The ADAM Audio S Series Behind the Scenes

The S Series is ADAM Audio’s flagship range of studios monitors, assembled by hand at our Berlin headquarters. In this video, ADAM Audio CEO Christian Hellinger describes his personal connection to these reference-class loudspeakers and offers some insight on the assembly process.
Consisting of the S2V, S3V, S3H, S5V, and S5H, the S Series is the result of many years of advanced in-house engineering and the latest computer aided design techniques. The series does not employ off-the-shelf loudspeaker technology and features powerful amplifiers that are comfortable in even the largest of studio spaces.

ADAM Audio was founded in March 1999 in Berlin. Since then the company has been developing, manufacturing and distributing loudspeakers in the field of Professional Audio.
The development of the X-ART (eXtended Accelerating Ribbon Technology) tweeter based on the 1960’s invention of the Air Motion Transformer by Oskar Heil was largely responsible for the company’s founding. Producing sound not with a piston-like diaphragm as is done in most of the loudspeakers that are on the market, but using a pleated diaphragm that is capable of moving the air 4 times faster than the folds themselves are moving was the appealing idea behind it all. The achieved results were intriguing and gave ample reason for moving forward.

I just bought these today, coming tomorrow. Unbelievably excited! I'll be using these as HiFI most of the time, with some room treatment. I went T5V + random sub -> A5X + SVS PB 1000 -> S3V. Never thought I'd have these. The amount of godly incredible times I've had with your speakers is astronomical. Riding the waves

When will you finally release a well made app to control the S Series? Current S control is difficult to use and clunky and very limited.

I agree with this comment. Please include the ability to use the Sonarworks correction profiles directly in the control Software or atleast explain why that's not possible. Custom curving the monitors is a tedious process. I'm not saying that the S-series dsp isn't a great feature, I just wish there would be an update for it to bring additonal Features.

Hi Frank! As you see we have brought out the A Series with an included Sonarworks integration at launch because it was a ground-up design that included this feature from the start of the project. For the S Series we have to retrofit this feature to an existing product and that has proved to be harder than expected when the cooperation was first announced. We cannot promise any timeline right now but please keep watching ADAM Audio for any possible future announcements.

PMC 6-2 destroys the S3H, you can EQ them from your computer with no problems. Much wider vertical and horizontal soundstage and more low end. I waited for 3 years for Adam to update the S Series software and finally gave up.

Same here. I won’t consider s3hs trash, but…..they are…….never mind. They’re trash. Mixes transformed before I even “learned” the PMCs. Adams are ok for rock but crappy on just about everything else.

Hello. I have studio monitors ADAM A7V and SSL2+ audio interface, when I turn up the volume to about a little less than half, the monitors start to light up golden even though they are at 0 db, although the power reserve is still huge, then I turn up the volume and they light up purple. Does this harm the monitors in any way and is it possible to listen with a gold or purple indicator?

A limiter in a studio monitor, or any audio device, is a signal processing tool designed to prevent the audio signal from exceeding a specified maximum level, known as the "threshold." Limiters are commonly used in audio systems to control and protect speakers, amplifiers, and other audio equipment from damage due to excessive signal levels. Using a long-term limiter or turning up the volume on your studio monitors should not inherently damage the speakers if the limiter is properly designed and configured. In fact, limiters are often used to protect speakers from damage due to excessive power or prolonged exposure to high levels. However, there are a few important considerations to keep in mind: -Distortion and Clipping: Be cautious about excessive distortion or clipping in the audio signal. While a limiter can protect against overexcursion and overheating of the voice coils, sustained high levels of distortion can still be harmful to the speakers over time. Listening Environment: Consider the size and acoustics of your listening environment. If you're pushing the volume to uncomfortable levels regularly, it may not only be harmful to the speakers but also lead to inaccurate monitoring due to room resonances and reflections. Monitoring Levels: Always monitor at reasonable and safe listening levels. Prolonged exposure to extremely high volumes can lead to hearing damage and fatigue, even if the speakers themselves are protected. Speaker Power Handling: Check the power handling specifications of your studio monitors. The limiter should prevent the amplifier from delivering more power to the speakers than they can safely handle. Exceeding a speaker's power handling capacity can cause damage, even with a limiter.

Love my 2 way A3X with Sub 8 setup. I will be looking for a 3 way upgrade in near future with Adam Audio, which most likely will be the S-series.
