I think people do want quality, relatable characters that change, and universal ideas. Proponents, like myself, think it should be given time to to get there like TV darlings of old. Just go back and watch the first seasons of a lot of beloved shows like The Office or Parks and Rec. It needed time to cook! On that point, you're so right about pilots. We could've gotten some of that "cook time" out of a solid pilot and setting the appropriate tone. You've got a great point about the budget, too. They spent so much money, but, like, where??? The dollar amount cited didn't to turn into a better show. I guess it could be set design, costumes, and make-up? Who knows? I don't see it outside of some pretty exceptional action choreo. While I think The Acolyte could benefit from another season or two, I'm not defending the show. I thought it was only fine. The average piece of art is of average quality. But it's not as bad as people said it was and it was subject to "vitriol" years before premiere. I'm not going to pretend like the Fandom Menace wasn't a problem because the show was flawed. It sucks that people wouldn't denounce the kind of hatred that came from people pretending to "just asking question." You're a real jewel in the nerd spaces, I think! You don't have an agenda beyond appraising and appreciating the art. Your constant levelheadedness, even when passionate, is why I keep coming back.
