@@utcougar the only civic type r from 90s was what original poster mantioned, an EK9, the first civic type R. @@bluewanderer9903 doing a little research it seems it was 99-2003 “ish”. Blue color. 2 door. Non-hatch. Looking on wiki seems it was a “seventh gen” from my 2 minute research. I’m a hardcore Porsche guy and I remember it had more hp per liter than a 911 and even though it wasn’t competitive with the 911 turbo in any sense of the word the hp/liter ratio wasn’t so far fetched from the turbos numbers. I really wanted that blue civic as a college kid. It was very! pricey back then. Late 20k range I remember in 2005 buying my first Porsche which was a boxster S and they were running right around $40k for a used 2002. That gives you an idea how expensive the civic Si was (many years prior to when I could afford a used boxster). That boxster S today is at least $80-90k MSRP, putting the civic Si way up there

As a current FK8 owner, I've always loved the eccentric, extreme, almost "kiddish" looks of the FK8 that was so polarizing to people. Honda was definitely going for a more mature/refined look for their civics and this new FL5 Type R is very much in line with those design cues. When comparing the outgoing FK8 (and even the FK2) and this new Type R, I like both for different reasons, and they both appeal aesthetically to me. Very curious if it puts out different HP/torque numbers, but I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't. More likely, they further refined the suspense, transmission and overall handling. Edit: watched a few more videos and Honda has already stated that the new Type R 2.0T will make more HP. My guess is anywhere from 15-20 HP more.

Too bad dealers continue to destroy the market and these cars. They are purposely trying to keep production numbers low. I was just talking with my dad about the design and personally, he feels like they toned it back a bit too much, but we both want to know how the airflow management works for this one. Personally, my thoughts on it are I honestly can't decide between this one and the FK8. They're both just that good.

The FL5 will be tough to mod until they crack the ECU My FK8 has basic bolt-ons and makes 620hp on factory engine, clutch, exhaust The FL5 will be superior dynamically tho....new chassis is stiffer. wider. longer and can house more rubber under stock fenders.
@TheReapersSon2 жыл бұрын
I like that they toned it down. The outgoing model was very juvenile and looked like a rolling Gundam robot. This one brings an adult aesthetic back to the Civic. Honda toned it down and now it resembles the subdued lines of older Civics.

Now it's official, the king is back! ❤️ 🙌🏻 One thing I absolutely LOVE about Honda is how they listen to their customers 🥰 people said the last Civic Type R was over styled, and now they even made the wing black, so it doesn't stand out ❤️ I actually did like the FK8, but I just love how Honda listens 🥰 Long live Honda and the Type R lineage! 🙌🏻❤️
@copperkeyracing61672 жыл бұрын
Trust me, they aren't listening. Coming from a new Honda buyer that has pleaded with them to fix the 2nd gear grind issue with their kseries transmission for over 20years. They won't admit to it, but all you have to do is go over to their parts department and buy the $150 part over the counter. If anyone can get then to change their ways, I'll tell you what part you need, and will buy a new Honda again. Until then, no thx.

This is definitely a lot different than the last one. Personally I really enjoyed the FK8's exterior design, I think the hate for it was unnecessary, that's the point of a Type-R after all. I do however think this one looks really good as well, sounds better for sure, better interior, better performance which is the most important, and you can always add that red side trim again if you want aftermarket, so that's good enough for me.

I must say that I really like the new interior, especially the new dash and infotainment!

They missed the bar again... too low... last time, too high... does not look agressive enough. Looks like a Civic Hatch with a tacked on spoiler, nothing more. No Type-R ever looked so subtly close to its lessor brethren... till now. Should have integrated the spoiler a bit more, having it be body colored atleast. I don't like the sleeper look/trend of current designs where the spoiler is muted, blacked-out, barely there. Don't follow the trend, lead!
