Its introduction, the truth is not so good, which takes points away from the video. I understand that he criticizes the repetition of tropes but that will always happen even if he doesn't like it and the fact of using them doesn't make him bad, he ended up putting everyone in the same bag when it's very unfair. He also complained that in the romcom there is comedy, that is very stupid, as well as comparing the development of couples in a movie with the ones of a television series or manga, believing that everything should be done quickly and the couple has to be official in the first chapters. There are people who are very impatient and don't want things to develop I think. Some of the examples that this man avoid to talk about because according to him "are not good or not develop anything", they have good characters, tjey have their own developments and backgrounds, but no, for this person they are not enough or they are not good because they follow the "core" of which he complains so much

I just don't like it when someome criticize Komi-San as a bad anime. The romance is not the main part, it's the plot of 100 friends I'm interested. Plus, if you seen the manga, when it does cover the romance, I feel it handles it in the most original way that works for its style. Maybe your view would change when we season 3 comes in. (I hate that it's one of thoses anime where the gap of seasons is years) Plus, Tadano has become more than normal as the show went on. And Najimi is so main character material. What I'm saying is despite the huge cast, (Persona 5 is another example of huge cast work well) they feel they add to the charm more than depleting them. (Rumiko, Nakanaka, and even her brother feel like the main character of their story, so it never felt like the main character is the only focus there) Plus, I feel it's too early to judge. There's barely any true romance in the first seasons. When the show eventually does get to the actual romance in the manga, you'll see it can be capable of original flavor in romance. (P.s. Not a diss comment)

Komi overstays it's welcome. Very cool and wholesome manga at the start but it just keeps getting longer and longer for no reason. Even forcing a second romantic interest for tadano. The hate for Komi-san is justified. If you like it, good for you I guess. But the issue of the manga is still there

@@pisaschitt787 Y know, making 100 friends isn't that easy... also, every now and then, new characters are added and sometimes old characters had the spotlight. It's not only a romance but also a slice of life, it's like reading a journal about peoples you got used to know and that someday they do something and they'll tell you how they're going. Kawai isn't a forced romantic interest, literally she wasn't even a rival for Komi, she just wants to share her love with her for Tadano. Kinda crazy, you think... well, the series is full of crazy characters, what's the matter?

Every story should know how it's supposed to end, komi can't communicate sure as hell doesn't and delays it even further with pointless crap (tadano and komi kissing on screen is good tho). Rentarou from 100 girlfriends have made significant progress with currently 30 girlfriends in 187 chapters (as I write this comment) than komi with how much friend she got and her "social anxiety" within 400+ chapters. Meanwhile komi for some reason still can't talk much with those 400+ chapters. What a progress

Kaguya sama is what romance should be. It tells a love story but in a way that was never seen before in anime, every character is so three dimensional and full of life, the two protagonists don't want to confess because they don't feel worthy of the other and that is explained in a great way. And of course Kaguya is the best character in any romance anime, she has a complex personality and psyche and also a compelling development arc. I love this anime so much that I can't enjoy other romances anymore, my expectations have become too high

The best thing to see in romance anime are main characters who grow alongside their love interests. A Silent Voice is a perfect example of that. It’s just as much about their growth as people as it is about the romance elements, and that makes it land. If you try too hard to make the main character pathetic or flat so they can be a self insert character, you get Sword Art Online syndrome all over again. Granted, you may get away with it like Komi Can’t Communicate if you’re a better writer than those who wrote Sword Art Online and Future Diaries, but it still drags the shows down. It baffles me how many writers of shows forget the importance of the Character, Worldbuilding, Plot triad and drop one or two completely, or make an exception to drop proper plot or character development for their main characters. Re:Zero was a good example of how to flip that mistake. A lot of people don’t like it or watch through Season 2 because Subaru is an unlikable blank slate character that is pathetic. I stuck though with it because I identified a lot with him and didn’t see it as a problem at the time. Then season 2 hit me like a truck and as he developed as a character, I realized how much I needed to grow as a person. A main character starting as pathetic isn’t necessarily a problem, although it’s hard to hook a large audience when you do, IF you give them proper character development and give reason to those who identified with them to follow suit.

You should check out Rumbling Hearts and Nana if you’re into romance. Older, but solid anime that blends drama with romance. Nana is one of the best anime of all time imo.

And yes, I did watch Kaguya-sama, and the show was engaging. Not a single bad epsiode so far. (Finshed season 1 so far) Edit: And if you count Spy X Family as Virgin-Core, stop right there. Loid is a Spy disguised as a normal man, while Yor is an eccentric office worker who's an assassin in night. Here's what makes Loid different from the generic character formula: He WANTS to live a normal life. He's spend countless years being a spy and yet he never finds a moment of true peace. After being ordered to live a normal family life to bring national peace, he finds a new appreciation of life. He never had an opportunity to live a normal due to being a victim of war, and having an adopted daughter and a new wife brings out the parts of him that he suppressed spin his spy life. And I don't need to explain Yor, she already is the best girl.

top 3 romance animes i’ve seen (i haven’t seen much) 1. spice and wolf not sure if this counts but the romance is amazing and is alot different to most with the love interest being fully fleshed out and somehow making a pagan goddess relatable 2. my dress up darling as far as real romance goes with getting nervous and worried around your crush and the episode where she’s a succubus cosplay it uses the sexual tension for the plot rather than fan service or a gag 3. toradora it would be number 1 or 2 if not for the ending but the love square? pentagon? idek is so well made and truly feels real. give me recommendations in the comments and i’d love to hear opinions on my list

I've been enjoying all your videos so far and I am very happy to notice that there is someone who has a pretty similar taste in anime as I do! :D While I like the short and concise format, I imagine that in the future you'll start doing some in-depth analysis of series and characters, which I'm looking forward to! With regards to this video, in my case, I enjoyed Kaguya-sama, but her and Shirogane weren't the stars: those were Ishigami and Fujiwara! Best Boy had to be with Absolute Best Girl in that series, instead of having him chase after "discount Chika" aka Tsubame. I've finished the manga and won't spoil it here, but I will say it went into a direction I didn't agree upon at all! Hated Chuunibyou - I remember dropping it hard after the first 3-4 episodes of season 2. It's one of the extremely rare misses from KyoAni in an otherwise spotless catalogue of series. Ended dropping both "Nagatoro" and "Komi-san" manga since they were getting boring and repetitive. I also don't know if I'll ever finish season 2 of Uzaki-chan. Clannad is an amazing VN and I agree with anyone who says that Nagisa is NOT the best. It was extremely hard to get invested in Nagisa and the tragedy of After-story after having been shown at least 3 alternatives where Tomoya finds genuine happiness with Tomoyo, Kyou or Kotomi. All 3 are amazing in their own right, but Kyou edges it out for me and lands on top. Haven't seen "Dangers in my heart" and I imagine I'm too old to watch it at this point - my teen years are quite a way behind me to even begin to start relating to the characters. If you are a Visual Arts KEY fan, I recommend (if you have the time) you read their other masterpiece VN "Little Busters" - there is romance there, just like in Clannad. While each route is okay in terms of romance and buildup between the route's heroine and the protagonist, there is one heroine in particular that absolutely steals the spotlight every time she appears and has, IMO, the best romance story of all time. Don't bother with the anime on this one - JC Staff did an extremely poor job of adapting this story, and they absolutely butchered Kurugaya Yuiko's route, the heroine I was referring to earlier (you might have seen her - she's the girl with black hair that shatters a door with a roundhouse kick). An amazing route on its own, with an extremely unique female character, after you've discovered "The Secret of the World" and re-read her route, not only will you get the True Ending, but also get an even better understanding of why she acted the way she did with the protagonist. Him pursuing a relationship with her despite all odds, despite his friends trying to convince him to give up, is an amazing experience. In terms of recommendations, you NEED to watch "Angel Beats" - another Jun Maeda special - basically the spiritual successor to Little Busters. Everything Bakemonogatari! watch it! Start with the Kizumonogatari movies and watch it respecting the in-world chronology, not how the anime series came out. Romance is at the core of this series, and while it is extremely dialogue-heavy, it has some of the best and most complex characters and character interactions ever! Bunnygirl-senpai is basically the Bakemonogatari mom says you already have at home. Nana! A classic and a legend in terms of mature storytelling and a mature/almost realistic approach to romance. "Love is hard for an otaku" is also a light and digestible romance where, just like in Kaguya-sama, the side-couple steals the show. And finally "The world god only knows" - a really sweet series with a nice spin on romance. If you've already mentioned some of the recommendations above in your previous videos, I apologize, but I watch quite a lot of anime content on youtube and it's hard to keep track :D

Dangers in my heart is epic. I binged it in 2 days a few months ago as well. Haven't read the manga yet because I am hopeful for a 3rd season. I tried but the manga just doesn't hit the same. The animation, music and just looking at them hug just gives me this warm awesome feeling that the manga didn't! So I didn't read further than the anime. P.S. Insomniacs After School and My Love Story with Yamada at Lv999 aired the same season as the first season of Dangers in My Heart, and I liked them all just as much. that was peak romance that season. oh and My Clueless First Friend with the elementary school pre-romance was just adorable. like, they're right on the verge of middle school and adolescence but not quite there, but there's something forming. it also has a bit of a therapeutic feeling for anyone who's been bullied, as the boy saves the girl from social ostracism and loneliness through relentless positivity and shocking levels of verbal jiujitsu.

For me gimai seikatsu (airing in this season) its the best romance in this year. The interaction between the protagonists is so good that it feels very natural and real, plus the direction it has its amazing, and it doesnt fall into the typical clichés of most romances, for example, there is no male protagonist blushing because of any nonsense thing or there isnt a girl who hits him for any stupid reason, without a doubt, its one of the best animes of the season (best for me) and one of the best of the year.

Also would like to mention: Insomniacs after school, Skip and Loafer, A silent Voice, My Happy Marriage and for yuri: The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady, Bloom into you (need more good yuri shows >:c). I think they are all great romance animes/manga/LN. From the current season my personal favorite is Senpai is an Otokonoko, though I have not read the manga so it's too early for me to tell and it's probably for a really niche audience ... I still need to watch Makeine and Pseudo Harem so I have no knowledge on them, just seeing they have a good scoring? (will watch before end of season). Kaguya sama and Dangers in my heart are still peak!

Ain’t about to let the Nagatoro slander slide. Not gonna lie, its start is not gonna pull you in (unless you’re into the bullying) and I know it turns a lot of people off to it. You think man is she just gonna bully this loser the entire time? This show is only for people who are into that! Nah. If you watch further into season 2 or even read the manga, you realize it has very subtle character development for both Nagatoro and Senpai. Senpai literally transforms into a chad throughout and stops putting up with her bs. She still bugs him but it changes from bullying to a more affectionate kind of teasing. What follows is a really wholesome blossoming romance between the two which is very cute. They also give each other motivation to accomplish their dreams which is very sweet. Heck I’d go to say Nagatoro is one of the best romance manga out there as it has some of the best pacing I’ve seen in the genre.

I think that while kaguya-sama love is war is good, I would not put it in the "best" category. At least in terms of romance. If we're talking about comedy maybe yes.

The romance anime this year has been pretty damn good but I do agree with the video overall. 1. Dangers in My Heart is a great romance that only focuses on developing its lead, no love-triangle, supporting cast(kinda weak imo) is used to develop the leads, and both leads are well-written and the romance was not drawn-out. production value is great aswell. Makeine - Right now my pick for AotY contender, an anime that is not afraid of going back to the roots of classic romance anime that expertly uses the tropes of its genre and focuses on developing its characters first before making them potential love interests for the mc. Its doing this so well to the point that there are a large amount of people that think this anime isn't a romance because the author cares to develop the love interests beyond just being choices for the MC, in harem anime the bar is in hell for this and most still don't bother. Production value is phenomenal and comedy consistently lands.
