Very good seminar. Parent training is really important to deal with the adhd child. My teen hasn’t been odd anymore. He’s been having medication and I (mother) have avoided criticizing him and have been thinking before talking to him. I have tried treating him the way I like to be treated and it seems to be working. We have some down moments sometimes but I feel our relationship has improved. So I agree with what was said in this seminar, that in spite of the treatment, parent training is necessary.

I'm an occupational therapist and will start therapy with a teenager who has complex neurobiological developemental issues. (ASS, ADHD, DCD and ODD. disharmonic IQ profile, TIQ78 ) Not recieving any other treatment ATM, parents refuse medication, cliënt can't read/write. Honestly, I don't have much experience yet and was a bit (!) overwhelmed when I read about my cliënt. The parents speak a foreign language which makes things harder as well. This has helped me, thank you for putting this quality content on youtube for free! First step was trying to get him to come to OT (it's school based) willingly. I go fetch them in class, he said no (as expected) and after asking one more time I said 'ok' and left. He was very confused! (he is used to teachers forcing him and getting angry at him) I went back every day, and the instant 'no' became a hesistant 'whatever' in just 4 tries (he came with willingly) In the session I had several games prepared and he could choose. Then we just played the game and had a bit of a conversation. I did this to give him the feeling of control, small steps to make OT a safe space for him. I feel underqualified for this case, he should see a whole team of experts. That's sadly not an option, so I have to try my best.
