This Canadian is VERY proud of you two for this incredible yearly effort!! Even though I am not even from the same country, I am from the same planet, and we ALL benefit from your efforts and the efforts of other people like you by having these beautiful clean places to visit and explore. I learned what "adopt a highway" meant from a past video of yours and have since adopted a stretch of highway in my own area to clean up a couple times a year. Even if some of us live too far away to make it to the Lake Fontana cleanup (10 hour drive away for me) your videos motivate and inspire others to make a difference in our own communities. THANK YOU Brandon and Sarah!!

I unpacked a box with a new piece of furniture yesterday . . . in Minnesota . . . and the amount of white foam particles that now coat my living room is epic sad. Now to think of a lake full of giant white blocks of it, degrading slowly over time, and whoa . . . who ever thought THAT was a good idea, right? Jeepers. THANK YOU for cleaning up this lake. Y'all making a wonderful difference for the humans and wildlife who use it now. 🙂

Right?! hard to believe that unencased styrofoam sitting directly in water for years and years sounded like… a good idea, at any point in history 🙈 although we worry about the microplastics & invisible particles it may be releasing in the meantime, at least one day with the new regulations prohibiting it we WILL have all of the big unsightly chunks of it off the lake! 🙏

I did a little bit of a walking trail cleanup this year. But you are right, we don't have to wait for an organized event to pick trash anywhere. When aluminum cans were worth one cent each, i picked a lot of cans, and would drag a bag for trash with me. Unfortunately, i can't walk long distances any more. When we make it to the beach, I always take my reacher tool and pick up trash while I hunt for pretty rocks. We are a few miles from Lake Michigan and it is nice to walk except we have more pebbles than sand.

Great job! I had a floating home and later a Catamaran Cruiser on the Columbia River near Vancouver WA, and I adopted our island, Caterpillar Island and cleaned it every day, walking the beach picking up shards of glass, nails, cans, and literally TONS of trash including homeless camps. The island is only one mile long, and in 1999 the beach was covered in glass. I got it so clean you couldn’t find a single shard of glass on the beach. In 2016 we were kicked out of Washington state for living aboard a houseboat, so we left our beloved island and found a new marina in Oregon that would accept us. It was still worth it, we did good and are happy we did it.

I had seen your Helene video when he was checking on the arrival of the dumpsters. Seeing the participation and results in this video is incredible! Congratulations on a job well done. The, "old-timers'," comments reminded me of an old story. A man arrives at a beach to see it covered in starfish after a storm. He sees a young girl picking them up and tossing them into the water. He goes up to scold the girl. "Why are you doing this? A young girl like you isn't going to be able to save all of these?" The young girl looks up at the man. She ponders what he said. Then she smiled. She reached down, picked up a stranded starfish that was just barely still alive. She tossed it into the water. She turned to him. "I may not be able to save all of them; but I saved that one." She smiled again at the man, and continued on down the beach, tossing starfish into the water. It's always frustrating when people gripe, won't do even a little bit, and actively oppose the people that are doing their little bits. SMH

❤️❤️ it’s been a long time since I heard that story. Love it, thanks for sharing. Totally agree with your final thoughts - I think it has to do with guilt, them not wanting to see someone else doing something while they do nothing - so they’d rather say whatever they can to get you to do nothing, too. Misery loves company! 🙈 but hey, so does whatever the opposite of misery is haha. We got this! 💪❤️

I have three brothers and one sister. When we all pitched in, the job got easier, and it sure did go a LOT quicker. (Grandmas are always right.) I really wanted to come to the trash cleanup this year. Unfortunately, I just started a new job and could not figure out how to ask for time off to go pick up trash. But NEXT year? I'm trying to recruit my brother and sister in law, as well as anybody else I can round up to come with me. This is an excellent project!
