This probably doesn't count and I'm probably wasting time by even typing this comment, but we have seen discrimination in the Star Wars the Old Republic (SWTOR) game from 2011. Most of the time it's between different sentient species. - The Hutts discriminate against the Evocii who's planet they took over after the Hutts' own world suffered irreversible environmental damage. The Hutts literally stole their land, wiped out a lot of their people and put them in low esteem jobs, if they can find work at all. - There's a lore entry on the planet Taris that, to basically oversimply: Taris suffered a massive famine which especially took a toll on the lower classes who, after being pushed to the brink rebelled against the nobility on Taris. The rebellion was quickly crushed and since many of the rebellion's leaders were non-human immigrants, the Tarisian (Republic) government passed a series of anti-alien laws which restricted where aliens could go and barred them from high level jobs. And to top it all off, Republic historians later gloss over this when covering their history. - On Voss there are clashes between the Voss and Gormak species who (spoiler, I guess) are actually the same people or at least a common ancestor. - And perhaps the most obvious example is the Sith Empire which is incredibly xenophobic. Many human imperial officers repeatedly refer to aliens regardless of context as primitive, cursed or some other negative description. One Sith lord Darth Baras when trying to track down a Jedi asks "Is she human or one of the Jedi's cursed aliens?" Heck, the most powerful class of people in the Sith Empire are literally called Sith pure bloods and there's even a Flashpoint mission involving one of these Sith purebloods (Darth Ikoral for those curious) who tries to "cleanse" the Empire of aliens. I'm sure a bunch of people will probably reply to this saying stuff like "it's a non-canon game it doesn't count" or something like that but I'm sharing it anyway.
@ian-flanagan5 ай бұрын
Yeh, I think it's more a question of: should Star Wars be tackling discrimination? Of course discrimination happens; it's almost an unavoidable result of species that exist due to evolution / survival of the fittest, so if you're ever expanding Star Wars storytelling ("mining" the brand), you'll eventually hit it. But that doesn't make it a good topic for a Star Wars story. E.g. People and aliens have sex too, but that's not really a suitable topic. Discrimination is a bit more open to personal preference, but Disney should have foreseen that many fans would not really be interested in that. (Same goes for "there is no good an evil")
@cylonmode5 ай бұрын
Its a non canon game besides none of those examples involve Jedi.
@GoobNation5 ай бұрын
Yeah discrimination is a big part of star wars but in the context od tge videothere hasn't been any discrimination on sexuality. Probably due to such a huge galaxy would probably have a lot of different cultures with different sexual behaviors. Plus in the EU hutts are hermaphrodites so having a powerful group with a flexible sexuality would probably help normalize other sexualities. The point is that there is no reason to suspect that the witches were discriminated for anything other than their use of the dark side. I mean look at any news regarding high republic books and you'll find stories with gay/lesbian jedi
@GoobNation5 ай бұрын
@@ian-flanaganthe original 6 movies were more subtle but definitely hinted at discrimination being widespread. Even the clone wars show had many story lines about slavery and the treatment of other species which was pretty interesting. @spartan117zm5 ай бұрын
@@GoobNationthat’s probably true but ultimately it comes down to how it’s written, and you hit the nail on the head: the Lucas stories covered it in a more elegant way, Disney however has writers that feel they have to literally spell out 2+2=4. No this episode in a way breaks the show (for now and for me) not due to lore but to plot. The whole reason why evil twin is going after the Jedi is because the Jedi did something bad AND this episode was made to frame the Jedi as evil and hence why Leslie here was going after the whole “let’s paint the Jedi in a lesser friendly view” but in reality, it’s these witches who are the bad ones by preventing good twin from joining the Jedi on her free will. But the Jedi are the more rationale choice of the story because the reason why the witches left to live here was because the “galaxy aren’t friendly to us”, well why wouldn’t you let a member of your clan to join a prestigious organization that is held high by BILLIONS OF PEOPLE?! And evil twin is in a way the consequence of raising a child with (in a way) lies that the whole world is ought to get them and hence it should be bad towards everyone and her sister who wants to engage with people. So this episode is bad, idk where it’s neither bad or good unless you’re talking about the lore

They require that crass stupidities shall not be played upon the reader/listener/viewer/player as sound investigation and/or threat-neutralization procedures. But this rule is shot with a DL-44 blaster in the _Acolyte_ tale. They require that the personages of a tale shall confine themselves to possibilities and let miracles alone; or, if they venture a miracle, the author must so plausibly set it forth as to make it look possible and reasonable. But this rule is sacrificed to Yun-Yuuzhan in the _Acolyte_ tale. They require that the characters in a tale shall be so clearly defined that the reader/listener/viewer/player can tell beforehand what each will do in a given emergency. @@E_T_31 it’s been described as a “crucial” episode and I would assume due to that description, it has all the perspectives as we also see how both twins interact AND how the people around them besides the Jedi so I can’t be easily swayed as “oh it’s someone’s perspective of events”. Why wait then for a cliché story element if the word “crucial” is being thrown around? By the way, how can we have tornbins perspective when he’s dead? The witches here as I stated on my comments have showed to be hostile so if we were to suddenly showed a scene of the Jedi attacking the witches without provocation…. Why wait for a dramatic revelation when this whole episode was about backstory and it was banking on the idea that here everything will be revealed to understand the show or the plot… but by you saying “oh we haven’t seen all perspectives” it’s like pulling the rug out of our feet and rendering the whole episode just redundant and pointless. It also happens to be the side of his face that is scarred/has a dead eye when he is older. This may explain why Kelnaca is no longer with the order, and Torbin does something after or before his fight with Kelnaca which causes him to have regrets and take the barash vow/kill himself.

I've got a Star Wars Story for ya.... A long time ago I left my Star Wars figure collection in my mum's garden shed. It was the original stuff including the Falcon, AT-ATs, Jawas with cotton cloaks, over 300 figures (I let my nieces play with them so most of the guns had gone missing but there must have been £2,000 worth of plastic stored in that shed). Well, my mum is old and bedbound now and the landlord sent guys round to dismantle the shed and cut down some trees. My Star Wars collection disappeared with the shed. If this had happened just ten years ago I would have been devastated and felt like someone had stolen my childhood to sell it on e-bay. When I went to see her and was told how much more light the house was getting after getting rid of the trees and the shed, I realised I didn't care anymore. Those figures that had been my main interest as a child; that I had refused to sell despite being poor and hungery at times; that I had insisted my folks drag around with them from house to house for 45 years, meant less to me then the motes caught in the light of the bedroom window. So thank you The Acolyte; The Last Jedi; Book of Boba Fett for making me not care anymore. (and screw you Andor for giving me a new hope)

I actually just sold my entire Star Wars collection that I began in 1977/78 when the original toys came out. I thought I'd be sad, but I'm not. It wasn't about the money. It was just taking up space and I really don't care anymore. The memories of my childhood playing with them are what is important to me. My love of George's 6 movies won't change because of the crap that is released now. I have basically just decided that everything except Rogue One and Andor are happening in an alternate star wars universe that I am able to easily ignore. The story telling now is just awful.

Leslye is just a symptom of a much larger problem. Disney needs to fire KK first. Honestly, all the leadership at Disney and Star Wars need to be gone. I wish the board would come to a decision and fire all of the executives. Even if they did that, Star Wars wouldn’t magically be fixed. Star Wars needs a complete reset. They need to throw out everything Disney has done and start from scratch. They should take some notes from the EU and follow some of those stories. Even then, I’m not sure there’s anything that Disney could do to save the franchise. I genuinely think that Disney should sell the franchise off to somebody who cares and would listen to the fans. The only way this franchise can be fixed or saved is if a new company takes over.

Hey Thor, I’m 99% sure most of this episode’s end is what the Jedi told Osha, and the twist will be that the Jedi did slaughter these witches and were there to take the children - because they were looking for the chosen one. These horrific events will push the Jedi 100 years from now away from perusing the prophecy - and correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t Qui-Gon Jin among the only Jedi even remotely interested in it at the time? Almost as if it got them in so much trouble internally that it was best for the order to simply avoid the idea altogether. And this is all really dumb, of course and totally world breaking. Maybe I’m wrong - would love to hear your thoughts!

Also for what it's worth, when Osha escapes from her room, she looks up at some grate where she can hear some gasps - I assume that's the witches being slaughtered (though it doesn't really sound like that). @Kevin_Street5 ай бұрын
I didn't love the episode, and I'm definitely not a fan of this show. But the third episode did exceed my low expectations, so it was a slightly pleasant surprise. And think I have a few answers for points you raised: Osha's story is definitely supposed to be reminiscent of Anakin's. I don't know if she was created by midiclorians or anything, but narratively Osha occupies a similar position. She's currently powerless but has great potential in the force (seen as a miracle by the witches), and the force has inspired her to dream of greater things, despite her environment offering no hope of escape. Then a wise Jedi (Sol) appears, who sees her potential and takes her away. I don't think the Jedi are really sure why they're on the planet. The force told them to go and they went. When they arrived they discovered the little colony of witches and assumed that was the reason for their presence. If the witches tell them to leave the Jedi won't just go away because the will of the force brought them there. As a force sensitive herself, Mother Aniseya understands that this situation has metaphysical complications and she can't just throw them out. I totally forgot about that scene where Koril checks out the reactors. Good catch, Thor! That gives me an idea: what if the Sith from the first episode is already on the planet? Maybe THAT'S the reason the Jedi were called there, because he's going to manipulate events to get himself a potential apprentice. They don't know the Sith are still around and don't really understand what the force is trying to tell them. The witches clearly believe the Jedi will take their children, and Indara plays upon that belief to get them to allow the children to be tested. That whole "with your permission" thing was her saying we don't really need your permission. I know you won't like this, but if we don't make that assumption the scene is senseless. Now maybe it's a bluff and Indara is just taking advantage of their fears, or maybe this is a retcon and they're saying the Jedi can seize force sensitive children in certain situations. I don't know. But the implication that they can drives the rest of the plot. I don't know what mother Aniseya is really up to, but I hope we'll see that she has some kind of plan more complicated than just telling the children to fail their tests. I think she's more concerned with the survival of the coven than the wishes of her children, and from that perspective the arrival of the Jedi is a defeat because their existence is no longer hidden. Whether the children pass or fail, she's probably decided to move the group to another planet already. If the story is smarter than I think it is, she may be feeling both the presence of the Jedi and the mysterious presence of the Sith, and is stalling for time until she can figure out what's happening. But I might be reading more into her than what's actually there.

New generations have a lot more stuff to like or fall in love with. The old days are ending. Old fans won't bring new and the new ones won't give as much as the old with their descendants. Could the franchise be revitalized? Yes but it won't get as high as during the pic of G.Lucas years or the hype of 2015. Disney SW will be like Dr WHO just on much bigger scale. There's a sneaking suspicion out there that the reason the whole fire / death of the witches scenes don't really seem to make sense is because that's not how it really happened, and Osha's memory has been altered. The reason for the vengeance campaign / jedi guilt is that they slaughtered the witches and are truly the baddies. Would be vintage Disney deconstruction and degradation of the past stories and lore, if so. :(

A few thoughts I had after watching this episode: 1) I think Indara has history with the mother who created the children. I think that was why the Jedi were there in the first place. My belief is that she has somehow scientifically manipulated genetics to create the twins. 2) When the witch mother (I can't remember her name) talks about it being a miracle, I think it's the fact that they turned out as twins instead of an individual child like she intended. 3) I do believe she used her Force powers on the embryo when it was in utero and that is what caused the division of the egg into making twins. 4) I believe either Mae or Osho was what was meant to be and her meddling in the Force created the 2nd child. I personally think Mae was what she intended to create and Osha was the Force correcting a wrong. 5) I think that the Jedi wanted to test the children to catalog the force sensitive children and store the data in a holocron, as they have done all over the universe with other Force sensitive children. All this being said, I still think the episode was sub-par television, mostly due to the poor acting and writing. A great mystery needs some clues provided to keep it interesting and this one didn't illuminate any plot details, it only obfuscated even more of the story. This takes the viewer out of the story and created apathy and boredom for the story being told. Just my two cents though. I haven't decided if I'm even going to watch part 4 at this point. This may have driven me off, and I'm a big fan of anything Star Wars. I usually find SOMETHING that I like about any story I watch, but struggling with this one now.

That indicates that Osha is more of a curious type, rather than her sister; Since Mother Anaseya seems to be more lenient on the children, I don't think it's doesn't make sense for her to let go of her child; Sol saving Osha wasn't much of a decision, to be honest. Ehhh not really. He’s still in denial and on copium. Star Wars theory is the sad one. Bro finally realized that the franchise is truly dead. He did a stream with critical drinker and looked insanely depressed the entire time they were discussing this show.

This episode seemed to me,that the events that took place are all from Osha's pov..I expect that we'll see the same scenes played out more violently in Mae's pov,then once again,showing how it truly ended.

If you still haven’t realized that Disney is evil, you’re crazier than the Joker.

There’s an indirect reference to why the Jedi are there. Indara says they believed Brandok (or whatever it’s called) is uninhabited … let’s say she’s not lying, so they hear there is a settlement now on this “uninhabited” planet - there are so many uncharted settlements, it could be smugglers - so they go to check it out and find the witches, whom they choose to investigate further.

I don't think it's fair to say that Sol "chose" to save Osha rather than Mae. Mae had already fallen by the time he arrived. Osha was the only one to save. Also as a side note I think Sol genuinely believes the story about Mae starting the fire. He was in the lower levels and therefore likely wouldn't know about whatever was going on above unless the other Jedi told him after the fact.
