New Year’s Eve 9:30 PM in New Mexico. Gratitude is everything. I realized that the reason why I would get angry at my husband was not because I did so much for him and I felt like he didn’t do much for me. It was the fact that he wouldn’t write in appreciate me he didn’t even notice all of the ways that I made his life more comfortable and enjoyable it was seeing gratitude and lack of appreciation that bothered me so much. Until listening to this well, I mean, I figured it out. You know a few years back, but I’ve been married 50 years. it’s such a relief to know that that was why my problem was not feeling appreciated. Can you imagine how God feels? What do you think how we feel and then ponder on it.

One of my favorite teachers in high school used to start every class with "thank you God for where we're at, what we're doing, and who we're doing it with." Still resonates with me 9 years later :)

I need to practice gratitude. I think gratitude cancels envy. If I was thankful for what God has given me, I'd be less envious of others and what gifts God has given them.
@vanessamarquez56514 жыл бұрын
My parents kind of made me do this when I was little. Except I had to do it when ever I complained. They had me think of what was good out of something and then write down in my 'thankful journal.' If I complained I was hot, they would say "aren't you glad we have air conditioning" and I would thank God for giving me a family with air conditioning so I could escape the heat. I am so thankful for the month of tediously caring around that notebook because it changed the way I thought. The amount of joy thankfulness brought to me is immersible.

I have posted this before on this channel and I'm going to post it again: I remember several years ago one morning after feeling depressed and anxious for months, I said thank you to God with my whole heart. Then something remarkable happened. For the next 12 hours ( the rest of the day) I felt this feeling of indescribable bliss. It was total peace and joy and I was in the best mood I had ever been in. I was also completely in the present moment. It brought me to tears it was so beautiful. My mom was driving my aunt to the airport and I was in the back seat literally staring out the car window at the clouds in the sky, noticing how beautiful they were. Then I remembered that when I was a small child I felt this way all the time. Unfortunately it went away at the end of the day, but who knew a simple thank you could have such a profound effect. Later when I went to mass and I heard "it is our duty and SALVATION always and everywhere to give you thanks and praise", it dawned upon me that THIS is what happens when you are thankful to God, it literally saves your soul. I wish I could feel this way every day.

you opened your heart to God, and he came in :') that's a very beautiful consolation. i suggest praying while remembering that experience and asking God what he wants to teach you through that, how he wants to use that experience to deepen your relationship with him. he wants to give you that experience all the time, just as you'd like to experience it. that experience was a small union with God, like an image of what heaven will be like. have courage and continue marching forward in life with that gift from God as your helmet, to influence your perspective, and the rosary, as your weapon 😄

I love being around grateful people. Some people can be content with whatever it is in their life. Some people truly do not crave more. I struggle with wanting to be richer, smarter, and more beautiful. I'm so lucky in so many ways that I take for granted. I'm probably blessed in more ways than I notice. Too bad I'm so envious and covetous. It would be so sad to live my whole life miserably because I desire what others have.

@@IONov990 Hey, you've made these confessions which is great, admitting and knowing what you're at fault for. Just a kind and friendly suggestion here. Now, just simply turns to God and ask for His mercy, forgiveness, blessing, and guidance through the Holy Spirit for your daily live/routines. In no time, I'm sure you'll be feeling thankful and grateful every single day. God bless.

Father mike, I’m not Catholic but I am Christian, I’ve used drugs to cover up my depression for years, it got to the point where I was using lsd to answer my questions in life, it ended when I attempted to take my own life, since then I found god and saw his work within my life. I was an agnostic for so long and I’ve done so many bad things in my life, and I worry about what could’ve happened to my soul if I had died that night. I’m not Catholic but I went to a Catholic school I now identify as a non denominational Christian and I come to you today seeking your forgiveness and seeking gods forgiveness.

Unthankfulness and ingratitude are the fruits of humility, Fr. Mike; they are what comes out when humility is focused upon in one's life. Thus all forms of self-respect are extinguished and cruelty towards neighbor comes out in man in the process.

This proves again that so many answers are already in the Bible. Thanks for doing the Bible Podcast. This will help a lot of people and will transform not only a lot of individual people, but it will have a massive effect on their families, friends, communities and with this, we make this world a better place. Great advice as always. For me personally, practicing gratefulness is of course being thankful for what I have and what other people have (be happy seeing them happy, not gossiping about anyone). By no means it's all easy to do, but as Catholics, there's always greater fulfillment in doing it with the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
