@@diooverheaven6561 pathfinder is nice and all but... It is far from a directly enjoyable experience. There's nothing in the game that tells you how the classes are supposed to work (well, I guess there's trial and error)... I've played 3.5 so I could remember a lot, but even then, with the things I've forgotten and the things that are new, I had to search for a Pathfinder core rule book before I could know how to level up properly. So I wouldn't say it is intuitive, or that it functions as a game independently in the way BG3 does. Sure, when you're familiar with the mechanics, there's a lot you can do in terms of combat... but there's less you can do - including during combat - than with BG3 (just think the numerous shenanigans that became viral). I think this is a reflection on the differences between core systems: Taking 20 "Illusion of Choice" make a great video about this: Pathfinder ends up being more railroady than D&D even with more apparent options because, in the end, there are less ways to solve a problem and you're more heavily penalized if you're not good at the correct way to deal with it.

But this game's combat being turned based, and even being able to turn on turn-based mode at any time, allow me to play at my own pace without having to press a million buttons at the same time and worry about dying because my reaction times are too slow. And because I can play slowly, my hands also don't hurt at the end of a session, even multiple hours in. This is the first game I've been able to play in like a year without pain. Same with No Man's Sky, wich now only do updates in the game to add more cool stuff to it, so it is a bit unfair judge so harshly this to companies NOW, not saying they didn't deserve the criticism, but they DO deserve the credit for doing the RIGHT THING at the end, even WORST than a buggy mess is a company that not only get away with a bug mess, but also has the AUDACITY to tell players to "UpGrAdE yOuR pC" for the poorly optimized trash they released yes, i look at you Todd (wich basically let Red Fall die out without even care to fix it). There're like a few gripes I have with the writing in very small parts of the story, and there was like one quest that really frustrated me with bad design. The thing is that those problems came in many hours into the game and they're completely dwarfed by all the positives. Wanna know the craziest part of all this? What makes BG 3 so great HAS ALREADY BEEN IMPLEMENTED MORE THAN 20 YEARS AGO. let me explain. BG 3, thanks to its incredible voice acting and beautiful visuals has brought to the mainstream a rpg genre which over the years had become really niche (even though we saw a resurgence in the lst few years), the CRPG, or Computer RPG. Lots of players totally new to this kind of experience got their minds blown by the crazy amount of unique otucomes possible, unique interactions, and radical freedom of action. Which is beautiful thing and it makes me happy. But the core mechanics are not new. That depth of storytelling complexity was already reached with BG 2, Planescape : Torment and many other classics. The main difference? They were text based and many interactions resolved through very well written walls of text. I know it might sound atrocious if you never encountered this kind of approach, but it works surprisingly well. You forget you're reading this much after a very short while. Larian did a close to perfect job bringin the spirit of the genre back, but packaging it in an extremely catchy shell.. It feels like playing dnd with a caring dm and weird, funny dedicated friends. So my point is: what modern game industry is beginning to lack is OUTSTANDING, IMMERSIVE WRITING. Investing in large teams of dedicated, funky weird crazy writers and artists and designers and fucking explain to fhe investors that this is how you actually make something worthwile. but sadly, the more gaming studios are forced to answer to boards of investors, the less space there will be for the pure creative side of design.

I want to point out the incredible dialog writing. The dialogs are insanely good. So much drama, so incredible fleshed out characters. Did not find similar in any game yet. It is like reading a very good book -- but with great voice acting and cutscenes.
@Butelish Жыл бұрын
Just play other role playing games. Dragon Age Origin has better dialogues and that's not to mention games like BG1, BG2, Arcanum, Plainscape Torment, Fallout 1 and Fallout 2. BG3 has great dialogues, but it's not the best that was among story rpgs
@What_do_I_Think Жыл бұрын
@@Butelish I have played several of those. But I hold by my opinion. I have played DA:O very long and the story was good, but for me, BG3 is still better. It has the full package for me. I think, it is just your taste. Some can not argue about tastes, but please also respect mine, or I can not take you serious with such a flat statement you made! My taste is different and I also have seen a lot -- and about DA:O -- no game of that caliber came around in the last years, except BG3.

@@ButelishI grew up with Dragon Age Origins and have played it for probably more than a thousand hours total. I love it more than I can adequately describe in a few sentences. Baldur's Gate has at least as good dialogue if not better. Sometimes it feels like the sequel to Origins we never actually got, especially if you install some camera and movement mods to make it play like a 3rd person game

Who would guess that rpg adventure needs good story :D My problem with today games is they are dumb and boring. Mechanics are reduced to chores to artificially up game time. Stories are contrived nonsense injected with today political nonsense so even escapism part is gone. And while i am casual player this idea that game must be for everyone therefore is dumbed down to bare minimum go far. Also most aggravating thing is many games have good core but some genius with agenda who never played any game always have this great idea and blow everything. Like D4 that game is great for first play but then it fall of cliff and because they had this great idea game that was always met to be single player should be "multi player" now which means they are now stuck with mechanics and balancing for MP that people dont want. In SP you can go anything it doesent matter crazy builds, items, numbers but in MP now you must level playing field everything must be equalized nothing can be too good now you cant play game as you want but how others want and allow you. This decision will kill D4 because fixing it would require too much effort and redo too many things i give them until season 5 and game will be abadoned.
@What_do_I_Think Жыл бұрын
@@Pedgo1986 I agree with your findings about D4. Additionally I think, that the D4 devs just took the mechanics of D2 or D3 and put it partly in this game -- but did not fully understand it. So they created all those idiotic affixes, which simply destroy fun in this game. They are nothing else but distraction. The "more is better" syndrome, which creates BAD games. And yes, they will not be able to fix it, because to fix it, they would need to completely rework big parts of the game and afterwards all characters in the game would be simply broken -- start new. They won't do that.

I 100% agree with the whole video. The only thing I think there are better examples of unfinished games on launch than No Mans Sky and Cyberpunk. While both had worse launch ever, both studios are not shitty scam-corporations and after years of post-launch support both are indeed great games. So rough launch, yeah, but they didn't deserve to be on the same list as Ubi, EA, Blizzard etc.

I didn't show any interest for Baldur's Gate at first but that's because I didn't wanna bother to look it up as I was already pretty invested in another game I was loving super hard... But then I randomly stumbled with a video of someone playing a dragon kinda race and I instantly got like "fuck I MUST get that" and then it started... I can't stop thinking, can't stop playing, can't stop loving Baldur's Gate 3 for all it's worth, it was worth every single penny, the team behind such game should be proud for developing a true masterpiece midst so many big releases that dissapoint gamers due to escessive microtransactions and post launch DLC updates and all that frustrating stuff. Truly an actual raw gaming experience in plain 2023!

Almost everything about BG3 is excellent, but unfortunately it‘s also full of identity politics. The companions are a great example. The females are all martial classes, „strong women“. The males are all casters. It‘s like the game has a no-masulinuty-clause. Same goes for their personalities. The males are all timid cucks, the females are all super tough boss bitches. Totally takes me out of the immersion, feels more like a gender studies lecture than a game lol
