Always Board Never Boring loves Advanced Heroquest and has set himself the foolish challenge of trying to collect as many of the miniatures showcased in the various rules and expansion content as possible. In this video we look at five miniatures that he has added to his collection during this (very) long-term project, occasionally drifting off along a little side trail on memory lane. ABNB also explains why there hasn't been any painting videos on the channel for a while.
Here are some time stamps for you:

Metal bringing back the old days of lead base... minis I recall them and still have a few. Good to see that they are still out there and can be picked up. The eye site issue was horrible when I hit my forties. The glasses came with a birthday card and been wearing since then. Still adjusting... Nice pick up can't wait to see how you get them colors on them .

This is my favourite channel plus my most sought-after game. I had nearly all those skaven way back when. I used to think the old skaven of that period looked like nice friendly "good guy" rats lol..... I loved that skeleton army set. I had 2 myself at the same time the imperial spacemarine plastic rogue trader box came out. Happy days,!! Jess Goidwin sculpts are so good - pure masterpieces. Those old chaos warriors look amazing - Ive neven even seen most of them.

Thank you so much for the kind words. That's really high praise. Everything from this period was Games Workshop just knocking it out of the park. The skeleton army was an absolute joy, especially for a school kid without a lot of money looking to build a terrifying horde like I was.

Dang. I’ve been happily planning to use proxies for the monsters on the Adv HQ monster cards, similar but not the actual miniatures, but now you’ve gone and provided names and even catalogue codes for these miniatures I’m just going to have to try and buy them aren’t I? 😂 I definitely need more Skaven anyway, I only have the standard ones from Adv HQ and WHQ’95. Can’t wait to see your painting videos for these miniatures.

Sorry you are joining the poor eyesight club. A couple of things have really helped me: "Daylight" desktop lamp with magnifying lens - this is pretty much standard for me - the lens is big enough to cover an entire large miniature, and the light obviously means details are easy to see. I use this for anything beyond drybrushing and washing. Head mounted magnifiers for very detailed work. Again comes with a light (charged up from USB). Can be a bit uncomfortable for prolonged use, so save it for when you are doing lots of close detail work. Fun bonus is you can pretend you are a cyborg Adeptus Mechanicus weirdo whenever anyone walks in on you painting. The one bonus of poorer eyesight is that the flaws on your completed miniatures become much less apparent when you play with them!

It doesn't really bother me, and it's only a minor prescription at the moment. I already have a big overhead light bar. It's a bit different for me shooting videos, because I have a camera setup too, and I have to keep switching between painting through the viewfinder of the camera and painting normally so I want to keep the additional contraptions and paraphernalia to a minimum while I can.

Now thats an eyepatch, obviously that Skaven is tough as old boots. Never seen it before, instantly love it, another Jes gem. Scathe the Tainted & Flem, I know them well, theyre in my Skaven army/collection too. The leader of the skeleton regiment, great find, the time I spent admiring those in WD .. excellent undead hero miniature. Its true, that chaos champion is a badass, Jew Goodwin may have been possessed by the great powers when he was knocking out masterpieces like a machine in the golden age, those 47 Realm of Chaos champions are still keeping collectors crying on ebay decades later. Super additions to your ADHQ collection, look forward to seeing what they look like painted. Sorry to hear your painting has been slowed by the curse of Nurgle's Entropy, luckilly Spectacles of Restorative Vision as prescribed by the sisterhood of Shallya should help. My hobbying has also been spoiled by the ravages of time this year, arm pain with numbness in my handsI keep dropping my miniatures an brush, like my poor halfpainted batch of Moulder Skaven .. its a work in progress.

Nice haul of vintage minis. I've worn reading glasses for painting since my mid 30s. It improves your painting dramatically, whether you need them or not yet, and it's surprising how easy it makes hitting details and layering edge highlights. Not to even mention how amazingingly detailed the minis look on the table without glasses at the end. The most annoying thing about eyesight as we age is playing boardgames with lots of card text (always small because manufacturers think mini cards and abridged novels on a card are great) and having to constantly be removing them to view the board comfortably and put hem on again to read something. It is going to require a set of bifocal prescriptions most likely.
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Жыл бұрын
I think it's going to be good, but I am still in the stage of getting used to them so they feel a bit obvious and distracting at the moment, and I keep forgetting to remove them when I look up and then I feel a bit drunk. Funny you should mention mini cards because just before I got the glasses I had to stop playing Dark Souls. The small equipment cards were far too tiny to read when holding them normally (my eyesight is fine when sitting at a table and reading something of regular size on the tabletop) and of course, as soon as I brought them closer to my face they became completely illegible.

I always thought that the "shield boss" was supposed to be glued the the skeletons arm so you'd have a place to mount the shield. Also, there are no pictures of the Skeleton Horde or Army where they are used as a "shield boss".

@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring They aren't very obvious and if you weren't expecting them to be used that way, they are easily confused for just a circle on the paint job. Shield bosses became less common, historically, once people started strapping the shield to their arm and didn't just hold it in their hand.
