I can see why you would be excited about the shredded cardboard. My husband got me an industrial shredder that does it like that, he brings home cardboard boxes from work, so I have lots on hand, it's so exciting.

Very interesting how your Buena Mulata had green leaves and mine had purple, even as tiny plant. Later, when plantet out, it faded more into green though.

At the end of spring i move everything unnecessary out of the greenhouse and create more space for the plants to grow. I recommend it.

Hi JB, oh no! 2 hours of your videoing work gone! At least you can start again 😉 but, make sure you mic is on 😂 i thinknwe are a guilty of chuckingvallsorts into our greenhouses during the seed sowing part of the season. I had to clear out my polytunnel a few days ago and its surprising how you forget what you actually have too 😂 well done Jess in writing & publishing your first book and good luck too ❤ your peppers are doing well. Hey JB, G'day mate I am glad to see you are very happy today and having fun showing the peppers and all their glory. I see you are growing Korean peppers I have ordered Korean garlic to arrive in the fall for October planting. I make lots and lots of Kimchee so I grow the Daikon Radish, garlic and Napa cabbage for that. I would love to make the red pepper powder as well. So I will follow your plant with much interest so I can find some seeds for next year. I do hope you can find some to enjoy your garden all summer long. Peace and blessings bye for now

Nice that the other allotments are getting used 👍Haha that difference in size between the Lemon StarrBurst and the Buena Mulata 😄Though since they are from different cultivars, so it is probably like comparing apples and bananas hehe. Cool experiment with planting seeds this late. Can't wait to see how that goes.The answer to "why do you grow so many pepper plants" is of course "so I can burn my face of in many different ways" 🤪I have *one* tiny Olho de Peixe growing in a can. Not sure it will amount to anything though. All your plants look nice (and a bit thirsty hehe). I think you did the right thing with pot sizes. I usually go from starting tray to a 9 x 9 x 9 cm pot to a 1 litre pot and then to a 6 or 9 litre pot. This year however I went from the 9 cm pots to 2.5 litre pots. Some of the plants will stay in those and some will get potted up in to the 6 or 9 litre pots. We'll see how many I think I can accommodate on the balcony!
@JBNat Жыл бұрын
Great stuff Ras. I've just put some in 2.5L pots and I'm wondering now if I should have just bitten the bullet and put them straight into their final sized pots.. I was thinking I didn't have enough compost for all of them though!
@PreatorRaszagal Жыл бұрын
@@JBNat I've been thinking about that too. I just went with the deeper 2.5 liter pots because I *had* to pot them up and it was still too cold to have them on the balcony. Would never have had room for all the plants in anything bigger than these pots hehe. If I ever mange to only grow like 4-6 larger plants I think I'd go from 9 x 9 cm to 1.5-2 liter and then to final size. But I just keep growing too many plant and can't decide which to put in big pots 🤪

You got me wanting to grow some exotic varieties of chili. We've got some bhut jolokia(which is just a fancy name for ghost pepper, which you probably know) and i ordered a striped sugary rush peach, you had that in one video and it was so pretty i had to try it i got some others too habanero and chocolate habneros and a bunch of more everyday varieties too. But yours always look so nice i wanted to get aome different varieties. Your aji amarillo and cayenne looked so great in one video. Your videos always make my growers envy kick and go "I wanna grow that" and before i know it im on etsy ordering a bunch of seeds going well its only a few dollars and then its up to 30 dollars before I know it haha. My bf looks at me like im crazy everytime another package shows up for me cause he knows its seeds hahaha

Love to see you smiling over your chilli plants. I get the same giddy feeling. They make me so happy. I've struggled with my NuMex chillies this year - either they didn't germinate or they stalled really early and haven't grown at all. I'm babying the sole survivor. I have to say, some of them are looking a bit sparse in the leaf department. Some of them, like the Kashmiri, are climbing high but really narrow - not sure if that's normal as I'm a novice chilli grower. I need to do so much more research.
@JBNat Жыл бұрын
Kashmiri are tall and some of the NuMex varieties can be tricky! Sounds like you're not really doing anything wrong to me! Check out Tony C. Smith's Kashmiri plants, they're so tall!

I grew Jalapenos and scotch bonnet last yr, still have a jar of dried Jal and two jars of scotch left having runied at least one meal with them adding too much, sticking to sweet peppers this year, we're such lightweights lol getting a forcast of 2C on Tues night/wed morn here in the E Mids, which for us in the bottom of a valley means getting the fleece out just in case! Peppers and melons are staying indoors for now ;)

JB. I’ve noticed a peculiarity with my peppers this year. Of each variety at equal stages of growth, they appear to use water in spurts. That is, odd pots dotted about in their watering trays get really dry overnight but not all. Then another day others appear to have a drink sesh and dry out when their mates are fine. I’m hardening off atm as most are earmarked for transplanting outdoors without being potted up again. They’re healthy, dark green and itching to stretch their roots. Do peppers have growth spurts like children do?
@JBNat Жыл бұрын
Hahaha that sounds really interesting! It doesn't sound completely strange as they love a wet/dry cycle. I notice that my peppers drink and use water at completely different rates, so I have to pick up each individual pot to see how dry/wet it is.
@StellasVegetablegardens Жыл бұрын
my trinidad perfume sat on windowsill is flowering is that normal 😮
@vanessawilkinson9855 Жыл бұрын
JB my peppers are much smaller, started them February I think & don’t have grow lights so been growing on windowsills. I’ve repotted them on to their 3rd pot (7cm) I think. Should I start feeding them to encourage their growth? I think if I potted them on again there’d look daft!, still indoors too, but will eventually go to the greenhouse. Thanks
@JBNat Жыл бұрын
Yes if they're only getting window sill light it will slow them down quite a lot. Potting them into too big a pot can slightly slow their growth as well so I would wait until they're a bit bigger yet. You can hopefully see the sort of size mine are getting to before I pot them on into 1 Litre pots :)
@mandytaylor1008 Жыл бұрын
Do you not plant in the ground?

I prefer pots because of the control it gives, and I've never set up a greenhouse with a raised bed (yet)
@sprre3899 Жыл бұрын
Hi, sorry if you’ve answered this question before, but are you feeding your chilli plants at this stage, and if so what are you using? Also how do you go about watering them, do you saturate the soil or is there a certain way you water them?
@JBNat Жыл бұрын
Very light seaweed feed, bottom watering is best but I can't really do that as I don't have any level surfaces anywhere!
@curbs76-uk-54 Жыл бұрын
Hey jb have you tried growing your chilli peppers outside ?
@JBNat Жыл бұрын
Yeah I find they don't do too well. You really have to wait for the soil to have warmed up too. Easier in a raised bed too. They can do okay outside but nowhere near as much control as a greenhouse offers you
