I played someone yesterday who was literally AFK the entire game. When I saw their score hadn't gone up in like 10 minutes I chatted something like "are you alive?" no response. RIP. I considered going in for the easy kill. Killed his vills and TC on fire. And then suddenly I saw the light. This was a golden opportunity to live in peace and prosperity! So I turned the baseball game on, made like 175 vills (not all at once because I was chilling), one of each military (just in case) and just relaxed playing medieval Simcity for like 2 hours until most of the resources were gone. Then I converted his scout and rushed the TC with my vills. I had to take a screenshot of the stats... Food collected: 198318 Wood collected: 124221 Stone: 8411 Gold: 47008 I'm pretty bad at these games, just started doing multiplayer, so it was nice to relax!

I played exclusively in 4v4 games against the default AI, this is back with the Conquerors Expansion on CD. One game I remember specifically lasted something like six hours and it was Britons (incl. me) vs Franks team islands game. Presumably one of my allies built a wonder because I know we won. Basically, what I'd do is convert the enemy transport ships as they tried to land in our "harbour". And then I'd eject one unit at a time from the enemy transport ship and convert that! It was great fun. Of course, I saved it in the middle... made great use of the save game option, I did. Possibly in the same game, I also had fifty lbows and I just one shot everything. I also used to use lbows to siege castles (maybe with treb support, I don't remember). Two other games I remember were as the Koreans and Vikings. In the latter game, I had walls built on walls and it was just this mass slaughter as they walked up the island to my walls and got shot at by long boats. Eventually, I believe that game ended when I managed to swing round through where I believe two of my allies' bases had been and hit one enemy at a time in the side. The Korean game I remember much less clearly and I think I lost it. I was, in the part I remember, in a southern part of the map and I was fighting enemies below me. The longer the game and the more death and destruction, the better. There was no tactical play whatsoever... all strategic deployment of spamming whatever unit.

On the ladder / ranked comments: i think part of the difficulty there is you start in the middle of the ladder, not the bottom. Some games start you off at the bottom - you're in Bronze by default and have to work your way up. Whereas AoE starts you right in the middle of the pack. So if you want to get to an appropriate rank, you have to lose quite a bit. Especially if you're new or don't really know what you're doing. So it can make for a tough experience - especially for people who don't fully realize this is how it works! Imagine being a noob (or like me you don't have to imagine) and you jump into ranked and get absolutely blasted a few times in a row. You think "man, I have no chance even against the lowest players!? How am I supposed to make any progress?" But you don't realize that you're starting out towards the middle rather than towards the bottom. My second ever ladder game I got tower rushed. Not a great experience for starting out on ladder. I imagine others have had similar experiences.

This way is better. If everyone started at zero, new players would constantly be getting annihilated by skilled players working their way up the ranks. By starting everyone at the middle, you minimize the maximum possible distance between any player's starting rank and their actual skill level, so people get placed where they're supposed to be much faster, get into appropriate matches faster, and spend less time being frustrated by steamrolls.
@gam1ngfr3ak Жыл бұрын
@@mrosskne I agree, I don't think my comment meant to say it's a bad thing but some may have interpreted it that way. The system itself isn't the problem - the problem is that the game doesn't explain this. As a new player people may not expect to start at 1000 elo or understand what that will mean for their experience.

In regards to T90 talking about using a game vs the AI to get an initial Elo placement; King of Fighters XV does this. You enter ranked mode for the first time and it asks you to play against the AI 3 times (IIRC it's three different difficulty levels), and it will then assign you a rank based on your performance. It's pretty cool, and I think in a game with an even bigger playerbase like AoE it would be a good system. Obviously it's faster to play 3 games in a fighting game than it is in an RTS, but there could be some kind of way to transfer that with playing one game vs AI etc. I think it should be optional though, but with the warning that if you skip the AI game you'll get thrown into the 'mid rank'.

To "fix" the "people that play 4 ranked, lose all, and give up", I think a simple solution would be, when you start your ranked "career", just play a match against a person, online, who more closely match the highest density of rank available, because in probabilistic terms, that person will belong in that zone. Ex: join in, first game. 1% players are 0-200, 5% are 200-500, 7% 500-700, 15% 700-1000, 45% 1000-1400, 27% 1400-1700, .... So, my first game, I immediately join the 1000-1400 rank, which is where most people are. I lose, and I immediately jump to the 700-1000. Then I win, now, the "jumps" are slower and slower.... until, at the 10 match, I already have a good idea where I belong. This would just make the initial trip easier.

I'm a big fan of AoE, and I just found your chanel and your content is so funny and I really enjoy it! I remember to be that kind of person to click all techs because "the more, the better, lol"! Good stuf!

I was so young when I first played this game that I couldn't read English yet(not my mother tongue) and honestly, didn't know it was a game to fight in. It was my first time playing an RTS. I would place all sorts of buildings and build all sorts of things and suddenly the look of the buildings would change with little waterfalls and such and I loved it. I also remember opening a map and exploring and finding a building that shot at me. I had this king so I walked him up to the building that shot arrows at me in the hope it wouldn't shoot my king. It did and that ended the game. I was so confused.

God this reminds me of a LAGtv starcraft cast with a player who tried the "build a spare building, fly it off to the corner and line your SCVs up next to your comand center" strat to make their opponent think that they were AFK/that the game glitched out. and then just sat like that for about 30 minutes while their opponent just never attacked.

I used to build my castle with 1 villager. I was always afraid to build a castle far away from my base because it would take so long and it might not finish. Of course I didn’t think about sending an army of villagers to build a castle because… honestly I don’t know why.

In theory they could also account for things like APM and how quickly your eco ramps up, maybe other stuff as well. Compare those values to the values at various ELO levels.

I feel like red knows exactly on what elo he is, so he knows hes got time, lets his vils do their thing, gets to make himself a nice sandwhich, comes back, queues some stuff and then eats his sandwhich before attacking.

Blue was the absoute classic LEL here. Do not attack until: - every single tech is researched - every forward ressource is taken - you have at least one of every possible unit the game offers - military is built up to pop limit
@Kettwiesel252 жыл бұрын
What I find most interesting is that blue is aware of the gathering point of their military buildings, but doesn't seem to know that it just works the same with the town center.

around the 30:00 minute mark in the video, ELO and Ranked Games are being discussed. i saw a comment that was something like, _"Ranked games are scary for people with no talent."_ to that person who made the comment, i want to say that your comment was moronic. here's why. many people -- myself included -- don't play ranked games for several reasons: 1. i have a penis and i don't need a video game to validate me as a person. 2. when i play a game, i usually want a relaxing experience. i don't like or want to become annoyed or angry when i am trying to unwind from a difficult day. 3. how could pixels on a screen be *_scary_* to a grown man? especially one that has seen real world war? nope. i don't find colors on a screen to be particularly terrifying. 4. when it comes to video games, i actually am rather "talented". i have been playing them since the 70's and understand a little bit about them. and being an aficionado of strategy games of all types, i think i have a fair grasp of tactics and strategy. 5. people that make comments like the one you made. people that say ignorant things like that are precisely the sort of person that i try to avoid online and in the real world. *_THAT_* is why many people don't play ranked games. was that answer good enough?

i played as a kid and returned for DE. Only then i started playing ranked and get seated at 800. Worked my way up through LEL hints up to 940. Now i often use the quickplay lobby to try diffrent strategys besides booming without loosing ELO. I hope when i return to rank i will finally reach my goal of 1000 ELO

31:22 I'm one of those people who didn't play 10 ranked games. ! won my first. Second failed to connect, but I didn't lose. Third, I was winning and got disconnected. Then the toher match updated, and I did lose. So instead of 2-0, I'm now 1-2, and my ELO at least 100 points lower than it should be. That's why I play lobby games.

I actually make forward lumber camps (and farms) when playing against my much more noob friends. They never scout the map after revealing an area once and since they're always 2 or more against me my town might fall due to overwhelming numbers, but my production aren't :D

Just wanted everyone to know that today I ate a Wendy's, Burger King, and McDonald's spicy chicken sandwich. My result are: 1 Wendy's; 2 McDonald's; 3 Burger King. Wendy's was by far the best. McDonalds and BK were similar but the BK sandwich was a big sloppy mess so I gave the edge to McD's. Ok have a nice day ppl.

When I was at a small private school we knew computers better than the computer teacher, so we snuck on a bunch of SNES games on floppy disks (this was over 20 years ago). So when she wasn't looking we were playing Megaman and Bomberman and stuff lol

IIRC StarCraft 2 has now some kind of "find a right start ranking/league by AI matches" approach, but not sure if it was there from the start.

Last Saturday I was playing a campaign match where I was on an island. Mid game my mates call me to go out and I just shut the lid of my laptop thinking it should pause the game. I return 6 hours later to see all trees chopped and all fishes fished.

31:20 The devs should learn about this, and give new accounts a starting ELO much under 1000. The current setup scares away new players. Especially ones who have beaten the campaigns, therefore they might think they are relatively good. They try out ranked, get stomped so badly they think the opponent cheated, and never touch ranked again.

So i used to never assign gather points because i could never put it back the same as when its the way it was untouched and that bugged me. I also used to not upgrade the knights because i liked how they looked so id have knights in imperial age and thats how it always was
@jikbleach54032 жыл бұрын
CS:GO does something similar you must play 10 games before you can play ranked and rank up but dependent how many you won or lost that determined your ranked(Elo) bracket. However this is all done in a special queue that isn't ranked and you will go against other players doing the same thing and not others that are ranked until you have completed your 10 games.
