Glock is such a legend he's in fallout, the original, I think he's the one that made the plasma caster, or one of the plasma/energy weapons in fallout 1 or maybe fallout 2. Very cool easter egg, and such a legendary gun manufacturer to be featured in a game early in the 90s

I remember the crazy media claims of " the plastic pistol" that could get through metal detectors when I was in Highschool. Shortly after Glock became the gun to have. And the fact that Glocks haven't changed much except for different calibers 9mm, 10mm, 40 S&W , 357sig, 45acp, & 45GAP for 35 years now is a Testiment too Glocks awesome invention the G17 .

The choice for a lot of polymer was _not_ primarily a question of cost-reduction. Glock was an engineer by trade who specialised in polymers, he knew the material better than any weapons designer, which shows in the final product - since he was new to designing weapons, he also had an unbiased approach, and thus thought “out of the box”. Also, one important competitor to mention is the very well known Austrian manufacturer Steyr, who (I just looked it up), is in the bussiness since 1864 - yes, the company is really that old! - and one of the most renowned weapon manufacturers in the world, the Steyr AUG is probably their most well known products. So, yeah, Glock really achieved something. He did it not alone, and the Glock 17 was not the first handgun with a polymer frame, but Glock was the first to really put it all together in the right way, and created one of the most useful firearms in history.

Ok, I think the idea that Glock locked himself down in his basement and with 'no experience or background..." and built his wonder pistol in just 3 months with just his nut sack and a dream is a bit overstated..... 1st the guy was already a trained mechanical engineer who had already owned some kind of a 'widget' company...so it wasn't like he was the freaking night janitor in some building with a dream....you know he not not have been a gun but he actually knew something about mechanical engineering and manufacturing things....?? 2. He consulted with military officers, gun makers, and even a camera manufacturer who specialized in using plastics and metal parts to produce shock resistant cameras....get it?? 3. He brain stormed with all of these guys and asked them what the ideal military pistol would be like using designs from the past while factoring in new options using current materials and manufacturing methods....then he went into the basement and started working on it...so. Take a chill pill dude....Herr Glock was capable and looked for some help and input from the group mastermind...besides that...H&K had already built a plastic gun before...I'm sure that freaking thing was sitting on his shop bench too for inspiration...
