Great video. I think it's important to clarify that a story doesn't need a profound theme or thought provoking purpose. It just needs a theme of some kind, even if its a simple one, in order to focus the narrative.

The video game industry is going through a similar situation. The best solution I've heard so far is instead of spending $100M on a single project, spend $10M to $25M on multiple "riskier" original projects. Odds are at least one of them will become a blockbuster, and the audience gets original stories.

Its probably important to note that intention is just the jumping off point to making a great movie (or other type of art). Even with the best intentions, its a 50/50 if the result will even be good.

Loving your videos so far! I'd say the face cam is nice, but you weave such a great narrative during your videos that I find it a bit distracting at times. Keep up on the insanely clean edits over your in-depth analysis, and I think that's all you'll need for more great videos in the future. Wishing you luck on the rest of your KZbin journey, and proud to say I was here for the start!

I’m in the process of writing a book. All I have at the moment are, a written/typed dream sequence, characters names, title pictures for each chapter, and a hope that this the last thing I make for this….”thing” (s/o to BoBurnham) I’ve been working on. Your videos, specifically this one and the plot twist one Bcz that’s all I’ve seen so far definitely plan on watching the rest and subscribing liking and rewatching tomorrow and days to come…let me get back on track. Just wanted to say Oh My God thank u. My mind is a LOT more clear as to what questions I need to ask myself and answer when it comes to writing this book. And it’s all because you decided to share your opinion and ideas. Something I struggle with is understanding why in the living fuck am I alive God? I don’t feel like I’m important. Ppl in my life don’t treat me like I’m important. I’m not doing anything to help or save the world. I don’t talk to ppl, ppl don’t talk to me. What’s the point in all of this. God never gives me a straight answer. He usually just shows me other ppl who might feel the same as I do, or who do the same as I do, and has them to teach me integral perspectives about what I’m feeling, struggling with, or….,I’m rambling. I’m sorry. Depression does that to me. Anyways thanks 😁 Your work is greatly appreciated!! No high view count, or algebra problems next to your sub count will show the HUGE differences you make doing little things in life. -Luv E

As a fellow christian, i would like to say when it comes to finding your purpose in this world is a journey for everyone but what helps me stay grounded is knowing that my existence is inherently meaningful. Your circumstances don't matter. You exist, nor matter how small or great your impact will be in this world. Know that nobody is born without purpose and meaning in this world. After all, God knew us before we were even born. You just need to do your best and eventually, thinks will become clear for you. I also struggled with finding my purpose in this world for years, its not an easy answer because all of us are complex people living unique lives. I hope this helps. One final thing, what has helped me ask better questions is asking yourself how you want to live rather than asking what you want to do with your life or what job you want to do. No need to put yourself in a box, we are capable of lots of think, it can even surprise you what you can do.

I really resonate with this message. I often think about the Naruto/Shippuden manga and anime and how there were some great character arcs and moments but it ended in an Avengers style mashup of all the characters fighting the big bad and constant one upping the power level. Sure, *Spoliers*: Naruto and Sasuke have a rematch because Sasuke was a power hungry maniac and Naruto had to fulfill his dream of becoming Hokage or whatever but after all the show-boating how was I supposed to find a meaning in the story as a whole.

While it's true that nowadays stories lack proper theme and a "thing to say", i think people are also getting a bit tired of stories lecturing them about life and the world. While the points they make in the stories are mostly true, they are a bit too simplistic most of the times. That's why some of the most beloved stories in recent years have been stories with open ended arcs, in which the story doesn't make an statement over which viewpoint and belief is the true one in a very complicated, balanced dilemma, it's just up to the audience to decide what and who they agree with. The characters simply make choices based on their beliefs, but you have the agency to judge them however you like. Whiplash, The Silence, Snowpiercer and The Last of Us are some of the examples of stories with open ended arcs. Like in TLOU, People are still arguing whether joel made the right decision to save ellie or not. Or in the silence, it's hard to decide whether you would give up on your beliefs to avoid harm like the main character did. One great advantage with this arc is that they work perfectly in RPG videogames with non linear stories too. But unfortunately there aren't many games and movies using them yet.

@@SuSTR7 good point. I like it when the theme is very nuanced and the writers still decide to pick a side. You don’t have to agree, you just have to understand
@Deadflower019
@Deadflower019 2 ай бұрын
The thint about this approach that I, personally, don't like, is that the writer "not picking a side" makes it susceptible to not saying anything, or worse, portraying two sides as equally valid when they absolutely are not.

I can appreciate that Spiderverse puts an original twist on an old classic, but I think you’re laying it on a little thick when you talk about that being brave. If I know anything to be true, it is this: Spiderman prints money. More than Batman, more than Superman, and definitely more than Lion King. And you can say Spiderman 3 and Amazon Spiderman 2 are bad all you want, but they still sold like hotcakes.

You said they changed nothing but the animation in the LK remake. Not true. They changed a lot of other things, thoughtlessly I might admit. If you watch YMS's reviews, he talks about how they absolutely butchered the 'musical' nature of the movie, the music cues for musical beats, and the flow of nearly every scene. Even the impactful death of Simba's father was ruined by Scar acting weird at the moment of the killing. They didn't just change the animation. They butchered the soul of the movie too.

What shows to me the just lack of meaning to the 'live action' Lion King, is the removal of a Singular scene Where the Monkey (I forget his name) Smacks Simba with his stick, and goes 'and? Its already happened, do you wanna sit here and argue about it, or move on and figure things out' Which is, the entire point of the movie Simba locked himself out of the pride because he blamed himself for Mufasa's death, thinking it was his roar that got Mufasa killed He needs to get over that self-defeatism, move on, and come back to help everyone In the 'live action' that's removed. So the message is...... go fight the bad guy? And just to add in. Instead of that scene, they have like a 3 minute section, following a Dung Beatle rolling a ball of faeces around... which is... a choice?

I think-and please correct me if I'm wrong-that the purpose of those remakes is to make money and a lot of money. However, I also think there's a legal reason for it: copyright laws and ownership of intellectual property. Creating new versions, such as remakes, sequels, or adaptations (e.g., the 2019 The Lion King), provides a new copyright term for the new work. While this doesn’t extend the original movie’s copyright, it does give Disney new exclusive rights to the newer versions of the property. Sure Disney can't extend the original 1994 movie's copyright beyond 2089 unless laws change. However, they can continue to create new works (remakes, spin-offs) with their own copyright protections and use trademark law to maintain control over commercial uses of the The Lion King brand. AND Therefore, make more money and push back ''in a sense'' those IPs fall within the public domain.

I think there are movies without clear purpose(s) that are great. Or not. I think its just too vegue to set is a requirement. Spider verce would be a great movie even if it would focus on the same topic as others. As you said there are multiple arts within movies, so if all align in a unique good way, they make a good movie. So you are probably optimistic about it. And i can not stress it enough, sometimes its luck
