I don’t know if I’ve ever heard a racer that’s more grounded than this guy. To be considered the greatest and still be so humble or maybe humble isn’t the best word. Maybe it’s greatful. It’s truly amazing. It’s refreshing to see. Thanks Ricky for being such a great racer but even more to be so grounded and amazing. You’re a true person to have kids look up to.

Agree 100%. I remember seeing him when he was a little boy at Loretta Lyns on what I think was a 60cc. He was one of the only guys clearing this gigantic double jump, which was about 60 ft or so. He was so fast as a little boy he would give the whole field a big head start and just start passing all of them. He was destined to be champ from my memory. Glad he acts lie one too!

Switching to the Suzuki without even riding the bike is wild... but that 4.7 annually spoke volumes lol... with more freedom as well! Everyone is taking that deal!
@hawks2252

without riding the bike it is crazy especially for someone with multiple championships, etc. I heard on another podcast Suzuki also offered him full support for whatever he needed (new/different parts asap, full engineering dedicated to him, change of parts if needed - no problem, etc. Honda wouldn't do that. Honda was still living in the 80's because their 80's bikes (most) were so good that they were like - if you can't win on this bike it's your fault, while Suzuki would do whatever it took to get him the bike that he wanted .

@ its amazing that a bike makes that big of a difference for these guys. long time ago when I raced - mid pack B/A class, it didn't matter the bike, (heck, someone would borrow ya a bike for the second moto if yours in moto 1 broke or whatever) I couldn't come close to riding the limit of what a stock production bike could offer. but man was it fun to race.

Yes it was a serious leap of faith. And only a couple years after MCs not so stellar switch to suzuki for 97. But it worked out great, to this day, my 05 rm250 is the best handling bike I've ever built for mx. Period. I've raced over 50 different bikes over 24 years, and my built 05 rm250 was the bike I did best/felt best on. I actually plan to build one to race non-current class this year. Only improvement suzuki had to make to the bike was a beefier clutch. Otherwise RC loved it as is.

@crazychad2720 i am a old fossil, my 1st rm was 76, then 78.5 then 83 and 02 rm250. All 250's , i also had a 82 125 rm about 2015 . My 02 is my best bike ever. After putting a 9 Oz flywheel weight on it I could finally get one with the bike. I actually got 1st overall at Unadilla 50 +, in 2019 rewind against 24 guys. That was my only trip to Unadilla ever, 970 miles. AMAZING TRACK

RC is a real King for his nobility : he never took the bonuses because he wanted that money to be used to raise his team's salary.Tom Brady did earn low salary compared to his status for most of his carrer because he wanted his teammates to earn more money, Michael Jordan did the same during most of his career (even gave all his salary to the 9/11 victims during his Washigton WIzards years). The GOATs are really the greatest team players.

Ricky was worth everything and more, he still has a passion for motocross and the work ethic. but now it’s just off the bike. When Smith won Supercross this weekend, you can hear Ricky‘s voice being totally professional throughout the brands of bikes, but you can also hear his full on excitement for triumph and for Smith winning. Find a chance to work for Triumph, even if it’s just taking the trash out and cleaning the bathroom in the race rigs, it would be worth it. Because I believe RC4 isn’t just there for the money, he has to believe in the product and staff first, that to me would be a great place to be at. Plus the benefits at each race, I get to watch history being made on the track.

Honda flat out insulted Ricky with the updated contract. Most dominant rider ever and they thought he would take a demotion because of an ACL? Why does Honda always find the best talent and then find ways to screw them over with pay cuts, restrictions, licensing BS, forcing them to use equipment that doesn't work for them, etc? RC certainly got the last laugh, switching teams and immediately throwing down another perfect season. I have a feeling the same will happen with the Lawrence bros, eventually they will grow tired of Honda management and prosper elsewhere.

@@jjmoto65 They certainly did. I have no idea why Honda is still considered the most desirable team.

I love Honda products. I own 2 Honda vehicles. But I've always hated Honda factory team souly for how they treat their riders. They screw all of them. They did it to McGrath. They did it to Carmichael. They did it to Roczen. And mark my words. They'll do it to Hunter and Jet too. It's only a matter of time. They do their riders dirty.

Marty Smith in late 70's they dropped him, he had been there over 5 years

@DuaneWilson-ro1pn I didn't even touch the tip of that iceberg on the list of riders they've done dirty. HRC has done every rider that's ever signed to them like that. Unless they retired while they were still on top like Jeff Stanton. He had to retire at 26 to keep from getting screwed.

Way bigger scales if you want money i find. Numismatic buys auction lots. 3rd party graders deny the time for recognition to prevent complete knowledge of how or correlation to produce reality or reality Generation. RG3 played for who?😂
