For anyone who knows how they played this song back then, Dickey's nod to Gregg was when he normally does a piano solo. Gregg was probably confused as to where he was in the song, seeing how he admitted how drunk he was. Dickey was covering for Gregg, not trying to cut him off. Dickey might have done some mean things, but this is not one of them.

Atta Way, Mike S. I agree. In Wiki and in a bio, it is said that Greg saw himself in this appearance at the R&R HoF, and it finally, finally gave Allman the motivation to go to rehab. We are fortunate that he did that in 1995-96. This gave us fans and his family and friends the gift of 2 more decades of him. RIP Greg Allman. 1947 - 2017.

The things people criticize...wow. I am just so grateful for the collected works of the Allman Brothers Band. Like every band, artist, musician or creative genius - they had their golden age, pinnacle, or apex of their life/career. Everyone gets old and everyone will lose what they have/had. It's amazing that Gregg Allman is still with us and that the ABB has put on thousands of great shows in the last 40 years. I am grateful to have seen them so many times - in the 70's and in the last few years. Some people are so quick to judge from their hidden internet identity. I imagine they have little talent and have created/left nothing of much value themselves.

Yeah you could tell he was really struggling here. This era of the band was really pretty great though. Warren was killing it and even after Warren they got Jack Pearson and he was equally awesome. In 96 I was 14 and my dad took me to my first ABB show and we were front row center. I was having a BLAST and Warren noticed me and I was by FAR the youngest person up front. LOL! So between songs he went to Dickey and they got a roadie to bring them an Eat A Peach shirt and they signed it and walked to the edge of the stage and pointed at me and tossed it right to me with a pick from Dickey too! I've still got both of them to this day and wouldn't take a million bucks for them. I went on to see them 5 more times after that and even met Dickey randomly in a hotel a couple of years later. I also saw the original Gov't Mule during the Dose tour and holy crap you talk about dominating! What great players the ABB introduced us to!

According to band members, Dickie was impossible to deal with when he was drunk (which was most of the time). He was like the poster child for the definition of "mean drunk". When he was sober, the guy was one of the best guitarists ever. Sadly, though, those periods of sobriety were few and far between by this time.

Today I just read the news that Gregg Allman passed away at the age of 69. He was an amazing singer and incredible musician with a bluesy and soulful vibe and I loved his work with both The Allman Brothers Band as well as his solo work. The albums Eat A Peach and Live At The Filmore were both classics and they take me back to my early childhood years in Juneau, Alaska where my dad was stationed in The Coast Guard. My dad was always a fan of The Allman Brothers and would always play their music in my household a lot. They were a great band. Gregg is now reunited with Butch Trucks, Berry Oakley and brother Duane Allman. RIP.
