Hello everyone! I wanted to address another video that (from the great guys at Hardware Unboxed) heavily criticized this notebook's cooling. It had us dropping everything, re-testing and re-validating our observations about the A15. We even reached out to HUB to see how our results could be so different from theirs; because seriously, both weren't even close We'll be posting another video in the coming days once we get to the bottom of things but right now, after another ~50 hours of testing and comparisons, nothing has changed from Eber's observations about cooling in this video. As for the screen, we don't have a way to scientifically measure response times (YET!) but both Eber and I gamed quite a bit on it and neither of us felt there was anything specifically lacking that we hadn't seen on similarly priced notebooks we've come across. What you see is our honest subjective feedback about that. Stay tuned for more! - Mike Editor In Chief, HWC

That cooling design at the bottom is awful, terrible air flow and high temps on CPU, obviously that will short life span of all components. I have decided to remove the bottom cover and put the laptop over my cooling pad to lower the temp from 88° on full load to 67°. Asus needs to come up with an updated design on that disastrous bottom plate.

Let's be honest, most laptops are just going AMD and will stay like that for a long time. Nice review Hardware Canucks Edit: Thanks for all the replies. My g14 arrives tomorrow. I think the biggiest factors for my between the two are the 1.7kg weight of G14, the way longer battery life made possible by the MQ GPU only sacrifising 2-3% of fps, and most importantly, the costmizable LED on the cover. For me, the TUF 15 is puely for gamer while the G14 is targeted for a wider designer/creators who would also like to play some games on the go, justified by the 1440p screen option which is what im getting. But then, it weights a ton and the battery would only last you enough to save your stuff and shutdown the system, so that one is more like a LAN party machine than a "real" laptop. So, outliers aside, most of the manufacturers are in the eternal struggle juggle between performance, portability, lipsticks and pigs, and what matters is what works best for your specific needs. And yes, something like this would be more than enough for pretty much anyone in 2020, and at that price point it looks interesting even for a die-hard desktop fans like myself.

The part arrived within a week, which was nice given the prevailing pandemic. Now I hear that the replacement motherboard fixed the HDMI issue but occasionally (as the service technician told me) failing to detect the display. The service center has asked for a replacement for the replacement. Meanwhile, I wait for a final fix with a jittery feeling as to how long this laptop would really last.
@debasisroy75564 жыл бұрын
An update. I got the laptop back from the service center in about two weeks. Have been using the machine for about two months. Its speed is impressive. Audio is excellent as well. Didn't notice much of heating issue. Fan noise is noticeable but not that I can't live with. Color reproduction is somewhat lacking, although I don't have a problem with that. Another irritation is occasional touchpad stutter. So far so good I must say.

It seems to me that Asus have made close to the perfect machine for college students. Relatively inexpensive for the power it packs, capable of doing almost any task that is thrown at it, long battery life for when you need to be away from an outlet or when all the outlets at the library are occupied, and good enough for any leisures activities you might want to throw at it. As someone in mass media I would only say the drawbacks are the screen and the lack of SD card and dedicated mic ports. But that doesn't matter as much to me since I can go to my college lab for iMacs to color grade, use dongles, etc.

Can you do a review about laptops which would be best for photographers? Adobe RGB rating as close to 100% is super important, along with enough power to not take forever to edit large photo files. Potentially options in both 13/14 inch and 15 inch. Heavy laptops are not ideal being we have so much camera gear in our bag to start with and the bag gets heavy quick.

@P ROG gets certain things better for sure. When it comes to the delicate balance of thermals and performance, better check the data and understand it before proclaiming a victor. Especially, when talking about ultras or thin and lights, which make compromises. It isn't really a difference that matters, but I was surprised to see the TUF (4800H 45W rtx 2060) out bench the G14 4800HS 35W 2060 max-q. One can lower the power and temps on the TUF down the G14, but you can't change the internals of the G14, nor can it handle that heat, nor pack up to 64GB of RAM.

For what it's worth, I get 4150 on Cinebench R20 with my G14. Not sure if that's because of bios/power profile updates since your review or just chip-to-chip difference but it's quite a bit higher than the 3770 you show here. 9:15

The lack of information and Dell themselves saying they didn't have any quarter launch plans is why in early May I preordered the TUF, but I really was interested in the Dell. Of course now I know I'd have to either not get the 4800H or pay more, but I still don't know if the Dell runs cooler, than the TUF. I made the guess it wouldn't, because the 5600M runs hotter than a 1660 Ti, but that was just a hypothesis, not a fact. I can't get still under warranty t.i.m. repaste on a Dell, either. They aren't offering the 5700M on the Dell yet, either.

Even though a rarely use the laptop's keys, I like the WAS keys esthetically (asthetically?) The laptop can pass for a regular laptop, but the WAS keys are a subtle clue the the operator is a gamer. yes. i do like a separate wasd, not just for gaming but also for work. photoshop keys sometimes either tactile or just keeping your eye on the ball thing. Also it's understandable to have wasd keys because it's catered for gaming community than the normal vanilla user. - to add..the usb2.0 port on the right side is used for external peripherals such as keyboards and mouse that's used for gamers that has to have a separate keyboard and mouse at home. so it's not needed to have a usb3 port for that side.
