Random trivia: Cradle of Love video was directed by David Fincher. You can argue that without Ford Fairlaine, there’s no Fight Club, no Seven, no Girl Gone, etc. It’s a weak chain of events, but fun to think about.

They spent a lot of money on it. Put a lot of big-name actors in it. Even thought to create a comic-book mini-series of it... But after this thing was let down, it was abandoned. Oh, well... Remember seeing this with my friends when it was released. Never really thought of it as an action movie, despite the explosions and car chases. To me, it felt more like an over the top, late eighties comedic take on the Sam Spade detective genre (complete with narration from the main character). I had fun watching it because I had zero intentions of taking any of it seriously.

As a 13-year old watching this movie multiple times, I thought it was the greatest thing ever put to film. I watched it again around age 25, and, while my humor got more sophisticated, I appreciated the story, pacing, and those 1-liners. It harkens back to a time before grunge, when the world still seemed full of possibilities. It's a revered classic. Ford: "Top of the world, ma .... hmmmmm!!" Zuzu: "I forgot my purse!" Ford: "Fuck the purse, we're gonna die!"

@mattrobson36032 жыл бұрын
I've never seen this movie, but it looks fun. 'Kid who just learned how to curse' is pretty spot-on as far as how I would describe Dice's comedy. It seems largely based on shock value, and the trouble with shock is that once you're expecting it, it's no longer shocking. And there goes the comedy of it.
@SadSackGaming2 жыл бұрын
Ford Fairlane was a movie of it’s time. With Arnold and Sly, you were getting grit and action. With this, you got a snapshot of a time period many people would love to have back alongside the progress made in the meantime. Had great music, everyone was cool (except for Wayne and the voice at the party) and it was just excessive and silly while still having action to it. What is sad is that people have gone back to not understanding that comedians make jokes and that those jokes don’t represent the person telling them.

I wouldn't call this an action movie, but more of a jab/tribute to the film noir/neo noir genre and the music scene of that era. I rewatched it recently after a decade or so and was so pleasantly surprised how well it worked for me. It's refreshing in this day and age where everything has to be so overly PC, to watch a movie like this that doesn't give a fuck about such sensibilities but isn't being meanspirited either. This is without a doubt my absolute favorite Renny Harlin film, he seems to be at the top of his game in this. There's so much creativity to the filmmaking in this in general. A comedy noir parody with slickness of the best action movies of 80's.

The Adventures of Ford Fairlane remains one of my guilty cinematic pleasures: It's crude, rude and cringy beyond belief (It's a woke person's worst nightmare). But, as JoBlo said, once you are ok with dismissing the overwhelming inappropriateness of Fairlane's persona, it's a kind of pop, bubble-gum comedy that obviously doesn't take itself seriously, takes a few well deserved digs at the music industries and star system, the very simplistic storyline flows well enough to be entertaining and it is legitimately funny from time to time. Take it as a parody of 80's action heroes and it actually becomes enjoyable (Even more so if you are a teenaged boy and/or high as a kite! lol!)
