It's great to see the old-school minis! Slambo AND Minotaur Lord? Those Advanced Heroquest adventures just got so much harder with such dungeon bosses!

My friend, can you or the community enlighten me on a possible purchase of one "HeroQuest Advanced EDITION" it has the same box art as the new HeroQuest looks like, but nothing like the one on this video.......is this a remake of your copy or something different??? i would like to have it, you make it look frigging fun and I want to try it for my self :D

HeroQuest Advanced Quest Edition was a special edition of the original 1989 game. It came out in 1990, and is basically a reprint of the core game, plus some extra mercenary miniatures and a special quest. It is a completely different product to Advanced Heroquest, which was made by Games Workshop.

I have that Slambo mini. Years ago GW had a special sale with these old chaos minis where you buy a certain amount and get a special discount deal. I painted it a simple copper color as depicted in one of the Heroquest illustrations.

It's such a simple and easy miniature to paint, but has so much character. Copper armour always looks cool.

Only last week I was wondering how your collecting project was going. Mine (inspired by yours) is mothballed for now due to financial constraints! Ive got my orinional 1988 rat ogre, warpfire team I picked up a while ago and a champion. Wow - that's a jackpot edition! Completely agree about the skaven sculpt - side profile is much better. May look slightly different once painted. When HQ came out and I was at primary school, I had a plain white t-shirt I got my mum to draw the HQ chaos warrior on with a black permanant marker on the front and the Sourcerer on the rear. Shes an exceptional artist and this t-shirt was the envy of everyone I knew! The Minator with meat cleaver is wicked too!

I know what you mean. Acquiring these vintage pieces can get very expensive very quickly, but they are all so lovely. I bet that shirt was awesome!

That green color scheme for the CH2 Chaos Warriors comes from Druillet's Salammbo book. Pretty classic influence on the range. He influenced lots of early Warhammer, and is also the source of the Red Redemption, in the Loan Sloane books. Ansel used them as sci-fi baddies in Laserburn.
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Жыл бұрын
I never realised that's where that colour scheme came from. I think I only ever read one Lone Sloane book when I was back at school. All I really remember is the striking artwork, which I always feel has a lot of stylistic similarities to Ian Miller's stuff. (My favourite thing Ian Miller ever did was The City graphic novel written by James Herbert. I wish I still had my copy of that.)
@johnmiddleton4291
@johnmiddleton4291 Жыл бұрын
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Duillet's stuff is pretty good to read still. Lots of it has been collected and reprinted relatively recently too. Lots of comics in the 60s, 70s. 80s featured wildly hued armors in them, mostly due to the four color process printing unable to replicate metallic colors without them just being grey. So any fantasy comic would have such. But Ansel, Tony ackland, and Jes Goodwin have all cited Druillets stuff as an influence to them. GW did do a superheroes RPG back in the day called Golden Heroes too, so the comics influence was there as well.

That wouldn't surprise me, but I trawled Lost Mini Wiki and SOL, looked through all the advert scans and White Dwarf pages, and even went back and read through the Warahammer Community restrospective posts they published about him earlier this year, and I was surprised that I couldn't find a definitive reference to the sculptor for such a well-loved miniature.

@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring

I think it just looks like that in the video. The bit on the inside is the fat part of the palm where the thumb connects. His thumb curls outwards over the top of the left hand, with the tip resting in front of spikes that come off his knuckles.

Those deserve square bases......not round 40k heresy.

Advanced Heroquest shipped with round bases, and I want everything consistent.
@SargNickFury
@SargNickFury 7 ай бұрын
If you played WFB you had your bases square, and thus all your mob bases were such. I never played WHQ with round bases. Heroquest miniatures came with squared bases built onto them. AHQ was sort of an aberration in that it did come with round bases, but even then we used square. Because we were not new to warhammer. Esp in my section of the states, we were already to 4th edition WFB by the time we saw a copy of AHQ. It was not widely distributed here. Many of us saw WHQ before we saw AHQ. Meanwhile Square bases ruled the hobby since 3rd edition WFB. All the boxes of minis like the infamous "Fantasy Regiments" and undead boxes were square based. Never really used round bases until Space Hulk, and then later 2e 40k. When I see round bases on any fantasy model, I assume it's AOS and not old school at all. It's your minis and your game you should do whatever makes you happy. But putting round bases on my classic Warhammer minis makes me physically ill.
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring 7 ай бұрын
@@SargNickFury Yes I know. I cover all these subject on my channel. I no long play rank and file and base all my Oldhammer on round for AHQ. I even talked in a video about choosing between square and round for AHQ and there is a whole video dedicated to Fantasy Regiments.
@SargNickFury
@SargNickFury 7 ай бұрын
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Watched a few of your videos so I know you knew, which is why it surprised me. In the end play your games however you enjoy it best! :D I just feel like I have to have square bases or I will have WFB sinned. Maybe it's my general dislike of all things AoS, I still consider everything after WFB 3rd edition to be "new". I did technically start with round bases over all though, as My first GW games were Talisman (2nd so no minis just cardboard on round bases), and Space Hulk. and maybe Dungeon quest I don't remember what the bases were like for that though. I want to say hex?
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring 7 ай бұрын
@@SargNickFury I did consider square bases for AHQ, but ultimately went round because it felt more nostalgic and true to how the game originally shipped. It also helps with playing the game as I rotate miniatures to "lock on" to enemies in their death zone, and that's easier to do with round bases. I also like using round bases for the miniatures that will be used in other game systems like Rangers of Shadow Deep. And if one day I ever do feel like playing rank and flank, I will just pick up some of the movement trays that have the circle recesses. My big boys do go on 50mm squares, though. Good memory on DungeonQuest. It had integrated hex bases for the plastic heroes in the core game. For the heroes expansion, the heroes were depicted on the box with round bases, but I believe they did ship with the old hex bases.
