Can’t help but look at this through the lens of the current political election season in the US. Not sure if JD Vance is experienced enough right now for the job. And, maybe that’s the point. Trump didn’t want another Pence. He just wanted someone to follow orders - but, that could have dangerous consequences for the country.

@@nrkgalt Very true. And history would have been quite different. Tyler was the one who established the precedent that the VP actually becomes president, as opposed to the acting president when his boss dies.

Ford’s biggest mistake was pardoning Nixon. It has been the black spot on his career. He was a fine legislator, he was a president that worked to pull us out of a hot mess. It took Carter to finish the job, but Ford doomed himself with his pardoning of Tricky Dick. He should have let the courts decide. That is why we have laws. Are you listening, Donald? Let the courts decide.
