Its my second 16:58 hurricane season in Florida and I'm thinking about one of these. Think it would run a fridge, a fan and maybe a tv? With the solar hooked up in the day.
@temporarilyoffline6 ай бұрын
A quick google search says the average fridge eats 3-6 amps... so you're looking at 16ish hours on just battery power for the fridge. You can be wise and miserly and extend that - run the fridge for 1 hour every 4 hours and NEVER open it and you can probably get 2-3 days out of it... however you've added in the solar panel, so you'd be putting power back in. Just look at the wattage on each unit and add them all up. You could also get an inverter and separate battery, then add more batteries as needed to get more runtime/add more devices. Its a fun rabbit hole to go down. In my camper I was able to last a week with 200ah of battery and a few solar panels. - After the week we left the unplugged site and plugged in.

@@temporarilyoffline - You really don't want to operate an average AC refrigerator from one of these unless that is all you have. A much more efficient option are these newer chest type 12/24 volt refrigerators. ICECO is just one of many manufacturers. They are designed to be skimpy on power usage and pair well with these solar generators. Since they open from the top, you don't lose all of your cold air every time you go into them.

Android sort of requires location access to use Bluetooth or WiFi. The developers can set a flag that says they pinky promise the app doesn't derive location but that's kinda dumb. You can find someone's location based on the devices around them. It's less of a problem with Bluetooth but a lot of devices use the username or the name the user gives the device for the Bluetooth ID which can be found by wardriving or looking at the maps people make. I haven't seen a map of Bluetooth devices but you can bet Google has one.

That a great set up. not the best choice for HAM radio but gets the job done. just a 12.8V 100 Ah or so Life PO4 is great for Ham radio. less RFI . but when wanting to use your AIR fryer ,it may just run it just fine. plug in solar and do solar cooking. I do not know how much RFI noise that All powers will make. further testing needed. I would go to a park to try it out and use it. That would be how I would use it. I got a Anker one and that has USB C PD in and out so a USB C PD solar panel will charge it . just not as big as that one but for us tent campers it's great ! us radio operators like to eat good. I would be making some AIR fried chicken ! may be next test . 73's

"Solar generators" are great tools for providing portable power. However, many owners (including myself) are disappointed when they are used for anything that primarily creates heat (resistance heating), such as hot plates, griddles, toasters, coffee makers, etc. They will eat through batteries in short order. Those are jobs best left up to propane. Leave the "solar generator" for electronics and motors.
@g-whiz2866 ай бұрын
From a "bang for the buck" standpoint, "solar generators" are far more expensive than even the newer, ultra-quiet, inverter (ICE) generators on the market today (excluding Honda of course). The additional cost of adding adequate solar panels to your "solar generator" 'system' doesn't get discussed much or is usually glossed over. Quite often, the cost of a few hundred Watts of portable solar panels can easily eclipse the cost of the "solar generator" itself, making the cost of a renewable system even less economical. I would like to see contributors (who get all this stuff for free) make it more clear what the OVERALL cost will be. Ideally, it would be beneficial to be able to completely recharge your "solar generator" on one sunny day.

FYI, it's my layman's, non-programmer, non-developer understanding that it's Android which links Bluetooth and location services, not the individual app developers. I think it has to do with how Bluetooth can be used for localized location purposes (like Tile, Apple Airtags, etc.) but I couldn't explain it. If anyone else can, I'd love to hear it.

The 10 amp limit on the legacy (1950's) cigarette lighter plug is just about useless for ham radio applications. Even my 50 Watt mobile wants a little over 11 Amps. A 100 Watt rig like your Yeasu wants 22-23 Amps. Some "solar generators" have a 25 to 30 Amp 12VDC output giving you a much more efficient means of powering a 100 Watt transceiver. Leave the Astron boat anchor at home. It's WAY too heavy and wastes a lot of precious battery power.

Bluetooth wants to know region, I believe for national standards reasons. They are making sure you broadcast good BT and not the dastardly evil BT. I would think the app could poll the phone...oh wait, they are asking for permission.Some apps (Pi OS?) ask for BT Region, which you must provide (unless someone hacked the BT code).
@temporarilyoffline6 ай бұрын
Yeah, its really an android permissions issue more that anything else. A lot of it is poorly worded like "your bluetooh headset needs permissions to make and terminate calls" - sounds really bad, but... duh, its a PHONE headset, of course you use it to answer and hang up calls. There are other better examples, but I can't remember them right now.

Why do you call this a solar "generator"? There is no such thing. It's a solar powered BATTERY.
@temporarilyoffline6 ай бұрын
You'll have to think about that a little harder. A gasoline generator takes gas and makes electricity out of it. This solar generator does the same thing with sunlight AND it can store it in a battery. Pretty slick little kit.
@g-whiz2866 ай бұрын
This is a recurring argument with many opinions. "solar generator" is marketing speak for "portable battery powered inverter/converter with built-in solar and AC recharging capability".
