I remember the old, old house! 1963, I was 3. my first memory. I went in to my grandma and grandpas house. no electricity, no bathroom. My cousin Bud took me there. Walked into the living room. A potbellied stove set in the corner. I was burnt severly on it in 61, don't remember that but still 55 years later I still have the scars on my hand and both legs. I remember my mom and sis and grandma in the kitchen. Grandma or Mom went to the stove and got me a bowl of beans. I'am pretty sure it was a wood burning stove. First meal I remember. Just a thought! Don't know why this video brought this memory back, but it did. Have a nice day my friends.

My grandfather and grandmother were from the Friends order, they had relocated to Florida and raised their children. Many memories were watching my grandfather in his shop and being in the kitchen with grandmother. I learned to cook on a wood stove and there's nothing better tasting than food cooked by a fire place with a spit or bread from the wood burning stove. I was brought up with many teachings from them and cherish all the memories. Today, i still use many of their teachings, although not brought up in the community, my life is much richer from my grandparents, I try to live as close to self reliance as possible and it's not easy but rewarding. Thank you for sharing this.

@@Pisces3139 You're kidding, right? Are you saying that you've never done anything wrong in your entire life? Every single one of us does things wrong. Sometimes it's on purpose; other times it's unintentional. Have you ever lied? Been disrespectful to your parents? Lusted in your heart after someone? Had celebrity idols (or other idols)? Put yourself first over the loving God of the universe? Have you ever stolen anything? Have you ever cheated in any way? If you believe that you don't have anything to repent of, then you're just deceiving yourself. If you have ever in any way not put the good of other people above your own self, then you have something to repent of.
@ivetterodriguez19944 жыл бұрын
@@Pisces3139 Basically "repenting" refers to recognizing that you are capable of sinning and likely have sinned (even just minor things). Having just one sin committed in your life is plenty to deserve Hell, as no sin is allowed in heaven. Since the Christian belief believes all have sinned, it believes we would all go to Hell deservingly if it weren't for Christ dying for our sins and redeeming us out of mercy. Also, the words "all", "we", and "us" mean exactly that, as in including myself. And yes, I do acknowledge that the idea of deserving eternal punishment for even a minor sin, such as lying, is harsh. But that is what this "repent" thing usually refers to; *to those who misuse the word to refer to salvation from Hell through Christ's sacrifice.* *The correct meaning of "repent" is* the acknowledgment of specific sin(s) and striving to not do them if one decides to become Christian and not merely a believer of Christ's salvation. *Salvation itself is basically the acknowledgment that you (anyone) isn't perfectly sound and thus to be saved would have to accept/believe that Christ died for the sins of the world (which means including yours and mine) in order to be saved according to Christian theology.* Salvation doesn't require striving to change only converting to Christianity does. Since being Christian is considered disciplinary and striving to be more "good" in God's eyes whereas salvation is acknowledging that matter how good we can't be void of sin and thus need Christ for salvation. Sorry, if this was confusing and long I just figured that these other two (people replying) are bad at explaining without sounding rude. Still your choice to believe any of this; I'm just giving the explanation.

It really doesn't seem all that different to any other old home. I don't know much about old American homes but you see much the same thing on tours of old buildings in Australia, and people still live in homes much like that in Britain. The Amish seem to be pretty high-tech. Solar power and gas power etc... Anything goes, provided there's no physical connection to the world (like power lines). It's not overly romantic and it's not hypocritical, you've just got to understand the reasoning.

Belief is an equivocal term referring to (usually willing) acceptance of an idea. Belief comes in various flavors: Synonymous with "favorable view" as in "I don't believe in winding electrical cords too tightly." Result of "seeing is believing" where someone believes in regular sunrises. Assessment of likelihood: "I believe you can understand this." Trust of another person: "I believe you did put my check in the mail." From a deep place within: "I believe my spirit guide is telling me to lay healing hands on your boo-boo." Utter staring delusion: "I believe I am being told to cleanse the world of evil." Pragmatic self-interest: "Every man's got to believe in something. I believe I'll have another drink

Thanks jrhager. Someday I'm hoping to spend a few weeks living with the Amish. I'd like to see how people can live and farm without either gasoline or electricity. I think the electric appliance I'd have the hardest time giving up is the refrigerator. But it sounds like these days the goal is not so much to reject electricity per se, but to be "off the grid" and independent of the rest of society, and they are ok with creating it themselves via generators, solar panels, etc. Is that correct?

I read many Christian books so when searching for books to read I came across your books which I love. I’m not Amish yet your books are fascinating, interesting, the way of Amish life, family, style of life. I love the down to earth way you write, sharing feelings we all feel. Thank you, thank God for your wonderful talent which I’m sure touch many lives. Thank you.

This is so cool. Love seeing all the older artifacts and treasures. You are doing what many Americans want to do, which is living off the grid. Thank you!
