Totally agree! It makes me think of the old days of Hollywood when there were few to no child labour laws for the entertainment industry. The sort of things that were allowed to happen for the sake of making movie were absolutely horrifying. Even as recently as the making of The Exorcist. In that film Linda Blair (14 at the time) was made to smoke and drink alcohol in order to make her voice sound demonic. Its like...how is that ok to harm a child's health for a movie? I'm sure KZbin parents are doing questionable things behind the scenes---though probably not as extreme as making their kids drink or smoke.

Teaching a course on how to get started on KZbin, (what kind of camera to use, what editing software to use, how to make thumbnails and catchy video titles, etc.), would have been a much more realistic and honest business idea. Lots of young people want to try making online content but don't really know where to start, and I'm sure lots of people would be excited to learn the basics from a highly successful youtuber like Austin. But this promise of being able to turn his young fans into millionaires and internet stars is just so exploitative and downright mean spirited. Nobody can guarantee internet success, because so much of who/what becomes popular online is up to chance and often changes rapidly. I feel genuinely sad for the kids who signed up for his course because they dream of being a youtube star like him, because they are probably too young to realize how unrealistic his promises are.
