yeah, when you look at it from their view, they're actually pretty forgiving and reasonable towards the xenos considering. the imperium still to this day allows specific xenos to work within the empire, and often goes to battle allied with this or that faction.

Any good AI that may have earned their existence were overshadowed by their violent cousins, and so Artificial Intelligence became Abominable Intelligence. As for the Xenos; do you remember all those planets the Imperium found during the Great Crusade where the people were so scared of the sky that they refused to look up? There’s a reason for that. The moment mankinds empire fell, every. single. last. xeno decided to get their own in on them. Humanity was so abused by aliens that we have an actual, inbuilt genetic disdain for them in the forty first millennium. The mere _thought_ of anything alien breeds such unfathomable dread in us that things like Exterminautus seem like measured and well calculated responses.

Fun fact: volkite weapons were invented specifically for fighting the Men of Iron. Think of it as the Iron War equivalent of an AK-47...which also gives you an idea of how advanced everything was then. The lore about the Xiphon fighter holds that it might have been for that war as well or something like that can't quite remember but still.

Ironically, that's pretty accurate. Rome fell because it trusted the barbarians it hired to protect its cities while the legions went off to fight civil wars among senators seeking power (each Senator had a legion, yeah pretty dumb). The barbarians realized they could just stake their claim on the cities and, welp, there went the Roman Empire. Humanity trusted the Men of Iron, whom at that point they knew were self-aware, knew the MoI were aware that they were slaves, and knew the MoI hated them. Humanity trusted these MoI to control the robotic armies of humanity.

I don't know if the emperor being around since the dawn of man and not doing anything during the age of technology or the age of strife is either an enormously dumb plot hole or a genius way to later reveal an incredible plot twist about the emperor actually being created during the age of strife by surviving scientists from the age of technology. Think about it? He hates religion but loves his science. All of his creations are generically engineered with some rare tech. Maybe the Emperor was created on Terra by some weaselly Richard Dawkins type and when he realized that he was just better and learned all his secrets and then just smashed his skull. But some internal programing was like, "you hate god and love humanity". And later on the religious cult that formed around the emperor started making up stuff about him always being around to lend legitimacy. Kind of how Christmas is months after the date Jesus was born but conveniently timed to replace the Pagan winter solstice "Yule". Yeah it's all very suspicious.

About the STC's and mankinds lack of innovation: I think there is only so much you can do without an AI and AI's were outlawed for said reasons. So at a certain point you stagnate (which is still a very, very high point comparerd to our tech nowadays). So I think that's how you can explain that technology in the whole WH40k unicerse isn't evolving anymore for thousands of years. (It's just like in the "Dune" universe where AI is also outlawed, it was orignally a trick from F. Herbert so he didn't have to come up with insane and nowadays just unimaginable technology for thousands of years in the futture.)
