Watching this in 2021, I'm a new fan (I'm 29). This band should be as big as Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins. The fact they even had the bravery to incorporate and celebrate Black music is inspiring. As a Black man who loves Alt Rock and soul I gotta say 1965 is one of the greatest records of the 90s and it's a damn shame these guys never got the recognition their peers did cause they deserved it. Never put out a bad record. I'll be a fan now for the rest of my life and I hope one day I might be able to see them play. I just hope the band knows their music is still important to younger people like me.

Yep! They fused dark grungy rock and post-punk with the black R&B and Soul music, especially from Motown, that they loved so much into something unique and beautiful!

Well said! I've been a fan for 30 years and had the opportunity to see them finally last year. Absolutely incredible. And had VIP to hang with Greg Dulli for a bit. He told some great stories and answered questions. A dream come true. Crossed that off the bucket list.

Jesus.... This band is incredible. How are they not more popular?
@John-yf7iy
@John-yf7iy 8 жыл бұрын
Why isn't vegetarianism and veganism more popular? Why isn't Buddhism more popular? Why isn't protest against the evil lies of Israel and the US government more popular? Why is tobacco more popular than marijuana? Why is alcohol more popular than marijuana? People are in general dull and ignorant and stupid. The more sublime, true, and real something is, the less likely it will be "popular".

thewitchmalphas In 2001 an Israeli company owned by Jews operated a state of the art email-cum-social networking program called Odigo. With the software you could select groups by selecting certain criteria, such as place of residence, age, gender, and, happily (for them), religious or racial affiliation. It is a matter of public record that several thousand Jewish employees and tenants who would under normal circumstances have been in the buildings when they were destroyed, were alerted via the Odigo client to under no circumstances go into work that morning. It is a matter of public record because the FBI initially began an investigation into the phenomenon, but, naturally, quickly shelved their inquiries, and the one or two rogue reports that made it through the media blackout (which remains steadfastly in place today).

I love Greg Dulli. He is one of the best singers EVER, great lyricist, frontman and great band. I guess now days it's not possible but a Greatest Hits album would have to go Dbl Platinum if not better. So underrated for how great these guys are.🥰

@foo2985 Definitely, basically impressed by Greg Dhulli regardless of the band he is in. It's a disgrace that he isn't better known, but here's an idea about how cool Dhulli is, been telling a group of construction workers that worked on my neighbors house about them and they are now fans, so his music is enduring. A guy came over and asked who it was when I had them playing.

@caseykane3845
@caseykane3845 6 жыл бұрын
Some sources say that they took the name from a Muslim motorcycle club in Florida. I'm pretty sure that's b.s. On the other hand, when they were in college, Greg Dulli and John Curley were in a band called Black Republicans. My theory is that "Republicans" was replaced by "Whigs"--the Whigs were a political party active in the U.S. from the 1830s-1850s. As for "Black"... "I can't see how "Afghan" could be an equivalent substitute. However, there's a type of hash called Afghan Black. Maybe that's the connection, and how they turned "Black Republicans" into "Afghan Whigs"? Hell, I dunno. But I think it's a damn good band name because it doesn't convey a clear meaning or image.

All I can make out is "You got some stuff?" / "Yeah." Then something about "Rainbow," which I assume is a drug reference, but it can refer to so many different things that he could even be saying "Taste the Rainbow" 'cause he's got a bag of Skittles. And, of course, the clearest part of the whispering is, "I'll meet you in the bathroom." So, basically, it's all about DRUGS! Or Skittles.
