I love this discussion and before watching I lean super hard on the Delta Reserve side for me.

I think I would lean towards the Reserve card if I had to pick just one!

@@Spend.Earn.Travel.I like how it has fewer friction points to recoup the fee. One round trip flight and one hotel stay and few resy dinners and you are set. The Platinum has more value but it's about 4 times the friction points. I feel like combining Delta Reserve with Venture X covers you really well with lounges and still has a low number of events per year to recoup value. I have both right now as I have military fee waivers on them. I will definitely keep the Delta card at either Platinum or Reserve level, but keeping the AMEX Platinum will be a difficult choice once the fees hit. That's my two cents, but keep in mind I live in a Delta hub, I have a player 2, and travel several times a year for the military.

Tfs Matt. I've had the Delta Reserve card sonce last yr. I LOVE it. The no baggage fees, lounge access before AND after my flights, and the hotel credits are great for me. Add the status boost & upgrades and I'm keeping it unless the annual fee gets too crazy.

The Reserve card is a great card to have! One of my favorites

I have both of these cards and utilize all the credits (and the companion certificate). It has paid dividends. I actually have 2 Reserve cards and also a Delta SkyMiles Platinum to go along with the Amex Plat. So I get 3 companion pass certificates automatic Silver Medallion annually although I reach Platinum Medallion with no problem. It’s a lot of annual fees but I make it work for me.

I think you should also consider the Delta Skymiles Reserve And American Express Gold card. It’s a surprising powerful combo. You earn alot of the points on on the Gold card (espeically the 4x on groceries) then convert the points to skymiles if flying delta or just keep the regular MR points so you have flexibility when traveling. This combo has less annual fees than the delta reserve plus platinum combo. The only thing you would miss out on is hotel status but not everyone cares about that.

That’s also a great option! I had that setup for a while and it worked really well!

I currently hold the platinum and was thinking about adding the reserve card and despite the $650 annual fee, it pays for itself and more in value with one trip by utilizing the perks such as a companion person flying for free with lounge access including upgrades. Even though I don't fly often, it's worth it.

But why choose the reserve over the platinum delta? Are you only flying first and C+?

I have both of these cards; Amex Platinum and Amex Delta Reserve. I also have the business versions of the Amex Delta Reserve and the Amex Delta Platinum. I am planning on getting the Amex Delta Platinum personal card in order to complete the four Delta cards with a cumulative 10,000 MQDs. Cheers 🍻

I have both and they each offer the value I'm looking for, though that can take a little work ("coupons"). I'm Delta Platinum now through 1/25 but if I'm a lower status after that I'll likely downgrade or cancel the Reserve and be more open to other airlines.

I honestly wish there was an equivalent of these Delta cards for United, not with Chase.
@Spend.Earn.Travel.2 ай бұрын
Agreed! United and America cards really lag behind Deltas offerings.

My home airport is a United and American hub. #3 southwest also does several times the flights of Delta. I'd want to want the Delta cards if price and availability made more sense .

First, Great video. Second, I have the delta reserve card and I’ve been thinking of upgrading to the platinum - would I then lose my medallion status on flights? Even if I still choose to fly mainly with delta? And would I still be eligible for upgrades? Thanks.
@Spend.Earn.Travel.Ай бұрын
Thank you! Are you referring to the Delta Platinum or the Amex Platinum? The Delta Platinum still offers the $2,500 MQD boost. But the Amex Platinum card does not offer that benefit. So if you rely on the MQD boost from the Platinum card, then you would loose your status. But if your status comes from purchases Delta flights, then it does not matter which card you use because you'll earn MQDs when you complete the flight!

I fly to the Philippines often. I have Delta Reserve and Amex business Platinum. Often the same flight booked through Korean Air is 1/3 of the cost of booking through Delta. If I book through Korean Air and the flight is still Delta, can I still access the lounge or get my Gold Medallion perks? I feel it’s probably a stretch, but worth asking.
