You should check out the old 1960s Addams TV-show, which really laid the groundwork for who the Addams Family were. I've been told that Gomez and Morticia was the first TV couple on American TV to actually be allowed to show intimate affection (kissing, touching, etc.) for each other - not only that, but they defied the typical stereotypes of the unhappily married couple with the beaten down husband and nagging wife that was pervasive in comedies at the time. Best part is how surprisingly inclusive they are, accepting all people into their home, no matter how different (or "normal") they are. A powerful message in the 60s, and today. Carolyn Jones defined Morticia Addams as the elegant and mysterious lady of the house, and John Astin the passionate and eccentric husband.

I've heard of a theory that no Addams can be killed by another Addams. So, they can do whatever they want to each other, but are still vulnerable to the outsiders. The original plan was for Gordon to be just accepted as Fester. The crew felt like it didn't fit well, and decided to ask the director to change it, so that he'd be revealed to be the real Fester. The message was delivered... by Christina Ricci (Wednesday).

😎👍 The main difference between this and the original television program (1964-1966) is that on TV, Lurch was more than just a peripheral character. He was one of the main reasons people would tune in week after week. It was fun watching his facial expressions and goofy mannerisms. 😁 Incidentally, if you found it novel seeing Christina Ricci at this age, then check out any movie from the 1970s with Jodie Foster in it, or any movie from the 1980s with Drew Barrymore in it. 😉

They really know what they're doing when they make these Addams Family movies and shows. I was really bummed to hear that Raul Julia (Gomez) passed away, not too long after Values came out. He was a really great actor (even in the silly Street Fighter movie he played the villain really well.) But yeh all the gross and scary stuff that they do is always funny. Common misconception. The “tips fedora” guy was Jerry Messing, who played Pugsley in Addams Family Reunion, 1998. The bad one with Tim Curry and pretty much none of the original cast. This Pugsley was Jimmy Workman, who by the way is the brother of Ariel Winter, who plays Alex in Modern Family.

She successfully convinced the director to change the ending that it was truly Fester.

Angelica Huston (Morticia) has such a presence because she is Hollywood royalty. Her family has been in front of and behind the camera since the early days of film. Her grand father Walter was an Oscar-winning actor (Treasure of the Sierra Madre), her father was the legendary writer-director John Huston (Treasure of the Sierra Madre, The Maltese Falcon, The African Queen, the first big screen version of the musical Annie, & Prizzi's Honor...to name just a few) who also acted (he voiced Gandalf in the animated The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings in the 1970s) Her half-brother Danny is an actor (X-Men Origins: Wolverine as Stryker and Wonder Woman as General Ludendorff), as is her nephew, Jack (Boardwalk Empire, Ben-Hur (2016 remake), and the recent The Mayfair Witches) Angelica herself has been in many films and won the Oscar as Best Supporting Actress for the comedy-drama Prizzi's Honor (directed by her father and starring her former lover Jack Nicholson, along with Kathleen Turner) She was a so in John Wick 3 & 4 She also co-starred with Michael Jackson in the short 3D film Captain EO, directed by Francis Ford Coppola and written by George Lucas, which was an attraction at Disneyland for many years and can now be seen on KZbin. Raul Julia is one of my favorite actors. He did stage, television, and film. He sang wonderfully starring in such musicals as The Threepenny Opera, which he later brought to film as Mack the Knife, playing MacHeath, aka Mack the Knife. He also originated the role of Guido Contini in Maury Yeston's Nine on Broadway, directed by Tommy Tune, the only adult male in a huge female ensemble, the show itself based on the Frederico Fellini film 8 1/2. His role was played by Daniel Day-Lewis in the Rob Marshall film Nine in 2009. Several of his films should be seen in reaction videos but aren't. Among his best: - Presumed Innocent (as Sandy Stern) opposite Harrison Ford - Kiss of the Spider Woman as Valentin opposite William Hurt's Oscar-winning Molina - Moon Over Parador opposite Richard Dreyfuss - Tequila Sunrise with Mel Gibson,Michelle Pfeiffer, and Kurt Russell - Street Fighter with Jean-Claude Van Damme, Ming Na-Wen, and Kylie Minogue...okay, it ain't a great movie by a long shot, BUT Raul was amazing as the villainous M. Bison. It was also his final role. See it just for his scene with Ming-Na Wen as Chun-Li..."For me, it was Tuesday." Rest in peace, Raul Julia....in memory still bright!

In my mind, the Addams family is the exact opposite of old fashioned upper class ideals. Ugly (weird, scary) on the outside, beautiful (loving, nurturing) on the inside. They don't care one ounce about their perception from outsiders but very much for family. Considering their nigh immortal even trying to do things that would murder normal humans are more like loving quarrels.
@mattburgess56972 ай бұрын
Something I like about it is that they are “weird” to outsiders but don’t actually make that distinction themselves. They’re completely accepting of outsiders.

Liked everything about this movie with the exception of how they depicted Thing. In the original show they called it Thing for a reason. All you ever saw of it was a hand coming out of a box to light Gomes's cigars among other things. And you never knew what the hand was connected to. All you did know is that it was at their beck and call in every room in the house. This was a big joke in the '60s. They even had novelty battery operated Thing boxes you could buy as Christmas gifts back then that acted as piggy banks. I had one. But they threw away all the mystique with Thing by depicting it simply as some boring disembodied hand. Why call it Thing, then? They missed the joke entirely and they compounded the error in all the subsequent sequels. Even the animated reboot with all the potential animation provides got it wrong.
