Check-out the split Ailerons at the end of the wing and those huge flaps and spoilers. The A380’s wing span is 80M with a surface area of over 840M2, meaning it can land 20kts slower than a 747. Listen as the gear doors ‘slam’ shut! ‪@BritishAirways‬

For those who didn't know, the wing was designed at the Airbus site at Filton, Bristol and was built at the Hawarden (near Chester) site. Once the wing was assembled, it then went to Bremen in Germany for the installation of the flight controls including the high lift systems and then was delivered to Toulouse for the aircraft final assembly.

I fly the A380 as a pilot you may not know from this but just after t/o the FQMS transfers 8.5 tons of fuel out to each of the tip tanks which oppose lift and so helps reduce the stresses on the wings as weight opposes lift. that stays in the tip tanks until near top of descent when it auto transfers back to the feed tanks unless it hits -37 C as the tip tanks cool first being the smallest capacity in which case it transfers early into the feed tanks

As the landing gear doors close, they are twisted into shape to make sure that they maintain the correct external profile once they are locked into place by the door uplocks. This is why you can hear the doors being closed - there is a lot of energy being absorbed by the uplocks and the adjacent structure.

I used to fly Manchester to JFK and back twice a month, and I always used to love the winter flights as if the Jet Stream was in the right place and a fun captain, we could do the JFK - MAN in 4 hours instead of the usual 6. That said, the seat belt sign was on for the whole flight as the plane was being pushed at an incredible speed and moved up and down accordingly. The captain did drop down out of the jet stream around halfway to allow people to pee :)

I cant quite echo the two previous posters who have inside knowledge of its inception and design, however its a testament to its design that it works and works well, reliably and safely. Proper wing and ahalf id say and thanks big jet for filming it in action

Watching the minute movements of the flaps to counter and correct the stability of a 500 tonne aircraft, one should always remember what inspired aircraft designers. Birds wings…..and the feathers at the wing tips making exactly the same subtle movements to achieve the same effect.

It is a necessity for them not to fear flying, but it's not a necessity for passengers not to fear flying. So your comment makes zero sense and was absolutely uncalled for. Since he's not part of a cabin crew and he's not a pilot, he's free to be afraid of turbulences as much as he wants.
