I graduated from high school that year. For our senior trip we camped out several days in the sand dunes in Colorado. Michael Jackson started out so great with a good voice, sad he went the way he did with drugs. Dad retired from the Air Force that year, and I still have one of those photos. I loved the Carpenters - Close To You. They had such a clean sound. Our nineties kids also grew up with Willie Wonka movies. Ah! Carol King. My parents gave me the choice of business school or college. I chose college for the ridiculously immature reason that my friends were going, and picked the college and got a merit scholarship at University Of Northern Colorado, where most of my friends were going.

Terrific, Fred. Definitely captures the feel of the times when so much was changing so fast. Things I recall as a kid : 1) Thinking Vietnam would never end and wondering if I’d end up there one day; 2) Hearing the Carpenters and Carole King constantly at home or on radio - the Carpenters take me back to these years; 3) This was the summer I started buying comic books on a regular basis … specifically Marvel - or at least Dad got them for me. Remember loving Sub-Mariner, Spidey and Iron Man. 4) I was obsessed with astronauts. (And one other note - That first album by Curtis Mayfield is a powerhouse. If you love soul music like me it’s a must have!)
