For what reason now? Besides, the Jedi completely eschewing attachments, and more problematic, the emotions that lead to them, were exactly the reason for Anakin's downfall. If the Order wasn't so stuck in their dogmatic ways by the point of the prequels and had instead taught their members to embrace emotions, especially positive ones like love, while also teaching them healthy ways of dealing with the negative emotions that can come from those attachments - jealousy, greed, fear of loss, etc - Anakin would probably have been fine. But he had no one to turn to - or at least he felt like he couldn't - and was taught no other way of dealing with his issues other than "Well, just cut yourself off from your emotions and make sure you never have them again in the first place", basically.

The exception of this channel is very telling about how incredibly bad the whole show is. I'm not even bothered by new movement ideologies, if it's done right no one complains (check Fallout with Lucy and Maximus). Some that call themselves as anti-woke will get anything they can work with to badmouth a show, they even tried to do so with Fallout at the start, but ultimately folded. This show though...how are we going to critique without doing any mentions to writing and overall quality? It's impossible to not compare to other SW movies and shows, and look at this one and feel that some elements could have been done much better. Negativity sells well. This entire episode brings me so much memories of the SWTOR trailer of force twins who are born into royalty, both are dark siders but the one in black is light sided whilst the one in white became corrupted with rage when the father pits them against each other in a competition on who gains the throne. I think they are trying really hard to give Palatine's return context in the Rise of Skywalker. I've heard people mention that Mae and Osha were the dyad in the force that Palps was talking about that was unseen for generations, but there were some other lines that he said like "with your hatred you will take my life and you will ascend" so interesting that this ritual is called the Ascension. Also, I found it interesting how with the witches they start with the power of one, the power of two, and then the power of many. Palps starts with the power of many (all the sith live in him), and then he literally says the power of two restores the one true emperor to Kylo and Rey. When Master Indara recognizes Mae in the first episode she says "What are you doing here?" and Tommen says "I've been waiting for you Mae." Why were they not surprised that she was alive? I definitely think Mother Koril has something to do with all this. Maybe she summoned the sith who helped create the sisters to go after the Jedi. Tommen was possessed by the dark side (like Mae from the vision), he clearly had some recurring issues because somehow in the six years following that incident he become a master and then took the vow just to wake up 10 years later to kill himself..."we thought we were doing the right thing" cannot just be referring to them separating Osha and Mae. Lots of questions...

I think they need to take in account details that they miss when they're looking down writing things. They miss certain looks or things in the background and nuances people would normally spot when they're watching not reacting and trying to write down info. New Rockstars points a lot of things out that normal reaction channels missed in this episode. Like none of these guys questioned that May appears out of nowhere and says that she would kill her sister to stop her from leaving.? No one realizes that they're on a planet with a bunch of mind controlling witches and jedi? I thought the child acting was fine. If you look in the background during the ascension ritual, there are two hooded figures standing on each side of Mother Aniseya. They look similar to the witch-guards, but they don't have the bows or any sort of weaponry. Also, you can't see their faces even under the hood -- its all black. They do not participate in the ritual, they do no chants and they don't wave their hands around. They're just watching. And when the Jedi arrive, they look around and then disappear -- they do not follow the rest of the witches. I feel like they could be the two Sith. Probably would explain how the twins came to be (some dark side experimenting with the Sith -- which would explain where Plagueis got it from). The witches could be in league with them. Once the Jedi learned of the immaculate conception, I feel they would be very reluctant to leave since they would believe one of the twins could be the chosen one from the prophecy.

The only theory I can see that makes everyone's actions and character make sense: Indara is the bad Jedi and her padewan Torbin was following her commands in killing all the witches, enforcing a Jedi monopoly on the force. Sol doesnt know. The wookie is upset about the tragedy their interference caused, but doesn't know Indara and Torbin killed everyone. Sol taking in Osha was not Indara's idea. Osha was supposed to die with the others but after Sol saved her it was too suspicious to stop him him since that was their ostensible goal. Indara considers Osha an abomination and worked to make sure she would never be accepted as a Jedi knight.

Also, on the planet Tython the Jediiha would meditate on the two moons Ashla which representative the light side of the force and the Bogan which representative of the dark side of the force. That's not how it is nor how the Jedi and Sith are portrayed. The Jedi are meant to follow the will of the force, when they stray from it, that's how the order falls. Fair. I enjoyed the episode but I can see why some people wouldn't. Mostly I am curious what the "real story" is; it doesn't seem like the fire Mae started could have killed everyone, but whether it was the Jedi as a monolith or someone specific pitting the Jedi against the Witches, I don't know.

I love Sol in this ep. Watching a second time with the crew, while I believe he has honest and good intentions, i can completely believe how someone could watch him talk to Osha and just see a Jedi trying take a child in a negative light.

Sooooooo... Takeaways from this episode. Mae was a psychopath long before the Jedi appear in her life. Both the witches and the Jedi are fine with manipulating children, although with the Jedi there is at least the illusion of choice. Leaving a cult is *hard* , especially when they don't want you to. It really doesn't take much to push Mae to sororicide. The Jedi don't actually have a problem with an 8 year old joining them, or they wouldn't bother to come and test the girls and offer them spots (tbf, given the complaints a century later, it may be because of the experience with these two). Stone burns (who knew?). For some reason the witches had their entire complex wired for detonation? I guess its a handy last resort, though strangely short-sighted... I'm aware they're aiming for Rashomon here. I assume there will be at least one more like this to try and make sense of it. Just don't trust they'll be able to pull it off given the very odd handling of everything presented in this one. My housemate and I spent quite a while trying to work out why it left us cold (and only this one, we liked the first two), and it kept coming back to odd, weird, confusing, and strangely nonsensical. Telling stories from different points of view actually don't want these qualities, it makes them hard to understand. Here's hoping it was an aberration and the writing goes back to being a little clearer...

@bowdennthani732 nonsensical for an example is jedi not using there weapons when confronting enemies and lack of using the force to restrain said suspects and arresting the person using the force. You had one jedi master, one jedi knight and a padawan and a failed padawan against one girl and she escapes there custody by dirt cloud really in a convenient way also. The constant telling the audience what the character is thinking always. Like the dialog either explains what we already know and the need for characters to say nothing to back up their claims and beliefs. Nope pointless action scenes are constant thrown in these shows except andor and rogue one. Which are the closest to star wars shows we've had besides the clone wars etc. I know people want to enjoy a show I get that but like it gets to the point of just dangling keys in front of our faces and saying remember star wars. Also stones catche fire? And somehow kills everyone like really. And instead of the twins running away from the place and maybe staring at the destruction or something maybe even have some character development nope we are going to argue from right on a catwalk that is collapsing really.the jedi master mind you could have used the force like we have seen. Also how is it that a girl could kill a jedi freaking master with stupid parlor tricks are you kidding me. Also when they came to arrest her in episode 1. I'm like how did she travel all the way across the edge of the galaxy to kill a jedi master "last night" then somehow teleport back to her job as a mechanic. Make it make sense. Cmon man if you think that ohh they will explain. they won't. They make jedi weak and just stupid even though there supposedly powerful. It took the clone wars to kill jedi effectively and now it takes some girl with knifes against a lightsaber. Also you can die from a knife attack but not a lightsaber to the body. Really

Just because one thing has been said once, doesn't mean there can't be more to it. I personally liked the episode, I don't think it destroyed the lore, just added a few to it, and even then, we still don't know everything, by FAR.

This episode had some flaws (chant was cringe, “what have you done?” X3) but unlike BOBF and Kenobi at least this show has me engaged in the larger mystery (who is the master / what really happened on Brendok?) rather than being key jangling cameo slop. I like that we’re also seeing new scenarios like what happens if parents don’t want their kids to go with the Jedi. I’m withholding judgement until I see where the show lands with all this. It’s no Andor, but it’s too early to tell if it’s a flop imo. Star Wars has always had some cringe next to the good stuff, so we gotta see if the payoff is good

People yelling about how this somehow invalidates anakin: it doesn’t. Anakin was created by The Force itself as a response to Plagueis/Sideous trying to dominate with the dark side. A human using a technique we don’t even have the details for yet to create life is not the same as immaculate conception by the religious force of this universe. Also maybe this tale tells us why the Jedi refused to train a 9 year old in 100 years, I dunno that Osha being 8 breaks stuff yet. There are people saying that this chapter takes away Anakin's Specialness, but NO, Osha and Mae were made voluntarily by Someone through the force without a very broad purpose, Anakin was created by The Force itself, as an attempt to bring balance, In both there is no father, but in different ways, by different forces, with different potentials and for different purposes, Osha and Mae do not take away what is special from Anakin What made Anakin special is his actions and his potential, not how he was created.

One thing I try to point out is the difference of Anakin and the twins. He was all powerful without even trying. Mae has shown to have ability but not raw power, and Osha has barely any connection. Plus, we don’t even know if they were actually created from the force or by some outlawed method.

My theory is that Sol is a Sith Lord in disguise. He made a pact with Mother Aniseya to create powerful twins. He led the Jedi to Bendack to recruit kids that normally would be too old. He caused Korli and the witches and Jedi to turn against one another. He knew Mae had started the fire. How? Because he used mind trick on Mae. He killed all the witches and blamed Mae. He then manipulated Osha so she trusts him (like Palp and Anakin), and controls Mae as her Master to kill Jedi in the present. Who deleted the fact that Osha had a sister from her file? The show started with “your eyes can deceive you.” Sol is not who he pretends to be.

In Clone Wars, we saw the Separatists’ perspective about the so called “good” Jedi. So no, the good guys are shown to be evil too. Here, I just noticed Sol lied about how he met Osha. He told his Padawan he was stationed on Brendack. He wasn’t, he convinced other Jedi to go to this empty planet to retrieve 8 yo kids already attached to their family. Why wasn’t he interested in Mae at all when she seems more powerful with the Force? How could Indara think that separating 8 year-old twins would be a good thing and that they should train Osha with the Force at all?

Was referring to Disney era live action shows. Clone wars still had Lucas' finger. Different stuff (for the good and bad). There is nuance in SW. But ever since Mandalorian it has been a bit downhill (with Andor being the saving grace). About your questions, they're good, but I have my doubts if we'll ever get there. I f'n LOVE, and I say this wholeheartedly, how Eric doesn't really critique Star Wars. Whenever something comes out, no matter how controversial to the lore, he just absorbs it, contextualizes it with comments about previous Star Wars installments, and adds it to his knowledge. Cause it's HIS story, HIS franchise. I'm the same way with Doctor Who. No matter how different, or sometimes even BAD, I'll always find a way to fit it into my headcanon. Cause it's my baby. So the jedi heard there were "chosen one" fatherless force users, to them thats a prophecy fulfilled? Problem is they are witches and have personal connections like Anakin did. So to solve that problem they just kill everyone that Osha cares about... no more personal feelings to get in the way. But the thing is that these children weren't "fatherless" the same way Anakin was. The twins were proactively created by this Mother Aniseya, through some kind of maigcks or something similar to Sith Alchemy or the same way of manipulating the Force that Plagueis was doing and planted in Mother Koril's womb. Basically a force-driven artifical insemination. Whereas Anakin, for all we know, was not just created with the Force, but BY the Force. Anakin is a direct result of the Will of the Force and it's strive for balance. Which is also why i don't understand all the haters thinking that these twins take away from Anakin and his birth being special.

For all we know, the Jedi know nothing about the actual circumstances of the twins' birth and are really just there because a) it's their right to test force-sensitive children, b) the witches are seen as a Dark Side Cult that c) trains children outside of what Republic Laws allow. Plus, yes, the children are about as old as Anakin. But we also know that the Jedi of the High Republic are a lot more open in their interpretation of the Jedi Code and they are nowhere near as dogmatic as the Jedi of the Republic's twighlight years. And also, yeah. as i said, so far we don't really know why the Jedi sought the witches out. 4 Jedi to pick up two girls? There's definitely more to this than we know so far. Although i don't think that the girls are just an excuse, i do get the feeling that Indara would definitely have been happy to have a reason to take them down. We'll see as the series progresses.

Pointed out that in the circle of the mark is the yin and Yang symbol. Jedi acknowledged the need for balance in the force but their attitude was to destroy what they perceived to be darkness. By doing that they in fact caused the vitriol of those forces. By their actions they lost the balance of the force which is why we here that Anakin could restore it. Hence we saw the broken statue of the sister on Ashoka. Really interesting stuff.

What a lot of people who claim the Jedi kidnap children forget/ignore is that the Jedi only take those children whose parents consented to it. In some parts of the galaxy, it's seen as a great honor for a child to be taken by the Jedi, providing the child with a better life. I've also been seeing a lot of people comment about the Jedi being the ones to wipe out the coven, but I'm still not inclined to that theory, although I suspect that's the direction the show will take. I think that Mae's new master (ie the Sith) killed the witches and framed it in a way to convince Mae that the Jedi did it so that she would grow a deep hatred and become a Sith Assassin. If that's the case, then Mae would not be the first person the Sith manipulated into hating and even killing Jedi.

So Mae tried to kill Osha but how would she destroy the whole place? Plus the injuries on the Jedi. Considering the revelation about how Mother Anisheya used the Force to make Mother Koril pregnant with the twins i suspect some Sith fuckery happened in the place to pit the Jedi against the Witches coven. Hence why Torbin felt so guilty that he killed himself and Kelnacca became a hermit. Let's not forget according to Sidious, Darth Plagueis knew how to use the Force to create life. So maybe he learned from the Witches or they learned from him. Guess we will have another flashback. Perhaps showing things from Sol's point of view or Mae's or maybe even from the Sith's.

My latest theory: Aniseya was telling the truth, but lying by omission. Mae and Osha have no father because they’re both clones of her. Magically made rather than scientifically, but still clones. Compared to Anakin, who got a Y chromosome from the Force somehow.

Im assuming the witches died by the 3 jedi poisoning their water supply with bunta, Thats why torbin takes the poison cause it was karma for what he did. i think they all went behind sols back to do this, they definitely disabled the reactor, and sol definitely seemed to know his way through the castle, but i doubt he had the same murderous inclinations as the rest of the jedi.

The writing in this episode leaves A LOT to be desired the pacing, dialogue, acting is not it and "I created them" better be explained at some point cos I'll be pissed if there were force created beings before anakin

Really felt the Rashomon influence in this ep with Osha as an unreliable narrator at the end. And I loved seeing a new force sect and their different beliefs, morality, and customs. Really an emotional, powerful episode. I feel bad for the haters - especially the dummies who wrongly believe this ep somehow affects Anakin’s story. Thanks for being a positive force for good in the fandom, guys!

I remember some people saying "oh the show moves away from Lucas' vision of the Force" but of course it does. This episode is all about a coven. It's not like the show is entirely rewriting the force or throwing the ideas in the trash, but just showing a different viewing of it. @@jasonmarbach One thing I noticed when Mae and Osha fall off the walkway is that Sol first runs up with his left hand up as if to catch Mae, then in the next cut his right hand is out to catch Osha. Could just be a slight continuity error, or he tried at first to save Mae and maybe let her "die" to instead save Osha. The discrepancy could be due to Osha's memory being altered (or just trauma). Whatever the case, I'm enjoying the show so we'll see in the end what's up with this mystery.
