him look very charitable. However, what IS true, is that Oda tells the ending to everyone of his editors that work with him every few years, as well as that he had asked several other people that worked on the One Piece movies or anime if they wanted to know the ending. From what is known, everyone except his editors usually decline this question. This was confirmed through several TV interviews and written interviews or databooks by the official Shueisha publisher, Toei Animation and Shounen Jump magazine. One of the showrunners of the live action series, Matt Owens, talked on stream about Oda even testing him with the same question. Owens naturally declined. So, luckily it's still a well-kept secret today that only a select few people know of. I'm sorry for the wall of text, but I thought you might be interested in knowing this, considering you enjoy these behind-the-scenes videos. lol Not to shatter the image of the amazing person that Oda is, I still want to share a quote of him here, which shows his care for his life work and its readers: "My staff and I often go to a very noisy Japanese restaurant where a lot of people take their children. There are TVs at each table. If you go there on Sunday nights at 7:30, you'll see the children staring at the TV screens with their mouths wide open, looking silly. They're watching One Piece. When I see that, I never want to let them down." -- Eiichirou Oda, 2001

That's good to know! I'm sure there are many other such instances of misinformation, and not even just with Oda. I think, even given this new information, it doesn't do anything to dissuade the totality of my opinion of Oda. Heroes often have their feats exaggerated. While not accurate, it is certainly a badge of honor. I really appreciate the insight!

I'm glad you found me moderately coherent! I think I made the comment because I never feel confident in the moment that what I'm saying has any semblance to logic or meaning. I'm usually locked in an epic struggle between sorting through so many thoughts that they have created a chokehold in my brain trying to escape out my mouth, and the need to say SOMETHING until something comes out of my mouth. It's usually after the fact when I'm editing where I'll finally relax and say, ah yeah, that did make sense. 😄 Have you ever seen Parks and Rec? I pretty much embody Chris Pratt's character, Andy Dwyer, when he scratches his head and says, "I have no idea what I'm doing, but I know I'm doing it really well." The things going on in the real world are going to need more than my addle-brained red beard to sift through in order to make any sense! I appreciate you taking the time to comment and letting me be part of your One Piece journey as you are now part of mine!

It is definitely the downfall of any anime. I remember the first time I found out about filler arcs was the Bount arc in Bleach. Imagine my surprise when I was picking up the manga after the fact and it skipped right over it. Haha! It is absolutely my intention to at some point collect the OP box sets and review them according to their own merits. But if my younger self could live through 5 episode DBZ fillers of Goku powering up a spirit bomb or shouting to charge up, then I'm sure I'll enjoy every moment of One Piece too!
