About the "thirst trap" controversy. I am OK with media sexualising men as long as they don't attack other media for sexualising women. I just hate hypocrisy. Either it's OK to sexualise actors for views, or it isn't. We did it plenty in the 80s with actors like Arnold Schwarzenegger, I thought it was fine then, and we also sexualised female actors. But at some point, people started pushing back on sexualising females but not males.

As a gay Asian American, I'm not sure if this is the kind of representation I really want on screen from Disney and Star Wars. Portraying us Asian men as either de-sexualized monks or sex objects with cool martial arts abilities but two-faced manipulative personalities is just more of the same crap that Hollywood has been giving us for decades, just wrapped in a shinier, partially naked, gym-fit bow. I wish they could focus on presenting us with characters who have compelling and enjoyable personalities and moments rather than guys who fulfill a certain aesthetic of attractiveness.

@@schildkroete As an Irish-Scottish person, I'm not a big fan of my cultures being religated to just drinking and fighting in media, but I'm okay with both men and women from my culture being sexulised as long as everything is equal. I think you can sexualise a character and still have them be a good, well developed character. I think the anime industry does that well, for both male and female characters. E.g. Nami from One Peace and Sung Jin Woo from Solo Leveling. (I know the original novel and manwa was Korean and not Japanese but I still class it as anime as it was made by a Japanese studio.)

Ryan George is awesome! Yes, the did NOT have a lot to tell because there was no theme. There's no key message or Point the show is trying to make. ANDOR has a very clear Theme: "What does it take to become a Rebel?" The Star Wars trilogies 1to6 have the Theme and variations on it of "What is the proper way of living, in harmony with the galaxy or through power and tyranny?" What's The Açolyte's Theme? "Men are stupid and Bad is Good?"

Kathleen Kennedy's contract is up this month. Unfortunately, Lucasfilm is full of woke activists, so firing her won't do anything. You'd have to do an Elon Musk Twitter cleansing and literally fire pretty much everyone if Disney want to have any chance of turning this franchise around. Even now, the premise of the show states that it's about a respected Jedi Master investigating a series of crimes that bring him into contact with a former Padawan learner and reveal sinister forces. No, that's not what the show is about. He knows who's killing the Jedi at the end of the first episode. It's basically a manhunt for Mae, who isn't even that big of a threat. She can throw knives and can force push, whoop-de-whoop. Qimir was the real threat, and he didn't show up until episode 5, in an 8 episode season. Osha and Mae were boring characters, whose motivations flip-flopped so often, that I couldn't believe what I was seeing. The only character's whose goals and motivations were clear, were Master Sol, and Qimir. Everyone else was window dressing.

You hit it right there Achara. Make it a mini-mini series. That's what they should have been doing. Find people who has a interesting idea and some experience writing/directing and give them $15 million and make 10 direct to D+ Star Wars movies a year. Use the same crew, the volume etc. just swap out the idea people. Like Visions but live action and make them movie length. Then if something is actually good and it gets views, then you spend the $200 million on that one.

The Star Wars fans' complaints were never about doing something new within the franchise's universe. Other Star Wars series were very well received by the public, such as the first two seasons of The Mandalorian and Andor. However, The Acolyte never set out to explore the franchise's Canon, but to change everything that is represented in the first 6 original Star Wars films. Although Star Wars is a work of fiction, it is a work that has millions of fans all over the world. Now, aren't Hollywood film studios part of the free-market economy? What's the point of the studio financing a film or series that costs 200 million dollars if it won't bring a return? Since when is loss the new success? Wouldn't it be better to meet the wishes of millions of fans and profit from it? And what's more, leave a legacy of sympathy with these millions of fans for future releases? The Acolyte cost 220 million dollars, and brought Disney's streaming services fewer views than Willow. In other words, an unprecedented loss. The Acolyte has a mediocre script, the story doesn't develop and fails to connect with the viewer. The story is poor and full of plot holes. The plot is tiresome and repetitive. The special effects, for a series worth 220 million dollars, are far below the Star Wars standard. The interpretation of some actors through their characters is terrible. The setting of the episodes, except for the first episode, is the work of an amateur studio. And to tie it all together, there is the Woke seal, in which the series exists only to advertise this postmodern ideology. Final score: 3.

Also one very important factor needs to be considered. The time of the Republic with Obi Wan and Anakin and leading into the Clone Wars was the Jefi's "weakest" point in terms of how collwctively powerful they were. Sidius being right under their noses and operating with impunity actively took away from their power. He threw the Jedi into chaos. There's no Sith Lord here doing that. EVERY SINGLE JEDI should be a great deal more powerful and impressive than Obi Wan or Anakin. Sol not being able to hold TWO small children???? Extremely unlikely. He should have been able to not only save both, but Force Yeet them right at his side.

I could barely make it through episode one. How many tween leads must there be in films nowadays? This trend is totally driven by consultants who think kiddie-led movies are what the audience wants. News flash: no. For me, the protagonist in the Acolyte is annoying and boring. Nothing against the actress. It's more of a slam against the writers, producers, and the studio for spewing out yet another factory made series to try and cash in on the SW brand. Put some effort into the story and stop with using kids as the leads.

Your opinion is entirely valid, but I think the main character was probably the best part (probably due to the main actress doing a great job). I’m with you on the writing though… i almost wish we didn’t know what happened in the past lol. They built up so much momentum just to drop the ball, setting everything on misunderstandings. All that being said, please watch a show in full before having an opinion. Don’t just watch one episode.

Jaby was correct, he’s a guy that gets his shirt off for no reason. It’s completely pointless and had no relevance, neither did the entire show apparently haha 😂

The issue about the nudity scene is that it is out of lore, breaking immersion. Palpatine never undressed to seduce Anakin Skywalker, so why is it part of the world building, other than 'Shoot to Midnight' identity by sexuality self-insertion ?... Gender politics was the entire plot - not some mystery...

Actually it didn't do any good and season 2 is not happening. The actual viewership is the lowest of any star wars TV shows. It is sad die hard fans cannot believe that it failed. Too much woke haha.
