Sapporo resident here. Raised my eyebrows more than slightly when I saw you took a taxi from the airport to JR Tower Hotel of all places. There's an airport train which runs about every 10-15min that goes to Sapporo Station, which is directly connected to JR Tower Hotel without even you needing to walk out of the complex. Could've gotten to your hotel in less than an hour for like 10% of the price lol Also CTS is actually in the city of Chitose, which is three cities removed/away from Sapporo. It's called "New" Chitose because the old was located in another part of Chitose. The current CTS is also shared with Self Defence Force, you can regularly see military jets land/take off there too- sometimes at the same time as your own flight which I've had the pleasure of seeing a few times. Don't forget to check out the observation deck of CTS! You can also book Air DO flights on the ANA website since they code share. Also the reason why you saw pretty much only ANA aircraft in HND was because you were in the ANA terminal, the other terminal is primarily JAL and its affiliates. I'm sure you know, but CX does daily flights (two daily 3 times a week) to CTS too. But guessing you wanted to try out Air DO hence the odd routing.

Air do and Peach Airlines are real cost-savers while flying domestically in Japan. The barley tea (mugicha) is an acquired taste. I hated it at first--tasted like an ash tray to me. One day when it was over 36C outside, someone offered cold mugicha to me. I was hot, thristy and sweating. It was the best stuff I ever drank. Try some, at least once. Loved staying at the JR towers. Breakfast views from the restaurant are awesome! Take public transportation as a first option in Japan. Taxis are for short trips...or in bad weather.
@gentle587 Жыл бұрын
Yes, flying domestic in Japan is on another level - super easy process and super quick at the airports. Indeed „Air Do“ is pronounced like the ‚do‘ in Hokkaido (北海道). Hokkaido translates literally to ‚the northern sea route‘. This last syllabus (道) means road, way, path or route. Therefore, „Air Do“ is something like the connecting route in the air 😅 Cheers from Tokyo! PS great to hear that you like Japan so much!
@ridgeguyatSOK Жыл бұрын

Fun fact: window-to-aisle boarding is mathematically-proven (afaik) the most efficient boarding algorithm. To be precise, you want to first board the window seats for the odd-number rows, then for the even-number rows, and then repeat that from window to aisle. (I think this algorithm also works for a 3-X-3 cabin config.) And that makes sense. Even if you board back-to-front, some people might still end up wasting time on the aisle waiting for someone to load the carry-on. The window-to-aisle algorithm allows someone to give the way to other passengers by walking into the row temporary. Alternating rows allows the carry-on to be evenly distributed, so the next patch of passengers can have the biggest chance to have an empty slot at the overhead bin right above their seats (which shortens the time searching for an empty slot and hence the boarding process).

I checked, after mentioning it in the comments on your last video, that the coach service still runs from Narita to Haneda. Takes 1hr 15min and costs about 3000 Yen. About 20 years ago, when i was working in Manila, I got a call to jump on a flight to Seoul to deal with an emergency in the office there. I literally had to rush straight to NAIA and jump on the flight. Well, it was winter in Soul, but still 33-34C in Manila, and I had no warm clothing. I got out of the airport in Seoul at about 06.00hrs local and it was -5C and I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt. While in the taxi to the hotel, it started snowing! After checking in, I went to a nearby department store as soon as it opened and bought a complete outfit, including gloves and hat and warm coat. In 2009, Hiroshi Igami from Posky announced a new version of the 767, the SkySpirit2010 767v5, one of the most detailed 767s made for the Microsoft FlightSimulator 2004 and FSX. One of his Demo livery was one of AirDo. Everyone on the forum was like "what is AirDo?" and Hiroshi answered "this is a local Japanese airline". This is how I heard from AirDo. Never been to Japan. 4:23 There was a video by CGP Grey about the boarding methods, how bad by row is for the flow of passengers and how good the boarding with the window seat first and then to the middle of the plane.

Fun video as always! One little thing. I know you were running short on time from Narita to Haneda, but I think you should've tried the train from the airport to Sapporo. You would've been pleasantly surprised by the cost and efficiency of Japan's public transport even in the relative countryside of Hokkaido. I get being new to Japan and not speaking the language but someone would've been happy to help you out at the Information Desk. More importantly, you would've experienced one of modern Japan's greatest public innovations.

Taxis are stupid expensive here, especially late hours after the train shut down. I've spent ~$3 to go from my local station to Shinjuku by train, and then ~$110 to return by taxi. Expensive during normal hours, too. ~$3 by train from my local station to Haneda airport but ~$45 for the return by taxi.

Just to clarify as someone who lived and worked in Japan for over 15 years AirDo is hardly a secret airline, it is the main carrier if you want good proices to go to Hokkaido. They have been around for years and anytime I ever went to Sapporo or anywhere in Hokkaido it was always the first choice.

Great video, crazy how much that taxi was. Would have told him to do one! But for £104 to fly onboard a 767 you can’t complain!

This is probably a good reminder to always ask for an estimate up-front. To not do so is an invitation to be ripped-off.

NRT to HND is not a short hop across Tokyo - it's 50 miles. Been to Japan 15x my next visit in 3 wks. Only ever made the mistake of flying into NRT once.

Love the noise distraction on the toilets & the fish looking pastry with custard

If you're still local make sure you head to the beer factory. If you have time get the train down to Hakodate, the night view from Mount Hakodate in the evening is superb.

Japanese neighbour is always on at me to visit his country and I can see why. So clean and the people are so polite. Public transport like buses are immaculate. It's frowned upon to be seen eating anything.

Great video Noel! However 1st thing it is pronounced Air Do (Doh) and 2nd it looked like an interesting flight especially on that Boeing 767-300! 🎉 I love how the Japanese carriers in particular still utilize a lot of B767s (and eventually phase them out with B787s) just like here in the 50 US states 🇺🇸 😂 Great job as always I can’t wait to fly Air Do someday soon and to visit Japan! 🇯🇵 Cheers 🥂 😊
