This is something Chevrolet needed to do a long time ago. I am very impressed with the overall design. I was afraid it would look too much like the Silverado but thankfully it doesn't. I love the blocky profile, upright hood, thin headlights, and subtle grille. It's not in your face like the Silverado which I appreciate. The interior is a night and day difference. I'm getting some Camaro vibes with the rounded vents, climate controls towards the bottom of the center stack, and dash-pad shape. It works really well. This went from being a humdrum/non-inspirational snooze truck to now outshining its competition.

I've drove the 2.7L HO 4C in a silverado not impressed at highway speeds, the MPG sure but the band. Time will tell if that Engine allow these to stand out. No more V6/Diesel.... I love my 21 zr2.

I agree with Michael. These trucks need the 6 cylinder. And it is a shame they got rid of the diesel version. It sucks they are going smaller and smaller in terms of engine size on trucks nowadays. I feel like a 4 cylinder in a truck is just not reliable or beefy enough. The old 4 cylinder engines they had in the 04-12 models had a lot of issues.

Not on the base engine. It lacks oil squinters in the head, has a less powerful radiator, a different intake and other differences per Chevrolet. The other two engines share the same part number, and share it with the silverado 2.7. So more then likely this engine will be a little better at tuning long term because of the increased bottom end strength. But what ever people have tuned the Silverado to is likely the limits of this engine for now.

I would suspect though the base engine has a lot that can be tuned into it. It makes way less the most 2.0T engines which was a head scratcher to me as GM has a 2.0LT engine that makes the exact same numbers in multiple applications, and it would be all around more efficient in most use cases for people and fleet vehicles. I'm guessing that you can easily get another 40 HP and 50 Lbsft of torque out of it at a minimum reliably. ( about 277 HP and 309 lbs ft)

As a Colorado owner (2016), I say it looks pretty good. It does, however, look a little bit Tacoma like. Hopefully the seats are a little better in this next generation and improvements have been made to the infotainment center. All we need now is a little better aftermarket support for the Colorados.

As a 2017 Diesel ZR2 owner here's my take: The interior is an upgrade. That's about where the "great new features" end for me. If you're spending that much time talking about wheelbase you're searching for features. You're right Chevy, every time I get in my truck I wish the wheel base was longer... Lmao! Who cares? An underbody camera? So you have a camera that will be worthless offroad because it's covered in dirt, sand, mud, etc. Can't wait so see those things all salted up and rusted in 5 years. Stop building gimmicks and get back to building trucks... What they didn't tell you is you only have 1 cab choice and 1 bed length option. Crew cab short bed only. Chevy's reasoning is: it's simpler for them to manufacture 1 type of truck so they are only making the most popular version. So since it's simpler to manufacture that means it will be cheaper than the old model right? I'm not going to hold my breath... I can't wait the see the mileage figures on this 2.7 in a ZR2. I'm routinely knocking down 30+ MPG with my 2.8 diesel. This 2.7 is going to be lucky to see 20 MPG on the highway let alone towing 4,000 lbs. Chevy can brag about HP and torque figures all they want. In the real world doing work, this powertrain is a downgrade from the old diesel.

Second gen 8L45 transmission lol I hope it’s not trash. I had 2017 gas zr2 and loved it chopped the fenders and slapped on 35s. Sold it after the 4 time to the dealer for transmission problems. It was at the dealership 2 twice on stock tires before anyone starts blaming me. Chevy has a lot had lawsuits on how unreliable that trans was. If the tranny problem is fixed then this will be a badass truck.

A few thoughts, I wholeheartedly agree with the comment about 1 cab and bed choice. I never considered the TRD Pro because I couldn't get a six foot bed, went with extended cab ZR2 with the diesel engine. The major upgrade I see in this ZR2 is retaining the DSSV shocks but moving the rear mounting so as to not have the low hanging shock mounting points. I appreciate the upgrades to the axles and wheels, seem really solid. 30+ in a ZR2 is amazing, I peak at 26/27 in my diesel ZR2 going 65 MPH and it trails off from there as speed goes up. I'm guessing the new turbo will be at 23 highway.

I am with ya! 2018 ZR2 Diesel and I was really hoping for some "new numbers" on this engine, but I am not sure the mileage will be there. I love jumping on the road for a long trip and making to Destination B and back to A without filling up. Mostly getting 27-30 MPG around 73-77 MPH depending on the gas station (Shell usually #1 for me in my area). Hopefully the numbers prove me wrong, and it turns out to be well. My Duramax already had a blown turbo that destroyed the engine and took GM 11 months to fix. Reliability is a worry, but my truck doesn't disappoint.

I was so excited to see the new update because I think the interior on the previous generation is just very dated for something thats going to push $50k pricetag in the midsized segment. Then they unveil it today and its a fucking lawnmower... I wont give this truck a second look now. That Diesel was the one thing that made them unique. They could have just refreshed the interior, moved the rear shocks, put it on stock 33's, and otherwise left it the hell alone and I would have been completely happy. Now its just a Tacoma minus the resale value and reliability. Guess im waiting for the 2024 Tacoma refresh or the Ranger Raptor.

I really like this new Colorado overall, but there are a few things I wish GM had done that they didn’t: first, using the ten speed instead of the eight speed. Eight speed would’ve been fine with the base tune of the 2.7, though. Secondly, a coil-sprung rear axle, if not on all models than at least in the ZR2. Coils ride much better and they also flex much better than leaf springs, and they’re more than capable when it comes to towing and hauling as well. Finally, I would’ve loved to have seen either a version of the 3.6 twin turbo V6 or the LT small block V8 at least offered in the ZR2. But overall, this is a gorgeous pickup and it’s an incredible improvement. I won’t at all be surprised if Ford makes their 2.3 Ecoboost the base engine in the next Ranger and the 2.7 Ecoboost V6 the upgrade, just to try and stick it to GM, though I’m impressed that the top GM single-turbo 2.7 4 cylinder makes more torque than Ford’s twin-turbo 2.7 V6.

The Tacoma will have an inline 2.4 278hp weak. The Nissan Frontier is a 3.8 V6 310 HP NA 9 spd Trans... My 16 Tacoma TRD V6 has 200k miles as of today Muffler, Alternator, and ruty leaky trans lines. I have gotten 24 MPG. I have my sights on a silverado with at least a pwr seat. The 2.7 Turbo is a awesome... The 3.6 310 hp is good enough lol. Check out my Tacoma videos.

Great job on the redesign!! As a long time owner of Gm trucks I hope you guys remember,. Make the locking diffs and heavier 8 speed trans and hi output motor available if ordered, some of us could really use those options with out getting a top of the line package! Even gear ratios should be able to be ordered! When I look to buy a truck,the most important thing is the foundation; Motor-trans-axles!! Oh and quarter mile times! 😆 Keep up the good work!

Fantastic job on an already good truck. I owned the previous ZR2 with the Duramax diesel and loved it. The new interior addressed maybe the only weak point of the truck. You guys should consider building an SUV version of the new truck - think of something like the old Classic Jeep Cherokee, you would sell a bunch of them.
