Oh you mean like a frog-bunny goofing around a battlefield while the most epic duel is happening? Or like a teddy bear hitting itself in the face with a sling? Or Artoo flying around burning battle droids in oil? Or Threepio getting on a battlefield with his head swapped with a battle droid? Or getting pieced together backward by Chewie and carried around in a fire fight? I feel like most Star Wars fans have a very selective memory. Star Wars has always had tons of slap stick goofy stuff during otherwise tense or epic moments... And i used to like most of it as a kid... but we grow up and tend to forget that Star Wars is, like George Lucas said, "a movie for 12 years olds"... which we can still enjoy as adults and find deeper meaning in some parts of it. All that being said, Rocha and Shannon are 100% right about the atrocious editing in the show and that editing has been a plague on all Disney+ shows... even more so on the latest Star Wars project. the pacing is all wrong, they fail to build tension and momentum and place comic relief in spots that should either keep the build up going or give a resolution.

One of the things I didn’t care for that I found odd was how Sol just completely disregarded Basil and seemed completely willing to leave him on Khofar. And was he aware of Basil once he was on board? And why didn’t Basil go straight to Sol knowing that murderer Mae was on board. Why was he playing hide and seek then with the weird scene with him attacking her for... what?

I don't disagree with John's point about stretching out the seduction into acts that lasts longer and provides more levels. Setting up some opportunities for Osha to try to escape would've added to her shift. But I genuinely found this effective for what it was. It's the first time on-screen in Star Wars that it felt like a legitimate seduction (and I don't mean the clear thirst-trapping, though Qimir does reference desire as one of the Dark side traits), something quiet and not as operatic as Palpatine's machinations with both Anakin and Luke. I appreciated that.

I find both Rey falling for Kylo and Osha falling for Qimir annoying. It is actually the opposite of what the writers want. It is the idea of the dangerous man being seductive and appealing. The problem is that these are not just bikers you get a tingle from because they are a bit edgy. They are clear mass murderers who have harmed the woman falling for them. So to me it's not a teen fantasy and more like a story about falling for or staying with an abuser. There is this idea of saving this bad man with the Rey storyline at least, but it's poorly done and the length of their relationship is too short for it to make sense. Both Rey and Osha have some kind of void in them or weakness of character which leads them to pick terribly. I don't' find that appealing.

I think a big part of the seduction was the point that...she was choosing not to escape. If she had tried and failed, Osha would once again be in a position where her choice was being taken from her. It's clear, to me at least, that what she has wanted since childhood is freedom, just like Qimir and the fact that in every interaction they have he is giving her that freedom of choice is...the point. In order to make her shift effective, she needs to have the ability to choose, and he's allowing her that. And because she has the choice to leave, she stays willingly.

Yeah, I “like” the show (depends greatly on if they stick the landing) but am massively frustrated by the “episodes”. I don’t believe it was written to be delivered as 8 episodes & that was a Dis corporate mandate. I was aggravated by 4 but you put 4&5 together and it plays much better. Again w/ this ep, it has already gotten a bit 🙄 w/ Sol doing Finn’s “I’ve got something to tell you” over several eps but then w/ this ep he gets interrupted 3x! w/ the last being a cut to black that is essentially the end of the ep that had me yelling at the TV. But I suspect if we put 6&7 together it won’t be as aggravating. Based on the avg ep length we’ve got what seems to be a 4hr mini-series chopped up into 8 pieces (hence the odd tags at the end of especially the first couple eps). To me the monomyth themes are on point just in a sometimes frustrating package.

It is as you guys say: Acolyte is just a bad show with some awesome moments. And it does have a problem with pretty bad writing: 1. Bad, uninteresting exposition 2. Bad characterisation 3. Questionable character decisions that lack explanation Like in episode 6 Mae pulls a knife on Sol, when he has his back turned to her, so I guess she wants to kill him... But then I remember that if she wanted to kill him, she could have achieved that in episode 5, when he was unconscious, instead of wasting all that time on swapping clothes. So what's her deal? Also, the events in episode 6 - on Sol's ship and the unknown planet appear to happen at the same time... Except Sol should have taken off in his ship long before Qimir could transport Osha to Sea planet. So that the two timelines align is purely artificial. Minor stuff like that makes me wonder if there was any quality control on those shows.

At least when a character like Yubshige does it in Shogun it’s interesting and fits his character. Qimer and Sol are essentially doing the same thing in this episode which is trying to get Osha/Mae on their side which is why Sol was claiming to turn himself in and confess to everything. It seemed Sol was actually tampering with the ship communications and engines intentionally. All things lead to Sol hiding something much more sinister. My crazy theory, but could it be Sol isn't even mourning the loss of his team, but actually upset that Qimer has exposed or raised suspicions of the return of the Sith which Sol and his Sith Master have been trying to hide.
