Me too but I had high hopes. I always loved Alissa's vocals and creativity, but the band was always exceptional at making unique instrumentals. Vicky is an amazing singer but what bugged me about her was the screams which here sound strained, while the production sounded mediocre in The Five even compared to Eye of Providence, which I actually liked! This album just sounded rushed. However, I was holding off for when they get their act together and Vicky practises her screams which obviously, takes time and effort and is no easy task even for a talented singer. And now in 2019, with the 2 new singles, the wait is over. The production, instrumentals and mixing sounds amazing like before and daaaamn, Vicky's screams are awesome! She has reached and even surpassed Alissa's screaming and vocals from the Prisoner's era and the band is on the path to greatness! The sound feels complete and fulfilling once again. So no, it wasn't all just some random hating of some horny Alissa fanboys but rather, people slightly disappointed in the decrease of quality and complexity The Agonist always had, and now have regained :D

I don't know if you guys will ever read this, but that's a love letter to The Agonist: Thank You for everything, for the lyricism, the melodies, the heavy parts, the lighter parts, the parts in-between, just thanks for everything, my favourite band even after it's gone. You guys weren't afraid to experiment, this song and overall album is proof, (unlike a certain, now-mainstream band that I won't name, which was the source of TA's reputation to be hurt, even though you guys (and you Vicky) are nothing but incredibly sweet human beings) I've been listening to you all since I discovered you guys back in '12, I won't stop supporting you all even though the band is over, whereas it's by keeping on listening to your material, or by supporting and sharing your other endeavors. Usually I don't write comments. This time I simply must. I'm a metalhead for nearly 30 years. I wasn't a huge fan of The Agonist, until now. I enjoyed some of the older tracks (like Business suits and combat boots with Alyssa) and some after Vicky joined the band (like Gates of horn and ivory). When I've pressed play to listen to Orphans, I instantly started to bang my head... and so it was until the very last second of the album. After all those years of listening to tons of metal, it's not an easy task to impress me. This album is a f***in masterpiece. I was waiting for a weaker track while listening, but.. nope, sorry. It's perfectly complete as a whole. The tracks vary pretty much, but each and every one fits in perfectly. The emotions that this album evokes are beyond words to describe. It's agressive, dark, but so uplifting and energetizing at the same time. Everything is just perfectly in place. Starting with Vicky's vocals which became so expressive now, with all the techniques used being perfect - melodic, pugnacious, all so true while's she's singing clean. Her growling also came to another level, and when she goes to her lower growling, the devil himself sh*ts his pants and runs away scared. Those who expected her to fail when she took over Alyssa's place were so wrong. In my eyes, Vicky just joined the all-time hall fame of female metal queens. Besides, the band has improved and evolved in a such a great manner, avoiding losing their own style, but still going forward. Also the guitars are at a new level now imho. Astounding riffs, great solos here and there keep the album rolling like an unstoppable tank. Last, but not least, the drums - same as with vocals and guitars, level up. Altogether, this album is a strong 9/10 (just because they'll release a new one and I'll run out of scale) and a very strong candidate for the LP of the year. There's only one downside, it just ends too fast. \m/

I used to have beers almost every weekend with Simon back in the day in Montreal. (circa Alissa ). Fun dude to hang with and he was a killer drummer back than... but damn he has evolved. I wasnt a big fan of Vicky's vocals before and just stuck with alissas songs, but this was very good. Good on her for the growth 👍 I love seeing people improve

I think everyone should take a deep breath and give some time to Vicky to evolve, she didn't knew much growlings when she joined The Agonist and it's a really hard vocal technique, but here we have a solid proof that she's been having growlings lessons and guess what? Vicky's gave us solid stuff this album, I'm pretty sure Orphans and the next albuns will be awesome.

Saul Hernandez habrá que ver los lives. En los últimos que recuerdo ya se notaba una mejoría en su voz, pero incluso en estudio el cambio es notable en comparación a los dos álbumes anteriores. Es de esperarse que mejore con los años de práctica, ya lleva 5 con la banda.
